  1. So, $65 billion for high-speed broadband. Because if there's anything that can fix what's ailing America right now, it's giving more people more access to more Internet.

  2. It's sad when you're supposed to be a great negotiator and deal maker and you shit the bed and got nothing done. Good thing there is a lot of cleanup money in this bill, because there is a lot of shit to clean up.

  6. I don't think Joe's mental acuity is as debilitated as Trump's, not by a long shot. But I'm not sure I want nearly-82-year-old Joe to be my main alternative to Rump in 2024.

  9. Agreed. If we spend big on a SS and Kriedler ends up being a legit prospect well then we just got another asset to work with whether it be as a trade chip or possibly a move to 2b. On the other hand if we pass on the SS class this year and put our faith in Kriedler we are back to square one if/when he flames out.

  12. It would behoove Biden to show up at Kellogg's and John Deere and be on the picket line. That's one thing a guy like Bernie understands. When Verizon workers were on strike in 2016 in NYC Bernie went out of his way, showed up, stood on a soap box and gave a ra-ra speech to the Verizon union workers. He did the same thing that year in Iowa for a company during the Caucuses. Biden needs to be out in front of the cameras, in the heart of white working class America, showing solidarity with these workers. Optics go a long way.

  14. People mock Beto mercilessly for a variety of reasons, but I still think one of the better things he did when he ran for Senate in Texas in 2018 was visiting all 254 counties multiple times. You can question the fruits of his labor, obviously (ie. he didn't change a ton of votes doing it), but he also didn't lose ground in rural Texas either versus previous elections. As we saw in Virginia this week, just because a county is red doesn't mean it isn't valuble; mitigating losses in red counties can mean just as much as squeezing a few extra votes out of a big blue county. It's kinda late in the game, but it feels like that lesson is starting to be realized by at least a few more folks after how Tuesday went down. Either way, I get that elected pols have jobs that keep them in Washington a lot of the year, but I would suggest that *every* Democratic candidate (incumbent or not) should make it a point to visit every county in their state or their district.... if you are running for rep (ie. not statewide), probably need to visit every community in the district multiple times. Understand their concerns, understand the differences between voters in different parts of the state or the district. It would be unfair to say that all Dems don't get this (I know there are some in elected office who are really good about visiting all corners of their constituency, such as Sherrod Brown or Tammy Baldwin), and obviously national environment plays a big factor as well. (ie. some of the erosion is simply because Biden is 10-12 points underwater; if, in 6-8 months, he's at 50% nationally and not 42%, Dems will likely do better to some degree in rural areas than TMac/Murphy did). But the races that TMac and Phil Murphy ran... well, frankly, they did run poor campaigns that were more tailored to the base. And that's not good enough.

  15. It's optical, but this has been one of the biggest missed opportunities by the administration so far.... to the extent that Biden had strengths on the campaign trail, it was in smaller, town-hall type settings where he can get voters one on one, and largely they aren't doing that stuff right now. I think COVID is part of it, but that excuse needs to sort of recede along with this latest Delta wave. He needs to be out in front of the public more. Eric's point about being out with striking workers is a good kind of opportunity, but I think the political people around him don't get it.

  18. Just a question here. Who is better. Javier Baez or Zack Short/Niko Goodrum/Isaac Paredes/Willi Castro/Harold Castro ? Javy might not be a first choice of many here, but he is FAR superior to anything the Tigers can cobble together.

  19. You can't have nuance with people who barely have high school education and refuse and reject any notion of learning or intellectual stimulation. You also can't have nuance with 70 year old people like my dad whose racism and intolerance have been ingrained in him/them for 55-60+ years. Nuance escapes people like that and some of them just don't have the intellectual heft to think critically or move beyond bumper sticker politics and slogans designed to make them angry and afraid. What Democrats need to do is frame social issues back to economics, quality of life, and safety and security of the general public. Win people over with bread and butter values about making a fair economy, rewarding hard work with good-wages and an equitable tax code, keeping people safe while ensuring the system of justice is equitable, etc. A melding together of both the Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders approaches to politics. The focus on values over specific ideas of Obama, the working-class zeal of a Joe Biden, and the Democrats will always be on your side kind of toughness and fight of a Bernie Sanders. You get the hopeful, optimistic nature of an Obama and Biden blended with the willingness to fightback when you're kicked and tenacity of a Bernie Sanders. There will always be a block of people wo will continue to watch Fox and OAN or read Brietbart and never go along. Let them do what they are going to do and win everyone else in the middle or anyone capable of any level of introspection or critical thought back over.

  20. What's the solution with CRT? Just not talk about race anymore? Pretend our history until the 1960's didn't happen with regard to how we treated black people? Because that's what they want us to do. Act like slaves enjoyed working for their master and that things were separate but equal and thats the way it's supposed to be because Bible.

  23. If I'm Joe Biden, I'm going on a month-long tour touting my infrastructure bill and I'm only visiting working class and urban communities to hype it up. I'm going straight into the heart of white working-class America to sell that this program will put people go with with good-paying jobs, while making vital improvements to our infrastructure in each local community I visit. I'd also hammer home the fact that the great negotiator Trump and Congressional Republicans failed time after time to get a deal done on infrastructure. From a metro Detroit perspective, think communities like Allen Park, Clawson, Dearborn, Detroit, Macomb Township, Roseville, Taylor, Sterling Heights, Warren, Westland, Woodhaven. Those are the types of communities I'd send him to. I'd focus on these 7 or so states for my infrastructure world tour: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. The gloves need to come off though and Biden and the Democrats need to hammer both their success and Republican/Trump's repeated failures to get a deal done on infrastructure. When you put Democrats in charge, this is the kind of progress you get. Hell, bring Obama back out and let him help sell it too.

  24. Assuming Jersey widens out to be around 4 points when the final votes are cast, you are looking at roughly the same gap between Biden's performance and national approval in both NJ and VA. I dont think there's much that isn't concerning about what happened on Tuesday. I just think it's largely a reflection of what the national polling average has been telling us for the past few weeks now.

  25. I'm not sure there is much to make of it. State elections are weird. Massachusetts, Maryland, and Vermont have Republican governors while Louisiana, Kansas and Kentucky have Democratic governors. Montana recently went 16 straight years with a Democratic governor. Democrats did well in California and the New Mexico special election so who knows.

  31. Speaking of cracks, Joe Biden's going to be repairing them in the roads and bridges with his shiny new bipartisan infrastructure bill. Joe's certainly got more done than the hot air that was always leaking out of your boys mouth about infrastructure weeks during his 4 years. Maybe Biden put some money in the bipartisan bill to fix the leaks.

  32. I have only watched 5 quarters of Cade but what has impressed me is that he just looks like a seasoned vet out there. Just the poise and confidence he exudes makes you believe that he belongs. Like last year Killian pre injury just looked like this nervous rookie that shouldnt be out there, I don't get those vibes from Cade. He doesn't have that deer in the headlight look to me, he has a certain swagger about him despite being only 19 and playing 3 games.
