Different discussion.

Now you're talking about the length of the contract and whether he should be signed.

Mike was not gonna let him walk, nor should he. At that time he was the best player but nobody thought he'd break down in year 1. It was absolutely necessary they extend him two years before free agency instead of one. (Not to mention there were a slew of young players ready to break the bank and that would have created further problems. It's why they extended jv when they did)

I disagree, but it's not worth arguing about it at this point.

does his age worry you?

Maybe a little but what I like about him is his durability.  Anybody can get hurt of course and the incidence and severity of injury might increase with age, but he was fit and acrobatic at 30 and has only missed 10 games in the last 4 years.  As to whether or not he can still play short, I'm not capable of determining that but I haven't seen any expert testimony to say that he can't.

Tiger minor league FAs not much of a surprise. A few familiar names from last year's Mudhens though:

Christin Stewart

Aderlin Rodriguez

Mark Leiter

Hutchinson

Yareil Gonzalez

I don't know either.  I wish there was a place where we could get reliable scouting reports of all players.  That would require a bunch of people independent of MLB who were skilled at scouting and I don't think there are too many people like that.  It couldn't be a free source site because then you'd probably get a lot fans who think they are good at it but really aren't.

Hey you guys Mikie Mahtook is a free agent.

I saw him play this past summer in Charlotte, NC for the White Sox AAA team. He hit a home run and clustered a defensive play in left.

The best value out there is Semien, he is the Gold Glove/Silver Slugger combo who plays 150 games, everybody in the organization loves him, and you get him for way less term and a bit less annual salary.

Semien isn't really a SS right now. I know that Avila's stated measure for the position involves making all the throws. I think he would lean toward SS's with really good arms. Correa and Story fit that bill, and Baez a bit.

from 2018-20, Semien was one of the top defensive SS in baseball; in the one year he played great defense at 2B, he did not forget how to play SS

as others have said, play him 2 years at SS, hopefully someone will move him to 2b when Schoop leaves.

Christin Stewart made roughly $3 million from his time in professional baseball. I hope he saved and invested wisely. Godspeed to him.

Rumors are the Yankees are really trying to get Verlander, of course if I were a Verlander or his agent that's exactly the type of thing I would want to put out there so who knows how true it is but personally I really hope he doesn't end up there.

On a side note, I saw Verlander was trending on twitter so I clicked on it and it led to a bunch of rumors of him and Yankees. While sifting through tweets about it I got to see several from Yankees fans and lets just say their expectations are a lot higher than other teams. I read more than one that said things like "I'll consider it a good offseason if we get Correa, Chris Taylor, Verlander, Stroman and Freeman"  lol most fan bases would be pretty satisfied if their teams got any of those 5 but not the Yankees, damnit they need all of them or they won't be happy.

Regarding Verlander, I guess everyone saw that 15-20 teams watched him throw the other day. For better or worse, I don’t think he’ll be wearing a Tiger uniform next year.

they will circle back to some of those MiL guys, but I assume they are done with Stewart.

Stewart is more talented than 98% of the world, but still not good enough. Baseball is hard.
