It's not just Hinch though. I still think they are sacrificing reliable defense for flexibility by moving players around so much, but it's the way the game is played today.

I think Clark is not ready based on what we've been hearing from Harris. Harris said the same thing about McGonigle over the winter, but this is more recent. Cruz would be the logical choice if healthy, but he's still out. It will probably be Workman. They really need someone who can cover both CF/SS. If Baez is out for a long time, we might miss him more than we think.

I'm not sure this analysis is complete. Creating minority districts generally favor the GOP overall because it concentrates higher numbers of Dem voters into fewer winnable districts - IOW exactly what GOP gerrymanders try to do. Spreading out Black votes could actually create more swingable districts. In any case the outcome is going to be more complicated than this byline implies. It will certainly hit minority representation, but that's not the same thing as hurting the Dem party.

When we began downsizing, I got rid of burdensome things like lawn mower and snow blower. The yard we have now could easily be done with a rotary mower, I still have a weed wacker and snow shovel. The snow stuff did little good this past season as our two bad weekends were mostly ice. Will occasionally use the trimmer to clean up after the sub's lawn crew. My dad was in the lawn service business long before it became somewhat profitable (has it ever been?) Getting drug outs of bed at 5 AM is no way inspire a 14 year old to go into the business.

Never mind this nonsense, what about Trump grabbing Melania's ass!

It's probably less a matter of whether he could than that Hinch is loath to be without his Swiss Army knife roster.

I think CF is Vierling and Perez until Baez is back. If you bring up Clark, you are committing to him for the rest of the season, barring him giving the team a reason to demote him. -

Today is that day that all of us (even if we don't want to admit it) go in our heads, "Well, if they win the home games, game six is the only huge hurdle." 🙂 Why does my mind do this every single time when this scenario comes up? The Pistons have won three straight games how many times this season? Plenty. The playoffs are a different monster though. But Orlando is without a big piece for at least tonight (probably). Any team can suddenly hit 45% from behind the arc - even the Pistons. It all starts with one game, and probably one quarter. The Pistons can't be down 8 to 12 points anytime quickly in this game. Mentally, that would be a tough pill to swallow, even for pros. -

I saw that yesterday and couldn’t find details of how the play-in round would work. If it just means eight more bubble teams get in, and they have to play against the other 8 at large teams that were on the 9-11 seed line, then whatever. Even better, get rid of the play-in round for those two 16 seed spots. 76 teams. 24 at-large in the play-in. 52 byes. 13 seed lines with a bye. Three seed lines for bubble teams needing a play-in round. Protect seeds 1-8 and 12-16, with seeds 9-11 being the play-in teams. Seeds 12-16 can simply go to the 20 lowest ranked auto-bids. The at-large vs AQ line usually falls right at 11/12 line.

Vierling too! -
That's what I thought at first but they might be loathe to bring up Max if he's not good and ready, and indications are he is not quite yet. We've also been working Workman in center for the first time in his career. Not sure how he's doing, but it seems like the next logical step to give him a shot.

Not in good shape in CF if Workman, Perez, and McKinstry are our options. -

I can see why since any significant injury could spell the end of a career. For established players it could be a loss of effectiveness that noticeably brings their performance down a notch, cost them future innings or games, or even earnings. For guys on the way up, it could be the death knell of their career at that moment since they are so replaceable. -
Buddy Bell did it in 2005, and the Tiger were not either team. He managed the Indians for one game against the A's when Eric Wedge was excused for a "significant personal family issue". Reference doesn't count it, but Retrosheet and Lahman do. Buddy went to the Royals later that year. Tony La Russa managed the White Sox for a couple of months in 1986 and then took over the A’s for the last couple of months.
