Mediocre is 1.1 WAR per year as calculated by baseball-reference. If one has an entire active roster of 1.1 WAR on average over an active roster, if one plugs that in the last iteration of Baseball- Reference's WAR formula, an average WAR of that level on an active team roster should produce an 81 win team. Over 7 seasons, Jemier, has a 7.5 WAR. In 2018 he had a 1.8 WAR, then in 2019 he collapsed to .2 WAR. I would throw out 2020 in any player evaluation due to season length. In 2021 Jemier posts a 4.1 WAR, then in 2022 he posts .8 WAR. His WAR is one good year followed by one poor year. Of his total career, 54 % of that value comes from his 2021 season. There is a great deal of risk to Jemier's production as shown by his high season to season variabilty, with one year being very strong, and the following year being poor. I have waffled on Jemier over the last 3 months because the eye test shows that there have been moments of great promise. When I look at his total output, coupled with his wide variabilty in production from year to year, I am not sad to see him gone.4 points

Let me help you make sense of the decision not to give Jeimer a raise: .217 batting average and .633 OPS. Pretty sure that Zach Short could give us that. You guys are like a bunch of millennials who expect a participation trophy for each of our players. Personally, I don’t want to sit through another bullshit season with the same group of underperformers.2 points

Harris has a budget, maybe somewhere around $170 million, and he doesn't think Candelario is a $7 million player and neither does the rest of the league. Maybe he uses "wins", maybe he doesn't, who cares? I am not in the camp that says "I am going to be ticked off if he doesn't replace Candelario's production at third base" because it isn't that simple. We will not easily identify what he did with the money he didn't give Candelario, it's not just about third base it's about the whole roster. Maybe it means a 25th man who is worth 2 million instead of 700 thousand. Maybe it means an extra reliever with a decent track record. I believe in what others have said here. If Candelario is a $4 million player, let's offer him $4 million. Let's not put a $7 million hole in our budget just because the alternative is not immediately obvious. I like this guy, he's smart.2 points

I was reluctant to start a new thread, but the Rule V Draft has traditionally been a big event at Motown Forums. This is a thread for serious discussion as well as party preparation. Yes, Edman, we know it's called "Rule 5", but the party invitations have already been sent and there is nothing Liston can do about it now.1 point

I definitely think Trump wants to be president, because he is intoxicated by the almost limitless power it affords him. He may not have cared much about being president before 2017, maybe because he thought it would be too much actual work or something, but once he got in there and saw he didn't have to hardly do jack shit, and experienced all the power that came with it, he got hooked and never wanted to let it go. I also think we give him too little credit when it comes to being stupid, ignorant, and clueless. He doesn't give a shit about working within a democracy, I agree, but I think he does give enough of a shit about the concept of democracy to know that he wants to destroy it, because it was democracy what got him kicked out of the presidency in the first place. Democracy is a huge impediment to him. Becoming president again will give him more attention, money, and opportunity for revenge than even he will ever be able to eat. I don't think it's enough for him anymore to simply fund-raise off the idea. I think he will do anything to get back in.1 point

I think a three-point TCU loss, to a top 7 or 8 team, in OT, in a game that Ohio State did not have to play, will keep TCU at #3* *if keeping them at #3 is convenient for the committee.1 point

i think a tcu loss puts a rematch in play. tcu, michigan, and georgia win and its georgia v osu and michigan v tcu. tcu loses and its georgia v tcu and michigan v ohio state. it really shouldnt be. usc should be in over osu. its unfair that usc has to play an extra game against a top 10 team and osu doesnt. usc should be in.1 point

I remember one year we let Polanco walk and gave the job to Scott Sizemore. That didn't work out. This year we let our 3rd baseman walk with no player waiting in the wings. Just sign a good defensive LH hitting 3rd baseman who hits .320 with 30 home runs and 120 RBI and I'll be happy. 😆1 point

At this point, does Smith-Njigba risk his draft stock with further injury? Honestly, I don't know what his draft stock would be right now, so maybe he needs another season of play. Henderson/Williams had the potential to be a dynamic duo, but they couldn't stay on the field long enough. Looking at the stats, I am shocked that Henderson was dressed for 10 games and Williams was dressed for 8 games. It seems like they alternated availability to the point where it was every other game. It was probably only that one or the other was pulled from the game by halftime due to injury.1 point

She and her compadres also have a lot of political relevance at this particular moment with such a small majority and Kevin cutting backroom deals for their support. There's a fine line between giving too much and too little attention, but let's not pretend she (and statements she makes) aren't newsworthy either1 point

Candy looked lost at the plate and in the field. He wasn't his old self and we'll probably never find out if it was mental or physical. I would have been fine gambling $7 million for one more year but I expect Harris to find an established player to replace him.1 point

Since we are talking about Unions, I have to tell this story. Disclosure; I grew up in a union home. My 5' 3" mom was a union rep at the local factory she worked in. Her 6' 5" 350 brother was scared of her, and so was dad. So was I. She was Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies - literally - coming from West Virginia. Moved North during the industrial revolution and made a life. Unions were part of how people like my parents could do so, same in Michigan with the auto industry. The story; circa 1983-4. I worked at a local (Cornhole, town in the sticks of NW Ohio) manufacturer who made cranes. They got a huge order from the military and built a couple hundred machines. They were making huge money. This was an example of $200 dollar o-rings. The workers wanted more money so the union threatened to go on strike. The contract was in play too, because they "collective bargained" every so many years and the timing was right. It took a while to play out, but it got there. While we ate lunch one day close to the deadline, the union president was going all preacher on us, telling how he was going to kick their ass here shortly. He was called to the office for the big meeting over the loudspeaker. Rah, rah, rah, off he went. Charge! He wimped out like a dead fish flopping around on a beach once in the room, and that's being kind. The funny part - they never turned off the mic - so the entire conversation was broadcasted to the workers. Brilliant, if you are company. He came out with the same bravado, but once he found out he was fucked - he shot out the door. He did come back (not the same day). I really thought the guys would string him up. There were some crazy dudes there.1 point

yeah - this was a long time coming - the Dems had\ve been fools for letting states they weren't going to carry nominate their candidate. This is also Biden's work. The man knows a thing or two about how to do politics correctly. This is the kind of change Obama could have gotten if he had had a better sense of party building.1 point
