The only one I ever remember is Cesar Gutierrez had a 7 for 7 in 12 innings in 1970, which was just about a whole season's offense for him!5 points

We're not waiting for power from Tork, just a little adjustment in elevation - he already hits the ball plenty hard enough to put in the seats. But I don't want to be too impatient. Hitters develop. He's just come off a pretty disappointing season. Let him get his on-base tools working consistently. Once he's a more comfortable and experienced hitter that little additional lift will probably come naturally as his timing gets better. The one thing I don't want anyone to do is mess with his swing - it's a thing of beauty as it is.3 points

It may have been a misreading of Paredes' talent, but I don't think it was a panic move I get the feeling the Tigers didn't regard Paredes highly for whatever reason. He seemed ready to be given a major league opportunity and they seemed reluctant to give it to him. I don't think Meadows power was clearly on the decline since he hit for pretty good power in 2021. I would have been very happy with 27 home runs from him again in 20222 points

I used to love getting home from school and watching the Cubs on WGN or the Braves on TBS. There was a time where they were on virtually every day and I got to watch them more than the Tigers. Kinda surprised I never took to either team considering the exposure to them.2 points

I'm confused. Does the father live on the "southside" ? What is he doing in Naperville? Why are they interviewing people in Naperville about Chicago politics? What's with the Tigers' cap on a guy from Chicago's southside who happened to wander into Naperville. Is it actually in Naperville or are they in the part of Aurora that pretends to be Napervilly. So many questions.2 points

I'm still not sure Parades wouldve ended up the same way here as he did with TB, after all he's not the first and certainly won't be the last player to play way better for them than they ever did or do elsewhere but assuming that's not the case then yeah his bat sure would look nice on this team right now.2 points

Yes, it’s time to get out of the lottery. They have Cunningham and Ivey in the back court, and Duren in the front court. They have the 5th, they have cap space, they have other movable pieces. It’s time to put a competitive team on the court.2 points

I mean, there's four guys on this roster aside from Schoop who can play a competent second base at the moment, so whoever theoretically gets called up or selected doesn't have to be a second baseman1 point

Lots of Monday morning QBing here I don't recall many posts of that. Most were OK trading for an all-star and didn't think it was just a panic move cause Riley got hurt. He had under a .600 OPS for us and most believed the trade was OK because we had Tork and Candy set to play the corners.1 point

And the Blackhawks couldn't get any fans to the arena before being gifted Kane and Toews in the draft, crazy how people are more willing to support the teams when they're playing well!!!!!1 point

Then you'll be happy to hear that the Hurricanes now have one of the best fanbases in the league. I was even in the area in the offseason and Hurricanes love was everywhere. Just because they don't play in Toronto doesn't mean they don't have a good fanbase.1 point

Maybe Madden? I wouldn't give up all on Flores yet - but it's sure nothing like it was a couple of years ago when Manning, Mize, Skubal and Faedo were all on their way up.1 point

Two of my best non playoff game highlights were the games 2 weeks apart in May 2013 where he struck out 17 and then took a no hitter to 1 out in the ninth. Seems like a good guy and I also recall one very good game near the end of his Tigers career. Glad he got a ring.1 point

I wonder if Riley doesnt break his foot do we still trade for Meadows? I think the team felt that our margin for error was very small when it came to making the playoffs so even though Riley was only going to be out a couple months max they had a sense of urgency to try compensate for that loss even if it wasn't going to be a major deal. I guess either way though Paredes was likely the odd man out in the orgs eyes and prob wouldve been traded at some point.1 point
-
Certainly the surprise it not what Paredes' value is - I don't think too many people doubted there was a decent hit tool there, the questions for Paredes had been whether he was going to outgrow the quickness he needed as an IF and whether his power would develop but there was always a decent probability for him. The crazy thing that has come out of the blue is Meadows. Unless Tampa was hiding something how could anybody have predicted what has happened to him when deciding to trade for him? It's just one of those weird outliers - basically our guy got run over by the beer truck. Where we are now doesn't really have much to do with the trade.1 point

Id have taken 77 before the year but now my hopes have raised and I'm shooting for .500 or atleast 80 wins. Its only a few games difference but it seems like a much bigger deal to say you're an 80 win team vs. 771 point

I can see that. The hardcore protestants think dancing is a sin (Footloose is real, people) so I also wondered if it was meant to convey a "safe" style of dancing, that wasn't devilish. The old joke, why don't baptists have sex standing up? Could lead to dancing1 point

A friend has all EGO equipment. Mower, snow blower, weed trimmer, and hedge clippers. He raves about them all. I would go that route if I cut my own grass. I have a bigger yard so I would need a zero turn but I see EGO even has one of those now.1 point

