  3. have leaders and those politicians ever said that you can NEVER remove your mask? Taking your mask for a few seconds for a photo isn't a big deal. Manufactured outrage.

  4. others might be more likely to go if they knew everyone around them was vaccinated. They also might have a more stable employee base knowing the customers were vaccinated. I went to 4 concerts since Thanksgiving that all required proof of vaccination before being let in. I would not have gone without that requirement. Every restaurant we went by in Chicago on Friday and Saturday night last weekend was full and had a waiting list.

  8. Me too. Few celebrity deaths really, truly impact me in a big way. I feel for them as people, but I don't feel start struck when they died. However, I loved all the content Bourdain put out from No Reservations onward. He seemed like a genuinely good human being and losing him hurt, especially by suicide. Actor Eric Bogosian would be a perfect fit to play him in a movie.

  9. In addition to some being overwhelmed or close to it, it seems most hospitals are facing both real staffing shortages and burnout. It’s not a binary thing (overwhelmed/okay). Lots in between that isn’t sustainable or acceptable.

  18. and I think the recent CDC paper did another serious disservice by not making clear the distinction between masking as a personal protection strategy and masking as a public health transmission reduction strategy. They are different things completely and even the professionals constantly forget to keep the distinction clear. Masks don't have to be particularly effective at preventing individual exposure to still be effective at reducing community spread. This had been a fundamental and continuing point of confusion about masking from the beginning of the pandemic and the clarity on it just never gets any better.

  26. Speaking of the Olympics, interesting tidbit about Chris Chelios’ who is competing in Olympics hockey. For the States? For Canada? Greece? Nope. From today’s Toronto Globe & Mail: One such player this year is the son of a four-time U.S. Olympian, Chris Chelios. “Obviously I’m not Chinese but for the last three years I’ve been playing for the Chinese team, I’ve got the chance to live here and I love it,” Jake Chelios, who competes as Jieke Kailiaosi, told the Olympic news service this week.
