You look at Flaherty's pitch charts and not much jumps out, velo and break on his pitches are all similar to last season, but the pitch value of his FB is way down. The only thing I noticed is that he is throwing the curve less, probably because he's landing it for strikes less, which I suppose reduces the amount of change of speed that batters are seeing. It is the only pitch he throws that gets him to a 10mph delta from his FB.

Simple question for TL: Is playoff Duren worth a max contract? The answer will always be the same.
-
if harden is on harris, there will be a mouse in the house.

Already at $7.09 for premium here in Big Shoulders.
-
speaking of 5' 8", McGonigle's load up is pretty similar (mirror image of course) to Altuve's. He doesn't pick up his front foot quite to the same extreme but overall the step is pretty similar, maybe even a bit longer.
-
Or maybe Flaherty starts pitching rather than throwing?
-
We never know how any particular prospect is going to do in any particular system until we actually see them go there. Certain types of hitters thrive in certain systems and get ruined in others. Focusing on proper development is just as important for an organization as scouting talent. Amateur players are never finished products when they first get drafted or signed.
-
If they manage to hang on and get to the playoffs this season after these pitching losses it should go down as one of the most unlikely seasons ever. The starting staff that won 87 games last season has now had injuries to Jobe, Skubal, Mize, Olson and a potential starter in Melton while adding Valdez and Verlander, with the latter being a non-factor. To that add that Flaherty has been bad. Valdez was a great add but it's still +1 against -5, which isn't good math.
-
Yes, every case is different and it's impossible for us to make a timeline. I am just always pessimistic about pitching injuries. If something can go wrong, it will.

2026 Detroit Lions Offseason Thread

Fun fact, Joseph was drafted with the comp pick the Lions got for Golladay signing with the Giants. - Today

We don't have the $ in CBT Tax space to do it. As @Edman85 has said any more $ without trading away $ will drop the comp pick for Skubal to a 4th rounder (same potentially for Mize) and cost us our competitive balance pick. They aren't taking on any extra $ this year. Every $ in is going to have to have $ going back out with means players on the 40 man.

When success in something means failure 60% of the time, then human nature means its easy to only remember the 60% and not the 40%. That's why you use data and context. -
This one is too easy; if you get a starting x receiver for a late 3rd and two comp picks after the 3rd, that's a huge win. If he bombs, then sure, it's a fail.
-
It's time for Harris to swing a trade for a quality SP, or two. I've seen enough of these AAA arms, they're literally costing up games.
-
Still, it wouldnt surprise me one bit if he was back in 3 weeks or so. Whatever Schilling want thru is meaningless, IMO. I'm not expert but it seems like every case would be different. With millions of dollars on the line, Skubal needs to be as close to 100% before competing again. Again, just an opinion.
-
Harris could be the key to this series. If he is the turd that showed up the first 6 games against Orlando, the Pistons are in trouble. Odds are they are going to cover Harris with Harden to let Mobley play Ausar and roam free to spy on Cade. Harris needs to work Harden if that happens. If he can get them to switch Mobley back to defending him, big win for Detroit as it should free up some more mid-range space for Cade.
-
LOL I bet Trump doesn't even know. Officials have probably been told not to tell him because he'll throw a tantrum. So have they told Vance? Probably, and he probably says "what do you want me to do about it?" Absolute disgrace. And we deserve every bit of it.
-
The Pistons shot 31% on three pointers where there wasn't a defender within 6 feet of the shooter in the Orlando series. That isn't good defense, that is a shoot slump. In the regular season they shot 37% in those situations. A few guys started hitting some threes in game 7. Hopefully that holds up going into this series.

With the amount of money Gores flushed on Monty I would not worry. Must be all pocket change to him.
-
A pitcher trying to bulldog his way back from an elbow injury asking for big trouble. Curt Schilling? Maybe, Skubal can put ketchup on his sock when he gets back. 😀

Break it down any more than two outs with RISP and the sample size gets really small. Thirty years of baseball social media have shown me that fans almost always feel like their team doesn't hit in the clutch. I think it's because hitters fail more often than not in any situation, and fans remember the high leverage failures more vividly. -

A reporter in the Free Press this morning speculated that Ron Holland will be getting important minutes in this Cavs series. -
Sneaky good.
-
I wouldn't. It takes away their one legit three point threat. It also makes Harris try to defend on the perimeter, which won't be pretty. Mobley is more of a finesse big anyway. He won't bully Harris like Banchero did

I was joking that the Pistons would extend JB. Now the Free Press says they did extend him but no details. Prolly 2 years?
