  1. Speaking of BaBIP, Carpenter with over 60 MLB PA, an 840 OPS on only a 308 BaBIP. Who knows if he will just flame out but that's a fair start for a guy who was given zero chance of making the majors 5 months ago.

  4. It’s not a problem for other leagues. They maximize viewers nationally. For every one you think they would lose on the east coast they would lose on the west.

  5. Wallinder ended with 3 assists and Kasper had 2 assists. Stole this from HF boards So far Kasper is incredible at suppressing shots and he has 6 points in 4 games. Tough to not be excited about this kind of play from a young center. Amadeus Lombardi apparently played as Flint's top line center in their first preseason game, he scored a goal. I'm hoping we get some game footage of this kid this season, why can't everyone play in the SHL?!

  6. For me it goes back the same argument that baseball is not really much a spectator sport anyway. The appeal of baseball was always that people watched it because they could identify vicariously with the players because they had played baseball. In the older generation even the women played in grade school, played softball in co-rec leagues with their guys, etc. That's is all disappearing and that is what baseball cannot fix by trying to turn the game into something 'entertaining' that it never was in the first place. They might someday come up with a successful mass market product, but it's connection to baseball as it was known to the generations born before 2000 will be incidental. Cultures change. Baseball as we knew it is/going to be a casualty.

  7. banning the shift is the wrong answer to the right question because it introduces a set of totally unnecessary variables for the rules to fret over forever (can this fielder be 'here' or does he have to be 'there') in place the absolute simplicity of 'a fielder can play where-ever he wants to" that managed to serve for a century - until they rabbited the ball that is. But it's the modern American affliction: When you break something, you can never admit it and just put it back, you have to go 100 yards out of your way to change any and everything in the environment so you can deny you ever broke what you clearly did, and all without ever getting back to where you really want to be.

  8. except that deadening the ball would have been more effective than banning the shift. Banning the shift doesn't decrease the incentive to swing for the fences and strike out at all- it only increases it because you have decreased the penalty for that approach. Sure, there will be more base hits, but not because batters are doing anything to actually play for the base hit rather than the HR.

  9. Ok, compromise. Have some start earlier and others stay the same. Why should all the punishment be on the east coast? The 9:30pm start time on Labor Day should have never been allowed to happen.

  10. What is your solution for start times on the west coast? If you moved it up to 8:00 PM ET, for example, that would be 5:00 PM Pacific. Too early for anyone who works. Other professional leagues optimize the schedule for the local market.

  11. Good open source analysis thread of what appears to be happening If this is just information op against Russia (we have forces you don't even know where) then, good job. If they actually have these force well, good luck Russia: the doorkeepers of Zion are coming to kick your ass.

  12. Should we feel good if we go into Spring Training next year with Eric Haase as our primary catcher? Seems like nobody ever talks about him as anything more than a backup. But a .750 OPS from a catcher over roughly his last 700 at bats is nothing to sneeze at. I don't watch enough games at this point in the season to really notice his defense but I have a hard time believing we could do better than him in the offseason.

  13. This Jonathan Heasley, today's Kansas City starting pitcher. That's a strong mullet and mustache combination. I gotta be honest, I fear another shutout.

  14. Foreign Affairs is paywalled, but they appear to have a 'one free article' exemption. I just used it to read a piece by Timothy Snyder that lays out the stakes in Ukraine against a backdrop of all of western history. https://www.foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/ukraine-war-democracy-nihilism-timothy-snyder?utm_medium=social

  15. I don’t know of the timeline but there is a theory that the leak was intentional for promotional purposes. you are right. She was. Then it was decided to prove out that too much of a good thing is bad. Yes you have a nice butt and lips. Don’t need to artificially amplify them.

  17. I've always thought Wentz would make a good #4 or 5 at this level. So yes, I was always a supporter but... No, I didn't (and don't) think he would be better than Manning. But I'll take a 5th starter out of him if we can get it...

  18. Toledo: Lipcius again with a 2 for 4 including a double and now at .327/ .932... if he can't handle SS does he have enough bat/ glove where we could put him somewhere? Or as Ed says... is this BABIP fueled and he will regress to the mean soon enough so don't worry about it...? Erie: Madden pitched a good game but gets the loss on 2 unearned runs; 4 inn's, 5 hits, 1 BB and 5 K's... No offense to speak of at all... WM: Dylan Smith pitched a good game and gets the 4-0 win on 6 shutout inn's, 2 hits, 2 BB's and 6 K's... Not much offense but Serretti went 2 for 4 (incl. a double) and is hitting .294 at WM... Pacheco hit a HR in a 1-4 but is still below Mendoza at .190.

  19. a lot easier to score runs when you hit the ball out of the park. HRs for Haase and Candelario. Tigers up 4 in the 2nd.

  22. I have a Spotify playlist that started as a workout mix, but has morphed to basically be nearly every song I like. It has stuff from the 70s/80s all the way up to new music and includes rap, pop, rock, Prince, Jimmy Buffett... I just looked at it, and it has 1466 songs on it for a total of 91 hours. LOL!

  23. I sort of get why the UK cares but no idea why the rest of the world still does. They are currently a topic in 3 different threads here at the moment. They are like a less talented version of the Kardashians.

  24. Toledo W 5-2 - Garcia with a solid 6IP 6K outing while giving up 2ER set the tone for the game, Lipcius continues to feast on AAA pitching with a 2/3 2B BB performance bringing his BA to .320 with a .919 OPS over 29 games. Erie W 9-2 - Erie went with the death by a thousand cuts route notching only one XBH a double by Workman his 29th. Meadows went 2/4 with 2RBI and a SB. Workman went 1/3 with a K and a BB to go along with the double. Newcomer Garcia went 0/2 with 2 BB and a K. As shown above Olson went 5IP 2 non-earned runs and 6K bringing his season ERA to 4.15 WM W 7-6 - WM tried to give this one away but were able to hang on for the win. Jung goes 0/4 with 2K's and Pacheco tries to match him but sneaks in a BB to go 0/3 with 2 K's. Crouch goes 3/4 with an RBI. Serretti goes 1/3 with a BB and 2B and had 2 runs and a SB. 2022 draftee Trevin Michael with an ugly 2/3 IP 4ER line. Lakeland L 7-3 - The only loss in the org last night. Graham goes 1/3 but is pulled in the 8th for Luke Gold (Not sure why). Nothing really of note here Santana and Dom "Don't Call me Don" Johnson hit sac flys.
