Yeah, I get it. No quality players were available. But my point is that nobody could look into the future and say players like Bregman were going to struggle. Looking at some stats may have given a hint but...you just never know. With the way this lineup struggled during our 2025 collapse, it made sense to try to improve our hitting. What did we get? Pitching ...Valdez, JV and Jansen. All pitchers who have really struggled and literally cost us games.

Maybe front office’s job is to properly analyze and predict declines in players.

Also, the pitchers you mentioned all signed for 3 years or less.  I’d imagine we’d have had interest in Bregman if he was willing to sign for 3 years.

Only signing for 3 years or less is fine. Its more about our payroll being on the edge of this years luxury tax that would hurt our draft if we go over. That doesnt allow us to add any salary at the deadline. But yeah, whatever. It is what it is. As people pointed out, some of the biggest named free agents have all struggled anyway. I guess Harris really couldn't improve our lineup.

"yeah but he didn't know he would be that good"

The logic I see is Harris is bad because he didn't get specific players even though those players didn't perform that well because there's no way he would have known that.  The job performance is based strictly on the players themselves and not the performance of the players not acquired or those who were kept or promoted.  It's all about players NOT on the team.

Tigers record with Rod Allen: 13-2 .867

Here's the best one - Tigers record with Duane Singleton in the line-up 0-18.

I see you, Lee.  I see you.

Go is 27 years old, has never pitched in the majors and has been dropped by two other organizations.  I don't think we'll miss him.

It’s gonna take a decade to get over this loss.

Any chance the Tigers trade Mize or Torres and keep Skubal? I don't see any scenario where that happens but just curious if anyone does......

I could see Flaherty, Jansen & Baez to the Twins for Go.

Send them $14 million to cover the three remaining salaries and you got a deal!

The missing piece in determining whether we sell or buy is the return or cost. Without knowing that is like buying a house not knowing the price or location. It's everything.

💯

If Harris ends up not making a trade of Skubal or Mize at this deadline, what do you think will be the split between people who believe "Harris is too scared/stupid/apathetic/inexperienced/etc. to make a trade" versus "Harris simply couldn't get the right level of return to make it worth it"? I have my idea, what's yours?

Sorry that's all I could come up with off the top of my list...... None of those guys will be any part of the team going forward.

It is very likely the bold guys had similar clauses that forced their call-up, and they were pitching better in Toledo than the two guys traded this week were.

As mentioned, many of those guys are on the 60-Day IL, which means they don't count against the 40-man roster. It also means they can't be outrighted off the roster, because they are injured.

Additionally, if you are adding a pitcher to the roster, you need to replace him with a pitcher, so that strikes any position player on the active roster.

I think one bat in CF and a few new RPs is what is needed.  I can see the cost for CF being too much.  RP is a fickle market.  And nobody knows what the market is going to be.  Sure, there are lots of AL teams in contention right now.  But will there be a hectic market with this teams being actively negotiating amongst the other non AL WC teams?  Or are teams going to think about going onward as currently constructed?

And this assumes the Tigers can gain a few games/spots in the standings between now and then.  It remains to be seen if that will occur.

We'll eventually hear the deals offered, I think the return will be there.   Question is how willing he is to gamble.

I don't know that we will. What Harris tells the fans is not necessarily what was actually was offered.  And I certainly don't trust trust the media.

By rule or by custom?
