2026 Live Draft Thread As It Happens
MichiganCardinal replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Lions
Lots of first round talent still available at Best Need Available (BNA): - Colton Hood, CB, Tennessee - Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee - Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, DB, Toledo - Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri - CJ Allen, LB, Georgia would all be home run picks. If they aren't satisfied with Mahogany, they could even go back-to-back OL with one of: - Jake Slaughter, C, Florida - Chase Bisontis, OT/OG, Texas A&M - Gennings Dunker, OT/OG, Iowa - Emmanuel Pregnon, OG, Oregon - Connor Lew, C, Auburn And then there are plenty of solid 2nd round picks there too, enough to justify moving back if those top five are already gone. - Brandon Cisse, CB, South Carolina - Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson - Treydan Stukes, DB, Arizona - Jalon Kilgore, DB, South Carolina - Gabe Jacas, EDGE, Illinois - TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson - Dani Dennis-Sutton, EDGE, Penn State - Keyron Crawford, EDGE, Auburn - Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Texas Tech - Anthony Hill Jr., LB, Texas - Kyle Louis, LB, Pitt I'd be surprised if Holmes only picks once tonight. Whether that's moving down from #50 and picking up a mid-3rd or sending both #118 and #128 to move back into the 90s, I think he finds a way to pick up a later pick tonight. Some guys that make sense but probably not with our second pick and probably later than #50 might include: - Keith Abney, CB, Arizona State - Malik Muhammad, CB, Texas - Domani Jackson, CB, Alabama - Will Lee III, CB, Texas A&M - Kamari Ramsey, DB, USC - LT Overton, DT/DE, Alabama - Joshua Josephs, EDGE, Tennessee - Anthony Lucas, EDGE, USC - Jalen Farmer, OG, Kentucky - Billy Schrauth, OG, Notre Dame - Anez Cooper, OG, Miami - Drew Shelton, OL, Penn State - Isaiah World, OT, Oregon - Deonte Lawson, LB, Alabama - Nick Singleton, RB, Penn State - Mike Washington, RB, Arkansas - Sam Roush, TE, Stanford - Oscar Delp, TE, Georgia -
I was thinking of starting a thread called "Trump's coming war with everyone" but decided its much easier to continue to talk about what Trump is going to do in 2025. Exclusive: Pentagon email floats suspending Spain from NATO, other steps over Iran rift, source says | Reuters

It would complicate my softball league.

I just saw a post on FB repeating an unnamed Georgia Congressman's claim that maybe Virginia should "give back the Democratic part of Northern Virginia to DC". When did they stop teaching history and government in schools. A Republican Congressman who does not know or understand that Virginia (and Maryland) ceded part of their state(s) to create the District of Columbia. I'm all in favor if said Rep would also allow DC to become a state.

Looks like the image might have been adjusted to make his obvious dozing look worse and then deleted by scrupulous [checks notes] alt-space force.

So it's not really a meaningful data point... -

On the golf course but it appears to be 21 minutes with Duren on and Thompson off. It can be any other player on the roster that isn't Thompson. -
The catcher wears special equipment and there is a narrow rule related to issues arising from this special equipment. What else is there to discuss here? If a pop fly in foul territory falls through the neck hole of the catcher’s jersey it is ruled exactly the same as what we saw here with the pitcher. No need to get all twisted about in play and out of play etc

I just re-watched Tork's walkoff, listening to the Brewer announcers. They sounded depressed...😆 But I didn't notice Uribe throwing 100 MPH. Tork hit a 99 MPH pitch for his HR. Pretty impressive - Today

right - that sort of has to be the case for the rule to work, but you can ask why that should be true when a ball that hits but bounces off a uni is not a dead ball - in that case the uni is considered completely in play. I suppose you can get to the rule by making the logical distinction that the outside surface of uni is in play and the inside surface is not! 🤔

Trump has eight days to make up his mind on Iran Hmmm...now that would be an interesting development.

Pistons lost 60+ games with Cade...is he not elite? -
If you look at what Holmes does in FA, he tries to patch at least enough so his needs don't totally dictate his draft. He tries to keep open the option for taking a player that is really high on his board if he falls to them even if it's not his *number one* need, because he tries not to have a desperate *number one* need by the time FA signings are done. That doesn't mean he's not going to draft for need, just that if there is a BPA head and shoulders above a higher need position, he wants to give himself the option of taking a great talent. That's what signing Borom was - it gave him the option of not taking an OT if it meant passing a player way higher on his board than the best remaining OT. In this case, he didn't need/want to use the option.
-
I think, in the first round, when you are 4-13 you go BPA, with a possible 1-2 postion group exception. When you are 13-4 you go need, narrowed down to 1-2 postion groups. Brad has been in both of those situations and for the most part drafted that way.

good for Tom Tillis

But the ball getting trapped in a uniform has been ruled to be a deadball. If that happened in foul territory, it still would not be an out according to the rule. In the catcher example, if the ball did not get lodged in the mask and instead the catcher just didn't catch the ball on a third strike, the batter would be allowed to run to first. This sounds to me analagous to what happened in Gilbert's case.

The other question is how long does Ausar's extreme athleticism last? Rodman's did for a long time, but it's never a given that a player won't grow or be injured out that athleticism sooner rather than later, and if there is no corresponding increase in skill level to compensate, you have a declining asset. No choices are risk free. -
So he had to fire one of his idiots because he couldn't do something even more idiotic. Perfect symmetry.
-
I would assume that rule assumes the catcher is out of play when the ball gets stuck in his apparatus? There had to be rule of course, but that doesn't mean I have to think it's a good one. It's a much simpler rule book if the batter is just out if the ball hasn't touched the ground. The problem with that is you know it would get abused and pretty soon guys would show up in the field with big bags of fabric around their arms or the like.

Hat tip to Al Karsten. He has been on Blake Miller to the Lions for weeks. Maybe he is more dialed in to Allen Park than Charlie Campbell.

I'm a little surprised Japan is not on the less-than-1% map.

Always a big favorite of mine, although I prefer the actual Nielsen map much more.
