Pipeline has Mayfield at #2 in the Padres system, and so does FanGraphs, but out of the Top 100 on both. It's a steep drop-off in the Padres system from Salas to Mayfield, who's due in 2028.

Wolf is a starter who's getting knocked around pretty good in El Paso. He'll probably get a look this year, but I wouldn't expect much.

This may be better than a sandwich comp pick would have been, but not by a mile.

Also, I'm guessing this ends the Casey Mize in Detroit chapter for good. I wonder whether there's something more off the filed that kind of nudged this along, something related to the history between Casey and the team.

That's what I meant by "heavy lifting", meaning, the word "probably" is doing some work here.

I would have liked to keep Casey, too, but maybe we'll be doing backflips having Kash on the team. Won't know that until at least 2029, I'd guess.

I wouldn't say I'm discouraged, exactly, but this definitely puts more pressure on the offense to keep bludgeoning the other teams, and that makes me a little nervous.

If this team had even a half decent bullpen, this season would be quite a bit different. But they probably would still have traded Skubal.

Probably but he is doing well in High A this year so maybe 2028 ?  In total we have added five pitchers to our system that will be here in 2027.

This definitely appears better than a comp pick, but I’m disappointed as I’m not sure it’s better than a comp pick and having Casey in the playoff chase/playoffs.  
 

I think Kash is very intriguing and is 2 years ahead of a draft pick.  But only Ryan potentially helps us significantly this year.  And we are still very much in it.

I can't say I am excited about what happened the past few days.  I might change my mind on that in a few years.

The Tigers were tied for the best record in the AL at last year's deadline, with a healthy division lead. But Harris didn't do much to try to make the team better, I guess because the Tigers were good enough and the playoffs were safe.  The Tigers are 2.5 games out of of a playoff spot this season and 5.5 games behind the division lead, but Harris didn't do anything to make this year's team better, instead made it worse, because the Tigers apparently had no chance. So I guess the Tigers will never be active in improving at the trade deadline unless they are in that narrow window of no more than 2 games up on a playoff spot and no more than 2 games behind a playoff spot. Good to know.

I really, really, REALLY can't believe they didn't do squat for the bullpen. I guess Harris's view is if lightning strikes and all the planets align and harmonic convergence is achieved, the Tigers get to the off season, but he's not putting' his thumb on the scale.
