  1. Reasoning? There is no more "reasoning" here than the once serious arguments over Angels dancing on pin heads. There is no "reasoning" at all behind any of it, it's all a bunch of ancient superstition with an overlay of modern high tech demagoguery and basic misogyny. That is the reality when it come to anything resembling rational analysis here.

  3. All from "column B" IMO. I hope they all thrive and have exemplary seasons. But do not lose sight of the reality that all of them are here mostly because they were cheaper than available alternatives.

  4. The fertilized egg argument betrays a basic ignorance of biology. Nature throws away half of all fertilized eggs as they never implant. Sounds like the Creator was not sufficient devout. I guess they're going to need to find a way to put the big guy in sky in the pokey. ..Oh that's right, he's strictly male type. Nevermind.

  5. RIght - I'll start thinking about supporting anti-abortion law the day they promise that no woman goes to jail for it unless the male that 'donated' the sperm to the transaction goes too.

  7. Yeah I was so focused on our suckiness that I didn't realize just how bad the Reds were doing over in the Senior Circuit. Edit: sorry for the double post, don't know what happened but I dropped the ball..... just like the Reds have been doing this year.

  8. I thought the fact that in 2019 the Lions were 3-4-1 with Stafford and 0-8 without him debunked this Stafford nonsense.

  12. An update on my wife's lymphoma and chemo- My post about her losing her hair was a false alarm. So far, she's good. We've reached our $4,500 maximum, so we should be done with that. for the rest of the year. I got my Moderna shot number 4 last week. My wife got a shot of Evosheld. This is designed for people with compromised immune systems. Instead of stimulating the body's immune system to produce antibodies, it just injects antibodies. There were several other people in this thread whose family members were involved in chemo. I'd like to hear how you're doing.

  14. which is in itself prima facie evidence that the original system has broken down. And again, to my reading this obsessive deification of the 'original text' of the document on the right is aimed at protecting the ascendency of a minority that can't pledge itself to the spirit and aspirations of the document any more.

  15. Do people forget that the Texans were 4-12 in Watson's last season with a roster that was probably no worse than the Lions roster? Have we not learned from the Stafford era that you can't just throw a QB on the team and except them to carry an inferior roster?

  18. And that's my exact point. That's the fool hearty thinking. All those problems I laid out, everything would have to break right for that quote to be true. What's the chances of that? You said maybe to a lot of em. Sure the lions are magically gonna finally turn it around for the first time in 70s. Sure a fast guy is magically gonna make it so he can throw it in the air 20 more yards. Gonna have to explain the physics to me on that one. Its not a matter of guys not getting open on the long ball, its the fact he can't do it. Why are we trying to convince ourself maybe he is OK and then let's waste some more years seeing what he can do longterm still as an average, at best, QB? Great now in 5 years we still don't have a QB, have now wasted these young guys on rookie deals and are right back to square 1. I don't get why that thing you posted is a good thing or reasonable for a 7 year starter. It's like sitting around hoping Jiminez finally figures it out. At some point guys are what they are. Gofff is a fine journeyman starter, might even win you some games if you have a decent team. But, nobody wants to be Iowa in the NFL. That's what Goff is he's Iowa. 8-4. An occasional 10-2 but fall short in the end.

  19. My views go back to pre Rowe when having a child out of wedlock still carried a severe stigma. I know girls around 16, 17 or so who were forced to drop out of school. Get involved in "shotgun" marriages, that usually failed in the end. Or if older had to give up promising careers that they later regretted. Even if the child was given up for adoption, the stigma remained. Not that the "guilt" of having an abortion wouldn't be there as well. I think of the 20 something college educated woman who would have probably lost her job, had her family abandon her (there was a family history there). Even if she gave the child up she was already screwed...

