  3. Any stat that shows Burch Smith as your best BP arm is flawed. Or just cherry picked.
  4. Melton is close to starting a rehab assignment
  5. Unfortunately, if looks as if this team is not going to do anything this season unless a couple of pluses do appear.
  6. the natural consequence of the overall lack of talent on the team.
  7. given that the lions traded up in round 2, getting rid of a 4th rounder to do so, and then chose not to trade up into round 3, i wonder if that means they dont think too highly of this draft class? or that there's little difference left between levels of prospects? we'll see if they trade future capital today to get someone.
  8. on the red wings' prospects' penchants for sophomore slumps: its much more prevalent here than elsewhere in the league: "Now, this is peculiar. The median data fails to capture the Sophomore slump, implying that while this phenomenon seems fairly common among Red Wings’ young stars, it is not so for the leagues’ sophomores as a whole. This implies that there are environmental factors at play potentially more important than other teams finally having detailed pro-scouting or the mental weight of newfound expectations. For example, in the case of Moritz Seider, as soon as he demonstrated what he was capable of in his rookie campaign he was thrown off the deep end in the following season, logging some of the hardest minutes in the NHL at the young age of 21. This, of course, could potentially help to explain Kasper’s season - he was written in as the second line center at the beginning of the campaign, a position he clearly wasn’t ready for full time (despite rather positive underlying numbers for the first month). The subsequent loss of confidence and line juggling that he dealt with throughout the 2025-2026 season cannot have helped."
  9. https://open.substack.com/pub/mystaes/p/drafting-and-development-in-the-modern?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=7ecc7 great read on the red wings' prospects woes. doesnt leave yzerman blameless, but does note late-kenny's extreme failings. "At last we come to it. The root of the Red Wings’ drafting and development hell. The reason that for seemingly a decade Red Wings fans have pointed to their prospects as a sign that things would turn around, only to be left disappointed. 2013 was a banner year for Detroit, where they found several impactful players that many will be familiar: Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Matthias-Janmark (even if he was traded before ever playing for the wings). What followed, however, was a half-decade of drafting darkness from which the Red Wings have still not emerged. It is my hope, not only to convey the scale of this disaster, but that others will use it as a precautionary tale: if you are about to enter a rebuild, you need to have your scouting and development system in order. Just as the Red Wings were beginning to falter at the NHL level, they entered a period of five years where the only notable NHL players that they managed to draft and develop were Dylan Larkin, and Filip Hronek - impactful and useful NHL players to be sure, but not enough to mitigate the missed opportunities elsewhere. During this 2014-2018 period, the Red Wings would under-perform the value expected of draft picks by a cumulative 5 average WAR per season. The 2017 and 2018 draft classes - in which the Wings walked away with Michael Rasmussen, Filip Zadina, and Joe Veleno - are particularly painful for Detroit Red Wings fans."

  12. Having been on the other side prior to the proliferation of AI, it's all part of the script. Since the vast majority of these CS folks make about as much as fast food workers (without smelling like french fries and Jamoca shakes) it's basically required at most companies. If they have the information on their computer screen, there is still the requirement to verify informqtion. A bit like going to the doctor for a series of tests and every person you run into will ask you to verify your date of birth.
  13. I’m not counting on Melton or Jobe this season. Anything we get is a plus.
  14. Not to mention he’s lost thousands of dollars on betting the last few years. I only visit the site nowadays for Charlie Campbell. If he broke off into his own site I’d jump ship in a heartbeat.
  15. The Lions have a 4th so I doubt they trade for a second 4th.
  16. Michigan didnt play moore a lot because of their stupid rotations last year. he might develop into a better pass rusher. but the lions seem to want that pocket crusher, edge setter, run stuffer DE. which is why i thought they would want zion young, but moore could probably be that guy too. hate to give up the 4th, but if its a guy they really wanted...ah well. does brad trade next year's 3rd for a 4th this year?
  17. that and the constant maga stuff. charlie is still a decent read.
  18. It strikes me that Walter's mind probably works a lot like his website. Lots of annoying popups that keep getting in the way of conveying a useful thought.
  19. I think we have some financial constraints that are going to keep us from being buyers so we don’t lose out on draft picks. Getting Verlander, which hopefully can be a starter moves Flaherty or Monterro to the pen and that’ll help. Also Melton and Jobe being able to help out of the pen or as starters late this year will help with quality arms. With that said we are a couple arm injuries that will inevitably happen from disaster right now on the pitching side.
  20. This is probably a .500 team with our bullpen. I don’t see any help coming from within and teams don’t usually give up any players of worth prior to July. Even then, we’d need to add 2-3 arms to be competitive. Our saving grace is that we play in the AL Central and should be able to hang around most of the season.
  21. The control issue was quite a surprise. All the Tiger pitchers seemed to keep falling behind hitters. Falling behind hitters is a recipe for disaster.
  22. i dont trust any draft experts. the one i trust the LEAST is probably walterfootball.
  23. "What kind of a loser just sits there watching round and round ...". "It's like going to a graduation when you don't know anyone graduating".
  24. And CBS Sports gives Detroit an A- for Moore but Baltimore gets a C+ for Zion Young who "is more of a run-stopper than a pass rusher." And Zierlein says Young "has the power to bull rush or drive through edges, but lacks instincts and variety in his rush approach. His NFL pressure production will lag behind without better go-to moves and counters. Young’s physical tools and rugged demeanor give him a chance to be an instant run-stopping upgrade with average rush." But Moore "is a bull-rush aficionado, piling up pressures and sacks. He’s strong through the top of the rush but needs to prove he can consistently stress long, well-anchored tackles. When it’s time to finish, he tackles with reliable technique and timing. If Moore cranks up the fire on all three downs, he can become a good full-time player. Either way, he projects as a starter capable of racking up pressures." Doesn't seem like a stretch that Brad and Dan would like Moore as a player.
