If Dingler is 'pivotal' it can only be because Lynn was standing on one foot while he typed.3 points

Bryce Harper had TJ surgery the day before Thanksgiving and he is scheduled to make his return this week. Obviously being a position player changes things but still that's crazy to be ready to go less than 6 months after the surgery.2 points

Holmes could have easily stood pat and took "his guy" Gibbs at 6 (which I'm sure Quinn would have done) but, instead, worked the phones knowing that he could still get his guy at 12 (unless somebody else traded up for Gibbs) and collected an asset in addition so instead of just Gibbs+whoever at 81, he landed Gibbs+LaPorta. Argue positional value all you want but instead of settling for his guy, he went to work and still got his guy while adding another guy. He used one of those assets to trade up for Branch then did the same with Hooker, kept trading down to collect assets making a calculation that Hooker would be there in the 3rd round and still landed a guy who most were projecting in the 2nd at worst. He then used those assets to take a longshot NT which I'm still baffled but he made all the maneuvering and landed his targeted players. Personally, I think he took a big leap of faith with some of these guys going against the consensus but he did what he had to do to land the guys he wanted which is a talent in itself.2 points

That's why Carter was nine pounds heavier...he ate all his birthday cake because no one showed up to his party2 points

The Pirates are 10 games ahead of the Cardinals through April. I wonder what the return would have been for plunking $1 down on a bet for that on Opening Day Eve?2 points

Snacks had a RAS even worse than Martin. Martin is a space eating run stuffer. Those type of players aren't athletic and you can throw RAS out the window. They are there to be big, take on blockers, and free up your linebackers. He's more of a role player whose role was a need for most of the year last year. Maybe you don't draft him that high nor trade up for him, but I like the pick given the need for this team. That's a lot of beef now in the middle of the line between Martin and McNeil. It can free up Campbell, and Anzalone and Rodriguez to also chase down mobile QBs.1 point

I had blocked out that entire tenure in my mind. This may set me back a while. 😉1 point

It was Quinn who brought in Snacks, but run defense was an issue through a lot of the season. It got better when they put Buggs at nose tackle. Martin is similar to Snacks and the entire defense guy better after they acquired Snacks.1 point

I guess I'm wondering why they seemed to snitch on only Lions? Am I to believe that other than the guy in Washington only Lions players were using this app?1 point

Priceless. 😂 Think Howie Roseman will make the DL coach send Carter a belated birthday card? But seriously, that may be the interesting thing that Dan Campbell mentioned.1 point

I know I go to that well a little much, but in the last two weeks leading up to the draft, he accurately mocked Gibbs, Campbell, and LaPorta to the Lions. He’s definitely got a contact in the org.1 point

Beyond the grades… which are dumb even if I do them myself and pay attention to them despite my best efforts… What I give Holmes a lot of credit for is his improvisation and ability to work the board on the fly. In 2021 and 22, the choice was pretty obvious, the board fell largely as expected, and the Lions were able to orchestrate moves that they had planned out well in advance. This year, their favorite guy went early, and after that, no one expected the Seahawks to take Witherspoon. The Lions wanted him, and when he went, they very easily could have been caught with their pants down and taken Gonzalez or otherwise panicked to take someone they weren’t 100% on. Instead, he adapted and traded with the Cardinals (a team he didn’t even know could be looking to trade up when the night began). Beyond the first round, Holmes knew who he wanted, recognized when value was dropping, and played the board like a mastermind to get his guys. That’s not to say his guys will work, obviously I hope they do (even if I question the DT pick), but it’s just to say I think he got guys he wanted to get, and was in control the entire time. The Eagles are getting universal praise for their haul, which is deserved, but it’s not like Howie Roseman had to work that hard for what he got. They came in knowing that if Carter started falling they would move to get him. Nolan Smith fell into their laps. Sometimes dumb teams picking early make things easy for good teams picking late, and I think that’s what we saw the Eagles benefit from. OTOH, it seemed like the Jets and Giants were two teams that may have been caught with their pants down. I think the Jets wanted one of the three offensive linemen that went right before them, and when they were gone they panicked and took Will McDonald, rather than making something happen earlier and moving up, or making something happen and taking someone they love later on. Same for the Giants when they saw four straight WRs fly off the board.1 point

I don't think its fair to compare anybody to Carter since by all accounts he wasn't drafted because of off the field issues. I mean it's like alot of people are suddenly ignoring that and just treating him like there was no problem at all. Before the draft the media folks were talking about the risks involved with drafting him now they give the Eagles a victory lap for not only drafting him but trading up for him.1 point

Dingler is the most pivotal prospect in the Tigers system? It would be a boon to have him turn out well, but not sure I'd classify him that way myself.1 point

That's too bad. There probably was a measure of fool's gold here, but I was hoping Sacramento get past Golden State.1 point

I think the value argument is so ridiculous when you could shuffle the players around and improve the grade. If Branch / Hooker / Gibbs / Campbell / LaPorta would be an A, I don’t know why Gibbs / Campbell / LaPorta / Branch / Hooker should be a B. It’s not like they went crazy or off the board and took Tavai. They just picked their guys on their own priority.1 point

Kiper gives us a B and criticizes us for "reaching for need" yet every pre draft mock he did had us passing on superior prospects(according to his grades) for position of needs. Can't make this up.1 point

My father in law passed away yesterday from cancer, he was the finest man I have ever met. I will miss him. He was a huge Tigers fan and we went to a few games every year along with a few Caps games. He married his high school sweetheart and they were together for 59 years. He worked in sales and they kept him on until he was 78 years old because they knew they may have lost a few accounts if he left. My wife and I, and her brother, were going through pictures and scrapbooks for the visitation this week and found stuff going back to his youth. Just awesome stuff. His mother saved everything, we found pony league team pictures starting from when he was like 10 years old. And she saved numerous press papers of his baseball accomplishments. He was a very good player and would go on to coach Crestons baseball team for a few years. Attached are a couple of pictures of him from the newspapers that we found from the 50s. A side note, the news back then was much more local. Stories in the paper I saw were about a man who had his fence destroyed by an automobile. A depressed mother attempted suicide. And lots of stuff on high school sports. I know somewhere Al is young again and playing baseball. That is him on the far right in the team picture.1 point

If Cabrera is playing for marketing reasons, then I would imagine fans are also excited about seeing Verlander and Scherzer. Most fans are a lot different from people here. Personally, I still like seeing Verlander and Scherzer, but wouldn't enjoy seeing them beat the Tigers.1 point

Setting aside the bullet to the head, one walk through the Lincoln Library in Springfield dispels this notion... he faced probably more vitriol than any other President and it isn't close.1 point

It's baby steps really, this is an org that hasn't produced much of any talent for a long time, save a few outliers like Fryman, Verlander, Castellanos, etc. People get hung up on the First Round picks and Top 100 rankings, but we will really know they have made it when they can produce major league ballplayers out of players who are neither. Like the Guardians or Rays or Cards.1 point

I don't like the idea of Sudfeld as QB2. I don't think he's above replacement level and I want Hooker to redshirt 2023, healthy or not.1 point

According to NFL.com, Chiefs got a B+ for taking Mahomes. Cleveland got an A for trading back and not drafting Watson and taking Jabril Peppers and Deshone Kizer.1 point
