Falling behind hitters forces him to groove fastball and hitters are mostly squaring him up. You're correct, his curve isn't landing for strikes. That makes him very hittable.

Posted this in the minor league thread too... Gabe Alvarez fired in Toledo for violating club policy

They saw enough of Short coming up short last night.

Word on the street is that he called McGonigle Magoo.

Help is coming

Uh-oh

His only path right now seems to be rigging elections

Holton/Madden literally put together 6 innings comparable to what Skubal would have yesterday. Montero has been consistently effective. I agree as it applies to the pen, but the only weak link in the rotation has been Flaherty.

Matt Stafford has made a lot of guys a lot of money.

Huerter is questionable. Cleveland has nobody listed.

Cleveland has some tough matchups on defense. Mitchell pretty much has to be on Robinson. He gives up a lot of height but its not like Robinson will take him down low. Allen will get Duren. They probably start Wade and he gets Cade. Mobley gets Thompson so he can roam. That leaves Harden on Harris. If they do put Mobley on Harris, it's a win for Detroit since it opens more space for Cade because Mobley has to stick to Harris more than he would on Ausar. Either way, Cade should hunt Mitchell constantly. He has 4 inches on Mitchell and can take him mid-range and rise up over him for a jumper anytime he wants.

No good info on how much of the refinery Whiting has back up and running and they still have the employees locked out so management/engineering staff is doing operations. That might mean no maintenance is being done because even if the engineers know how to operate the plant, they don't have the skills to fix stuff that breaks, not to mention no engineering work is getting done. They are probably also double shifted so the question is how long they go before they start making mistakes. OTOH, they might already have a non-union maintenance staff. Not uncommon for operators to have gotten operations and maintenance split into union/non-union.

I've been surprised at how lackluster the Royals have been this year, so far. Cleveland is being Cleveland, but no one is running away with this division. If we stay near .500 and get a few of Mize, Melton, Verlander and Skubal back to competitive+ form by August 1, we should be in a good position to win the division. At least that's what I hope . . . we'll see.

The Trump Bunker/Crypt is getting is costing us taxpayers more and more.

You look at Flaherty's pitch charts and not much jumps out, velo and break on his pitches are all similar to last season, but the pitch value of his FB is way down. The only thing I noticed is that he is throwing the curve less, probably because he's landing it for strikes less, which I suppose reduces the amount of change of speed that batters are seeing. It is the only pitch he throws that gets him to a 10mph delta from his FB. Without good change of speed life is gonna be harder.

Simple question for TL: Is playoff Duren worth a max contract? The answer will always be the same.

if harden is on harris, there will be a mouse in the house.

Already at $7.09 for premium here in Big Shoulders.

speaking of 5' 8", McGonigle's load up is pretty similar (mirror image of course) to Altuve's. He doesn't pick up his front foot quite to the same extreme but overall the step is pretty similar, maybe even a bit longer.

Or maybe Flaherty starts pitching rather than throwing?
