I'm not sure it's been "proven false". The Statement from SCOTUS says Justice Sonia Sotomayor didn't ask Gorsuch to wear a mask. The tweet I posted and you quoted didn't make that claim either. it no wonder conservatives have a credibility problem. They can't read.2 points

the authoritarian side has always been happy to suppress speech as a political act, but the idea of suppressing speech as a therapeutic act seems to me (at least) to be a marker of 21st century progressivism. The repudiation of the more classic Americanism of "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" comes to us from sectors that are on what I would call the authoritarian left. Now in this case we can probably safely say the suppression at heart is still for political reasons and the therapeutic claim is simply cynical cover. But maybe in the broader sense that is the case on both sides. I suppose that it's probably true that even on the part of the progressive segments that have given us this therapeutic speech limitation paradigm that at a deeper level it's just a re-emergence of same kind of leftest thought control authoritarianism expressed in Leninism or Maoism. And it goes back to the other related question I don't really have an answer for, which is the separate but almost converse problem of demonstrably false speech having powerful economic platforms exactly because it is comforting/therapeutic to those listening.2 points

LOL, I sometimes stop at NPR when I am driving up for my hikes in rural NH. It's either that or country music or right wing conspiracy theory radio or some evangelist ranting about how I'm going to hell for being a liberal. NPR's news is very balanced and includes some conservative voices (not the MAGA BS, but old school conservative). Their esoteric documentaries are pompously liberal. If I'm lucky, I can find a local station that plays rock music from the 80s.1 point

i dont listen to either anymore so i really cant say. i only watch fox on election night when cnn is at commercial. i got tired of stories about poor guatemalan lesbian sheep herders and their fight against american sexist imperialism, so i stopped listening to npr.1 point

I think their big words and cultured tones make them seem more left than they are! They certainly are not extreme.1 point

yes, you are right. that's it. They can do no wrong. CNN also reported it too. Fox News of the left? Get real. That's an absurd statement. Maybe Roberts lied? It's funny that they come back from break all wearing masks except Gorsuch. It's because he's an asshole. Nice Catholic Jesuit he is... eh? My opinion's unchanged. It's the polite thing to do around a co worker and he's not polite. She took the high road. Conservatives don't know what that is.1 point

The pillow guy said so... This is all a circle jerk by republicans. Whine and cry with no evidence then use that whining and crying to say "People don't have faith". There's been no evidence of fraud beyond onesys and twoseys here and there in which republicans tried to vote twice. Nothing of any significant scale. Republicans just don't want black votes to count. We saw that in Detroit at Cobo center. "They're moving boxes.... look!" They trot out strippers/escorts who get hired to wipe down the glass of election tabulators as experts.1 point

Yes, both my wife and I are huge fans of Cobra Kai. The original Karate Kid is a classic from our youth, so it wasn't hard to find this series enjoyable. Love the humor and drama... Good stuff. We hate having to wait another year or so to binge the next season.1 point

Resident Alien, season 2, starts 1/26. I ❤️ It. Makes me laugh, and sometimes that’s all that’s needed to lighten the load.1 point

Yeah Georgia purging all their election boards of Democrats and moving closer to be able to over turn the results of elections in individual counties is nothing to worry about. The fact Harris County Texas is rejecting absentee ballots at an alarming rate is nothing to worry about and only marginal. Cutting dropbox locations in inner cities like Milwaukee by 80-90% is just marginal.1 point

voter id laws dont hurt democrats and dont help republicans. they dont do much at all, really. the democrats picking this hill to die on, and using ridiculously hyperbolic language about "freedom to vote," "jim crow", and "saving democracy" is going to backfire on them. i assume its a sop to the left wing of the party but its an issue most voters dont care about. cause its a non issue. similarly, the republicans constant bleating about fraud in elections and how their bills prevent that is a sop to the low information right wing voter. the effects of their bills are marginal at best and may end up helping democrats as much as it helps republicans. the REAL issue is the electoral vote reform measures that both parties are working on right now and has a good chance of passing. that's the important one to prevent 2020 type shenanigans from trump again.1 point

when the republicans control the senate in a few months, how many liberals will be loving the filibuster and praising manchin and sinema for protecting minority rights against the republican authoritarians?1 point

Nuggets announced that Bol Bol is having surgery on his foot and will be out for 8 to 12 weeks, so that explains why the trade was nixed. I believe he had issues with his feet in college which is why he dropped as far as he did in the draft so this isn't good news at all for him, especially when you factor in his size.1 point

So what do you really know about Virginia election integrity and security. They already require ID, absentee ballots need to be signed by a witness, early voting lasts about 6 weeks. Makes it safe and convenient. Maybe too convenient for Trumpublicans. By the way, the current guy won the nomination after the party rigged the system to clear the way for Gov Fleecevest.1 point

When I met my wife our first date was a Tiger game. I was a senior in high school. We met Labor day weekend. The following Friday I took her to a game against the Yankees. A few years ago I looked it up on BR. I figured if she couldn't handle going to a game then there's no point because that's what I do.1 point

I hate McVay but like Stafford. I'm conflicted. McVay reminds me of Patricia but only successful. I feel like the first time the Rams struggle or have a losing season, players will turn on McVay.1 point
