I started getting a flu shot a few years ago. It was 100% based on science. Girlfriend said, "Hey, you need to start getting a flu shot." Years of research and experiments have made me come to the conclusion that doing what she says equals a happier life for me.6 points

I saw a study that said conservatively, the vaccines kept 18.5M out of the hospital, saved 3.2 million lives, and $1T in medical costs.4 points

I think the sign of a good leader is giving credit publicly to others, & at times allowing yourself to be self-deprecating. So many "alphas" will never allow themselves to look silly - DC does that beautifully.2 points

No cats, but a couple of historical fiction novels you might check out. Mary Doria Russell, probably best known for her science fiction novel The Sparrow (very good read, raises some interesting philosophical religious theories). I enjoyed her Tombstone novels Doc and Epitaph which focus on the Earp brothers and Doc Holiday. A couple more Russell "historical" novels; The Women of Copper Country, is focused on the labor issues around the mining industry in Calumet Michigan in 1913. A Thread of Grace is probably my favorite of her works. 1943 shortly after Italy broke from Germany in WWII, a group of Jewish refugees trying to escape across the Alps for a chance of safety. The books is based on the underground efforts by Italian citizens who saved the lives of 43,000 Jews near the end of the war. If you're into historical espionage novels check out the works of Noel Hynd. I've read his Berlin series and enjoyed it. He's also written a couple of baseball related books based on the Giants and Dodgers during their final years in NY2 points

a healthy swift has made a big difference for this team. i dont know if corum is as talented as swift. that said, im not opposed to the lions taking a running back after seeing how well the offense runs with multiple good backs in it. and if swift cant stay healthy, they're going to need another playmaker back there.1 point

the jets game will be a big test for goff. he had a similar test against the giants and passed it, so there is precedent. the jets are a better defense than the giants, so it should be tougher.1 point

This is another argument I like. He's not good when you have a shit team around him so lets draft another QB we hope can be good with a shit team around him. It's Stafford 2.0 if you are lucky.1 point

IDK, Goff is still pretty much exactly what people said he was when he got here - a guy who throws well and makes good decisions given a good O-line giving him time and receivers that get open. I sort of think it's less that Goff was been any different either when they were losing or winning. It's the team around him and the perceptions of he and the team are what has changed. So if you are a GM, I guess the question is: How much can the incremental improvement that a QB with mobility and maybe more daring get you in terms of wins given that you have that good OLine and receivers that get open - as compared to using that draft capital somewhere else?1 point

A 28 year old QB who is top 7 in QBR, but was also drafted #1 overall not that long ago and has a couple Pro Bowls under his belt. A QB who played well enough to convince the Rams he was the long term answer and gave him a long term contract. This isn't a situation like Geno Smith where he suddenly has a good year. Goff is playing at the level he was playing at in 2017 and 2018.1 point

That was beautiful. I believe half of what he says, but it's comedic gold and I love this man (when we are winning).1 point

25 out of 25 baseball fans, experts, mavens, coaches, executives, owners, managers, accountants etc...would pick Javier Baez over Neifi Perez. Is Javier Baez perfect? By no means. Is there empirical data that suggests he was the least of issues in 2021? also yes1 point
-
Baez in 2022 also had an on base percentage 11 points lower than Victor Reyes, while committing a career high in errors, the total of which was 6 times higher than Neifi Perez committed during his entire tenure as a Tiger. Know what that proves? Any fool can cherry-pick stats .1 point

RIP Legend. There will never be another quite like him and that goes well beyond football coaches.1 point

So... just thinking about a few things (drafting a QB on the back-burner, emphasis on defensive playmakers, could use Kicking competition and backups at OL, RB, and QB (if the right guy is there))... I did a PFN Simulator and ended up with (making only 1 trade that I couldn't pass up... I didn't accept anything crazy/ ridiculous... but this one was just too good and not completely outrageous... I traded a 5th and down two spots with our pick in the 1st and gained #17 and a 3rd rounder, #71): This is who I ended up with: 4 Jalen Carter DT Georgia 17 Joey Porter Jr. CB Penn State 46 Jordan Battle S Alabama 60 Andre Carter II EDGE Army 71 DeMarvion Overshown LB Texas 78 Blake Corum RB Michigan 166 Joe Tippmann OC Wisconsin 178 Noah Ruggles K Ohio State A pass-rushing interior terror in Jalen Carter, a tough and lengthy CB in Joey Porter Jr., a playmaking all-over-the-field Safety in Battle, a pass-rushing DE that may grow into a complete starter, a tall, rangy coverage LB'er in Overshown, UM RB Corum, a 6' 6" athletic OC who may be able to play all along the line in Tippmann, and the top-rated Kicker out of college in Ruggles. Anything after this I think is icing...1 point

Shop all the relief pitchers. Relievers have a lot more value to a bad team in trades than they have on the field.1 point

Good interview with Malloy by FanGraphs. If this guy is any good, he is going to be a big fan favorite. He reminds me a little of Curtis Granderson.1 point

There are reasons for concern. However, they just did a major shakeup of the front office. It's hard to be patient given the last several years, but I think it's fair to give them some time.1 point

I think he’s definitely going to get that shot. It’s too bad for us that he’s white.1 point

He gave up a inconsistent and therefore low value reliever for a potential every day player Pretty easy to figure out. No one is saying the guy is Willie Mays1 point

Yes. Julian calendars are part of the basis for our batch codes assigned to production. These are essential in the unfortunate event that we need to perform a recall. This is the one that I have at work. Julians are in small font in the top right corner of each day.1 point

The union story should be the leading story on every news channel. The ultimate battle between workers and corporate greed. But of course that doesn't happen. Imagine that. But they are moving some of the suicide net factories from China to Vietnam, so we can still buy $100 microwaves, so it's all good.1 point
