Motor City Sonics Posted January 31 Posted January 31 (edited) Why do I feel lousy every weekend? Because I don't HAVE to go to work? I love my job. I really really do. I look forward to doing it. I look forward to going into work. Now, if there is a snowstorm, I have the work at home option, sure, but I like going to work. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. The only real gripe I have about it is the distance. It's about 25 miles each way. Might not be much for you, but I wish I lived closer (but the house I am in is paid for, and even if I sold it, I'm not coming close to buying a house in Washtenaw County). But this is the third straight weekend that I have felt sick and lethargic. I know it might have to do with it being 11 degrees outside and I haven't been able to do a lot. I could try the Dearborn gym, but still having mild vertigo from the ear thing. I think it's because I don't have to get any work done and my body is punishing me for it. I am way, way ahead on things too. I bet if it was 40 and Sunny I'd be alright. Just imagine how good that day is gonna feel now. Accuweather doesn't have us getting above freezing until February 26th. Maybe I should take a weed gummy and watch some Brady Bunch reruns. It never rained once on that show. Not once. It rained on The Partridge Family. They got stuck on the road because of rain washing out a bridge or something - so they lived in a motel for several days and drove each other crazy. Might have been the first time Danny Bonaduce brought a prostitute to a motel. Wouldn't be the last. Here we go https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0798182/ Edited January 31 by Motor City Sonics 1 Quote
oblong Posted February 1 Posted February 1 It’s seasonal depression. We’ve not been above freezing in 2 weeks and no relief in sight. It’s snowed 19 straight days. The last few weekends I decided to make soup on either Saturday or Sunday to fill my time. Twice we’ve driven to twelve oaks mall just to move around and walk and be around peoole. I’ve been a member of our rec center for 20+ years. It was on this day 14 years ago I began going consistently. I would walk the track and listen to this relatively new thing called podcasts. Try a yoga class. The instructor is awesome. Quote
LaceyLou Posted February 1 Posted February 1 And 25 miles of commuting is actually not short (especially in my neck of the woods, don't know about yours). I remember when my SIL found a job with a commute of 5 minutes instead of 40... her health and mood improved significantly. Quote

That's what I keep telling myself, its only been two weekends and yesterday's "event" was a nothing burger (not complaining). It's cold today and i'm sitting here at the CW Visitor Center playing on the internet. Last week's ice was maddening, we don't have the proper tools to break up ice about 3/4 of an inch thick, along with snow sheets. Temps will be above freezing this week. the past week was a reminder why we left...(or one of the reasons) Quote

The reason we're given for roads being the main focus is so emergency vehicles can get through, but isn't it also pretty important for them to be able to get to the buildings where the emergencies are? Also this is New England. While this amount of snow isn't so common in Boston, shouldn't we be able to deal with it better? Quote

They really help with seasonal depression and when you trick your brain into seeing “sunlight” it also helps with your sleep. 1 Quote

Is it getting any better since the last time you checked in? A little. I get a sensation deep in the ear if the sound is loud and bassy enough. I am done with the steroid drops. Hearing test on Thursday to see if it really made a difference. I am trying a chiropractor next. I've done a little research and some people who gave up on having their hearing restored for years got some or most of it back with just a few adjustments. Wouldn't that be a gas. This is costing me a small fortune. Been getting strange tones in my left ear all day, like test tones. My brain is looking for a signal. Hey, if an expert told me to swallow capsules of ground powdered rat turds and I'd be guaranteed to get my hearing back, I'd do it. I'd just have to make sure I always had sour candy on hand to mask the rat turd burps. I bought weed gummies for sleep on Thursday because I had been getting up every hour (nature's call). I might be having that lethargic post-gummy thing too. Like how you feel the day after taking NyQuil. So tonight, no weed/sleep gummies, just melatonin and hopefully a real sleep, but I know I will feel better tomorrow because I will need to get up and go to work and, as I said, I love my job and I am motivated. I've been inside so much the last 3 or 4 weeks that I feel like I am WAY WAY ahead of schedule on my duties. I do a lot. I'm not saying my job is physically demanding in any way, shape or form, but I juggle a lot of day-to-day things. I do two daily on-air shifts for two radio stations, I program the music for one, I write, produce and schedule the promos, music news, out and about segments, I handle all ticket requests. Busy guy. I freaking love it. 1 Quote
oblong Posted February 2 Posted February 2 If it's any consolation that animal is only about 38% accurate. 1 Quote
CMRivdogs Posted February 2 Posted February 2 About as accurate as our forecasts have been several days out. (said with tongue in cheek) Quote
LaceyLou Posted February 2 Posted February 2 So I'm set to go back to work on Wednesday. I haven't even gone back, and am already being asked to take extra shifts. Good to see that some things never change. 😉 Quote

oblong Posted Wednesday at 12:28 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:28 PM generic ID mailboxes by suppliers so that "everyone can see it and it gets channeled to a central location for support". Which just means everybody ignores because they thought someone else was going to do it. Get to have that conversation today with someone. Last year they were gung ho about introducing it to "streamline" for a particular process. Quote

IdahoBert Posted Wednesday at 07:57 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:57 PM In Idaho, where I live, we have not really experienced winter. It’s been about 10 to 15° above normal all winter and we’ve had one half inch snowfall and that’s it. The grass has never turned brown this year. It’s weird. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted Friday at 07:51 PM Posted Friday at 07:51 PM Left ear has gone from only detecting 100khz to 90 to 85 in a month. So progress, but very slow I may end up getting a bionic ear at some point. 1 1 Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted Saturday at 01:04 PM Posted Saturday at 01:04 PM (edited) I had stopped the steroid (Dexamethasone) drops in my ear the Wednesday before last when I ran out and saw that improvement on Thursday when I did the hearing test. They gave me another 10-day supply and I re-started Thursday and then last night and this morning I am getting a fair amount of fuzzy hearing in the left ear. So much so it's actually a little distracting while listening to music and I kind of need to plug my ear a bit because I have a show to put together for Sunday evening. This is the most significant hearing I've had since 12/26. Not really functional, but it's there. Going to a chiropractor next week. I have read about dozens of cases where issues like mine were greatly or completely resolved with a few adjustments. Still don't know exactly what caused all this. Some sort of virus is the thoerry - since the steroids seem to be making a difference, unless my healing is just natural and the steroids are doing a placebo thing. Hey, whatever it is - just keep it going. If I make the progress I had in the last week I feel I could be hearing somewhat normally by Mid March. I certainly hope so because the Lemon Twigs are coming to the Blind Pig on April 27th - and I am NOT missing that. Edited Saturday at 01:04 PM by Motor City Sonics 1 1 Quote

I would guess it was a virus, and the reason the steroids is helping is because it's power against inflammation and congestion. My experience with sinusitis is that it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to fully clear. Anyway, congrats on getting better! Quote
