  5. almost guaranteeing that Harbaugh leaves, I donated to the Valiant "one more year fund". I bought a Saturn and Oldsmobile and killed both car companies. My purchase of a Lincoln car ended the production of Lincoln cars. I purchased the last gasoline sedan Cadillac will make. For now both car brands still exist but I assume both are on borrowed time. I got heavily invested in minidiscs and that format died. I'm basically, death for certain products. So, I apologize for the mayhem my donation will cause.

  6. Seeing Mitch Albom weighing in on the Lions gave me the "run in the other direction" vibe. The minute you get to the cab-drivers-giving-you-stock-advice stage of economy, get out of the market. Mitch, for all his feelgoodery is...not really plugged in.

  7. I only vaguely remember omf and mattingly... I think they were not so active in later years? But that's a good list: JonBenke, Yoda, DaYooper, Shelton & Biggs were all pretty big contributors on Motown Sports...

  8. I would give Chafin his money... Put one vet in the BP just to babysit the kids. And... Chafin is LH'ed, and GOOD, and limits walks/ controls the strike zone. He has to be the "perfect" guy to add to the BP at this point. Don't care about the money. Money's not an issue at all... and neither is the 2 OR 3 years. One last point. He's a tradeable guy. If not this year (by Harris's choice, to keep him for his leadership), then next year (by... popular demand). For a decent haul I would think as well... "Gy'ive thy'at man hees mon-ey."

  9. Only because I attended a bowl game in the last week where my school was coached by Brian Brohm, there was a period in the mid-aughts where I got him confused with Brian Bluhm. Yoda's still on Twitter.

  10. Marwin Gonzalez and Jake Marisnick are who I am thinking of. Particularly Gonzalez, who would get 400+ ABs a season while not being tethered to any one position.

  12. The "List Positions, Four Bench Spots, Five Starting Pitchers, and Bullpen Roles" trope is antiquated. I came in here to point out Harris's quotes yesterday that pretty much said that outright and saw about five such posts. Since Hinch took managing over, how often have the Tigers had the same lineup in back-to-back games. A lot of flux, a lot of match-ups, a lot of mixing and matching. That's only going to increase.

  13. I can see it's power. From the perspective of those weaponizing it: its code for all the frustrations that the average person has with penalties they may face for free speech if their free speech is undesirable.

  15. Gregory Soto is a pimp. He could never have outfought Alex Lange. Who is our closer? Well, does it matter? Gotta have leads first. Leads? The good leads. And to you they're gold, only you don't get them. To give them to you would just be like throwing them away They're for closers only

  18. Lange next? for a team still building, if a reliver has value, move him now, before he craters or gets injured.

  19. I’m going to put this into the world now in case I’m disappointed in 24-30 hours…. No matter what happens tomorrow, this season was a resounding success. With that being said… Rams 24 Seahawks 15 Lions 40 Packers 34 (OT)

  20. The thing I like most about the trade is Maton sounds solid defensively and Vierling should be solid in RF. We went from guys who don't hit much and can't field to guys who can field and might hit a bit with more years of control. The pitching staff will be very happy with the defensive upgrade. Harris seems to be gathering as many 22-26 year olds with potential as he can so they will all hit their primes in the next 2-5 years.

  21. Meh - I doubt there is a locking or unlocking to be done. He has to throw his breaking ball for srtikes. A breaking ball he already knows perfectly well how to throw and that he has had success with in the past. Soto's problem isn't advice, it's pure execution. He may or may not straighten himself out, and some coach may claim credit, but it will just be resume luck.

  22. They weren't going get anything overly exciting for Soto, but Maton and Vierling should make the roster and they are more exciting than Reyes and the Castros. Maton might be their starting 3B. Sands probably won't make the roster but he is more than just minor league depth.

  23. Yes, in all seriousness I think that these guys who "might suck" are a big improvement over the guys who "definitely suck".

  26. Trading a reliever while he has value before he gets expensive for three bats is a win. Clemens is immaterial; he sucks. Between Harris specifically citing a LH infielder and RH outfielder earlier, and Clemens surviving many roster purges he had no business surviving, I have a feeling this trade has been close to done for a while.

  27. the other thing is that you can't predict with much certainty which way the public mood is going to go if the FC group starts playing obstruction. Maybe it ends up playing well, or maybe the public is tired of it and the backlash ends up being a big boost for the Dems. I think the latter is more likely, in which case the non-FC GOP members are going to see themselves forced pretty quickly into a deal with the Dems to kneecap the FC.
