I’d very much like to get Hurter back to replace Sommers and Finnegan out of any leverage roles.  Hopefully Ryan can come in and fill that role

The run in that inning was definitely not Finnegan’s fault. He was very good. He’ll get another leverage situation sometime this week.

Minnesota loses. Cleveland loses. Texas loses. And bonus, Red Sox lose. Tigers now all alone in second place, and only one game out of a playoff spot.

Great day to be a Tigers fan.

Remember "so many teams the Tigers have to pass" to make the playoffs or win the division? They are now 2nd in the Central and are right behind Texas only for the 3rd wildcard spot. Of the 24 MLB teams that aren't in 1st place in their division, only Texas (1.0 behind Houston) is closer to a division lead than the Tigers (3.5 behind Chicago).

And we are making up the gap despite trading Skubal

Looking at the standings....if the Tigers can somehow win the division, it wouldn't take much to get the wildcard round at home. Houston leads the west at 2 games over .500. Of course, i want no part of Boston...lol

Boston is peaking early though. No way they keep up this pace

I'll be honest, I was worried about having four teams ahead of us despite being within 4-ish games of the WC, and they passed all of them a lot faster than I though possible. Now, they have to keep them all behind them, but I sure like the look of things way more than I did two weeks ago.

I chuckle when a team wins a championship and the players will exclaim that "no one believed in us, they said it couldn't be done, so we came together as a team". Heck, I think the Dodgers even said that. But if the Tigers make a playoff run this year, they'll have a genuine case for saying that. As even Harris used his lack of belief as reason to be a seller at the deadline.

Finegan was fine, but so was Sommers.

The return home is going to be the big mental test. They've been able to play loose against non-division teams with most of the world having written them off. Now you get home and it's all suddenly all really in reach. This is where they either start playing tight and it gets away, or they turn into a really mentally though team.

Sort of like the '84 team peaked early at 35-5?

No, more like how the Brewers were as torrid this time last year but didn’t make the World Series.

I view this as a reversion win...The opponent doesn't matter. In the 7th or 8th, Finnegan and/or Sommers blows the game if it's in June. They didnt' necessarily pitch well.  Jansen was better and Holton regained form.

Big test against the low event kings this week.

What a wild ride these guys have taken us on the last few years.

You know what…..it’s been super fun and super frustrating, but at least it’s all been emotional.  Nothings worse than being apathetic about your team because there isn’t anything to be excited about or talk to fellow fans about.

I really don't care at all about apathy.

We could talk about our future outfield of Christin Stewart, Jacoby Jones and Nick Castellanos.

I for one never lost hope because the slide occurred with the injuries.  And having experiencing what we saw in '24 and '25 with the Tiger and other teams I knew things can rapidly change.  There's no need to concede the playoffs to 3 or 4 other teams when are, at best, just a few games over .500.  This is not a team like those in the 2010's that were over the hill with bloated contracts that had to rebuild.  This team has the future on its roster.  Go for it...