How about a medical study University of Utah: https://webpath.med.utah.edu/TUTORIAL/GUNS/GUNINJ.html#:~:text=Wounding is an extremely complex, even under controlled test conditions. The higher the velocity of the bullet, the more kinetic energy, and the greater the temporary cavity size, which may be more than 10 times the caliber of the bullet... Rifle bullets generally have a high velocity >2000 feet per second (fps), or >609.6 meters per second (mps), while bullets fired from handguns more typically have lower velocity. Bullets that traverse tissue without deformation or tumbling impart less kinetic energy and are more likely to exit the body. Or do you want a US Governmental study on the "Physics and Biophysics of Wound Ballistics" repeating everything I just said above? https://medcoeckapwstorprd01.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/pfw-images/borden/conventional-warfare/Chap4Pages1-12.pdf I'm not certain what NRA PROPAGANDA Archie is going to cite to try and refute this... nor do I care. Just know that I KNOW that how, when and with WHAT, an attempt is made to refute these studies that they are propaganda BS, pure and simple.1 point

Fragmentation is also a component of wound damage.. but is highly dependent on muzzle velocity. Too low a velocity drops the effectiveness of fragmentation wounding to almost nothing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56×45mm_NATO Fragmentation, if and when it occurs, imparts much greater damage to human tissue than bullet dimensions and velocities would suggest. This fragmentation effect is highly dependent on velocity, and therefore barrel length: short-barreled carbines generate less muzzle velocity and therefore lose wounding effectiveness at much shorter ranges than longer-barreled rifles. Here is the actual formula for kinetic energy (as you can see, Velocity is SQUARED... the higher the velocity, SQUARED, the MUCH HIGHER impact on kinetic energy than weight or anything else). Also, this is a forensics study that SPECIFICALLY talks about sonic damage ("shock wave") causing a larger stress cavity a point that I SPECIFICALLY made previously and Archie SPECIFICALLY refuted: https://www.whitemountainforensic.com/wound-ballistics-motion-effects-projectiles-human-body/ K.E. = W*V2/2g, where W = weight of the projectile V = velocity of the projectile g = gravitational acceleration What happens when a projectile impacts a human body? As the bullet enters the body it crushes and shreds tissue in its path – this creates a permanent cavity – the “bullet hole”. In addition, the energy of the impact is dissipated in a shock wave that radially flings surrounding tissue away from the path of the projectile, creating a cavity larger than the diameter of the bullet, this is the temporary stress cavity. The temporary stress cavity exists for around 5 to 10 milliseconds with a series of gradually smaller pulsations & contractions before the formation of a permanent wound track. The ultimate extent of the wound is determined by the kinetic energy on impact, extent of the temporary cavity and the amount of bullet fragmentation. Do you prefer a report on high velocity wound ballistics by the Police instead (this report attributes damage more to yaw than velocity, but yaw does not occur without the velocity, similar to fragmentation)? https://www.police1.com/police-products/firearms/articles/wound-ballistics-of-high-velocity-cartridges-3X2LZRf2FslJbLsF/ Wound ballistics of high-velocity cartridges The 5.56 x 45 mm cartridge fired from the M-16 rifle series (including the AR-15) is a 55 (or 62) grain bullet roughly three times the speed of modern handgun rounds. Dr. Vincent DiMaio, a renowned expert in wound ballistics, says ... that when a full metal jacketed 5.56/.223 round contacts human tissue it will travel along a circular path while beginning to yaw or turn sideways. This turning effect will become significant at 12 cm (approximately 4.7 inches). At the point of maximum yaw, the bullet will be turned at a 90-degree angle as it moves forward in the body. If the bullet remains intact, it will yaw to 180 degrees and continue to travel base first until it comes to rest. Handgun rounds do not yaw while traveling through human tissue. This turning or yaw effect releases tremendous kinetic energy into the tissue surrounding the permanent cavity created by direct bullet contact with human tissue. Not only is the permanent cavity larger due to the sideways path of the bullet, thereby destroying more tissue through direct bullet contact, but the surrounding tissue, i.e., tissue not directly touched by the bullet, is severely impacted as well. This surrounding tissue is called the temporary wound cavity. DiMaio reports that this temporary cavity will have a diameter from 11 to 12.5 times the diameter of the bullet itself. Damage to the tissue in the temporary cavity will include “severe…compression, stretching, and shearing of the displaced tissue. Injuries to blood vessels, nerves, or organs not struck by the bullet, and at a distance from the [bullet] path can occur.”1 point

This is 100% accurate. Fans will read whatever they want onto it, but the Occam's Razor explanation is that Eduardo had to deal with something absolutely hellish in nature family wise last year and, whatever that issue is, it has been dealt with and he's back performing and contibuting. And it's not just DD or Petry either, his actual teammates are currently heaping praise onto him (such as Riley Greene yesterday)... I'm pretty sure I have seen quotes from the other starters (Wentz for sure) about how they are learning from him as well. Scott Harris had an appearance on MLB Network yesterday where he was praising him. It's not like this is "fans seeing what they want to see", he legitimately looks like he's in a better place and contributing this year. That doesn't mean that he's gonna stick around or that Harris won't use him as a trade chip, but just as Eduardo appears to have moved on from whatever happened last year, maybe the fanbase should as well.1 point