  20. There are solutions to this folks, i'm not sure why everyone thinks it's a big deal. A compromise can be reached, but it'll take some blinders. For my left leaning friends here. (Right leaning, move to the next paragraph without reading this) Publicly say abortion isn't a good thing, you don't even have to say bad, just say it's not a good thing, no one wants it, etc. Then accept a 'penalty' against the person that gets the procedure. Because it's not desired, it needs to be well regulated, like Pot. You have to go to a federal approved site to have it done, that'll ensure you pay the penalty. In looking it up, it says the average abortion is $750 but less in some states, let's just say $500 is the cost of the 'fine'. We're actually subsidizing it, but shush, be quiet. Please stop reading now. Hey my right leaning friends. We all know abortion is really bad, but c'mon, who gets abortions? Yeah, you're right, people that go around having sex or allowing themselves to get raped or molested. Do we really want those people being mom's? So let's have a federal legal ban on abortion but for those that are going to do it anyway, like those stupid hippies smoking their 'reefer', we'll punish them with a tax penalty of $500 bucks everytime they do it. That'll show them and help them lead life without hopping into bed outside of marriage (to a man of course, amirite?!?!?) Good God fearing women would never break the law, so this will help save them from a horrible sin that the devil currently tempts them with. Plus all the tax money we get out of this ,we can put towards cops to protect us from those babies that liberals end up not aborting due to this.

  24. So are all these antediluvian white males so focused on female fertility because they want to keep their own wives barefoot and pregnant, or just because they don't have the confidence to compete with them in the workplace? It also ties in directly with suppression of minority voting access because their program will also help speed their transition to racial minority status, so you have to have voter suppression well established before that bigger generation of minority babies reaches voting age.

  31. I haven't watched any of the Fed pressers in a long time other than a little today. But I got curious today and did a little poking around. The Fed announced an open ended buying of MBS March 15, 2020. If you look at the chart below, it is the exact day where you see a bubble that says 2191.86. Then look up and to the right and you will see a bubble that says 4818.62. That is Jan 4, 2022. That is a 3 year chart. As you can see, once you get to the top bubble, the market turns over. So what happened on the day of the second bubble? The date is Jan 4th. Did anything happen that day? Yep. Dow drops nearly 400 points in first loss of 2022, as traders brace for a more aggressive Fed The money line; Discussed reducing it's balance sheet... All 9 trillion of it. For context, a 5 year chart. Their balance sheet has expanded from 4 to 9 trillion (rounding) in the last 2 years. I wonder how much the total MBS purchases (over a trillion) actually add up to, and what we accomplished for creating all this money (I guess, since this isn't bonds, the debt isn't monetized, so where did it come from?). One thing we did was send the S&P some 2600 points higher, or quick, someone do the math - 120% if you hit bottom to top. And this is only a 2 year run. Ain't that friken sweet? Sure, but for who? How many people doubled their money in the last two years? Guessing it ain't most of us. And now they are talking about more rate hikes, limiting MBS purchases - in other words - taking away the punch bowl. Usual policy says when inflation is running hot you raise rates. The market expected 50bp, got it, then ripped to the upside, along with the rip went commodities, with crude closing around 108. Not helpful. We'll see where this goes, but the Fed has a market that turned over while we have a 8.5 inflation rate and a last quarter -1.4 GDP. Who you gonna save? Sure as fuck won't be us chumps.

  40. I know it's naive to never say never but I can't imagine that going over well with most people. I think same sex marriage has more broad appeal than abortion rights. But maybe not as intense. The dems need to go scorthed earth 1996 style to portray the GOP as what they are. Quit playing nice. There's nuance to the abortion debate even though I don't think there should be. But there's nothing nuanced about same sex marriage anymore.

  41. So I can finish this story today. The check from Westinghouse did arrive, after which I ordered the part. The part arrived today. I paid not the $320 the service firm had quoted on their work estimate, but $150 - for a factory certified new part. It took about 20 min to install the board, test function, and re-assemble the door. No more dead dishwasher! All in all, considering Westinghouse effectively paid me > $200/hr to fix their dishwasher - NOT a peeve.
