  1. That makes me four for four! “I would not expect to sign any position-player free agents until after we start playing spring training games. I'm fairly confident we'll get somebody, but probably not a somebody that anybody here really wants on the team as of today. It's going to be somebody we're not talking about now, and who comes here because he needs a job. Think along the lines of Johan Comargo or Cesar Hernandez or Jonathan Davis or Jake Marisnick.”

  3. It’s shifted how we buy groceries now. We do the meijer or Kroger pick up thing for non perishables and other week go week items on Thursdays . Hit our local fruit market for fruits, veggies, meats on Sunday . And we have an Aldi close by. We have turned one pain in the ass trip into two or three quick hassle free. Better for our sanity. We also have a middle eastern market within walking distance for quick things we might have run out of. I like going there because I always see something I haven’t before.

  4. It’s Ozzie Virgil. His name popped into my head, I did a quick image search, and this one really stuck out to me. I don’t put a whole lot of time or thought into game thread photos. Obviously things like Opening Day and remembering estrepe are noteworthy. I like to tie in the opponent at times, I think that’s been obvious with some of the players that have shown up that have played for both franchises. I think you caught me on Dan Gladden last week. But besides that, it’s generally whatever comes to mind.

  7. Not sure if it's been mentioned but reading an article by Hollinger today and he mentioned that from what he hears teams were scared of Whitmore medicals(aside from his workouts as well), said teams may have saw something in his knee(s) that gave them trepidation.

  9. Flip side, I hate going Krogering to Mariano's (or "Krogerano's" as I like to call it) because they are continually SKU'ing out line items I've been buying for years. Gatorade G2? Gone. StarKist EVOO tuna? Gone. Siggi's Yogurt? It's now a third of the shelf space it once had so that's on its way out. The latest? Cascade dishwasher powder! CASCADE, FOR GOD'S SAKE! Literally the best-selling dishwasher detergent brand in America! They don't carry the powder anymore! Everything now is liquid or pod-based at twice-plus the price per wash. I challenge anyone to go to their local Kroger to see if you can find it. Over the past decade especially, America is becoming less and less the land of plenty we happily bullshirt ourselves into thinking of it as, and more and more the land of line consolidation and outright shortages. We can blame COVID for it all if we want, but really, it started long before COVID, which just accelerated the the slow-motion conditioning of the American consumer to expect less while paying more, while continuing to insist we're still the only land of milk and honey on the planet. We've already come to expect garbage customer service, so that's what they give us. They conditioning us to expect product shortages, too. This is especially true of middle-of-the-line items. Everything anymore seems to be either cheap off-brand or private label stuff, or fancy schmancy overpriced stuff, some of which is of dubious quality anyway. It's basically an allegory for the disappearance of the American middle class altogether. Here in the Land of Opportunity™, you either you got all the money, or you got nothing. </rant>

  10. One can only surmise that there is a volume of shoes left to drop on this episode - Imelda Marcos volume even.

  12. IDK, this feels more like Kabul 2021 where the insurgents just kept outkicking their coverage and the fall happened much sooner than expected. It really all depends on the will of Russian forces closer to Moscow...

  17. I did not personally contribute to putting Trump in power because I voted for Michelle Obama in 2016. Running up the score nationally makes no difference. He will still not win Illinois.

  20. It might look like an OK trade in hindsight. But at the time it was offered it is not a good deal IMO. First, you can't say it was Ausar for Hendricks + 2025 first round pick. You have to evaluate the trade using who is #5 on your board at the time. Because the guys 1-4 on your board might get picked 5, 6, 7, and 8 and now you are stuck with the #5 guy on your board. I don't even know who that would be for me. Ausar and Hendricks were 1 and 2 but who would I have at 5? Wallace? Lively? Black? ****? Those guys are less attractive to me than Hendricks and now I don't think I do the trade. Then the 2025 pick is going to be protected in some capacity. Probably top 10 at least if not total lottery protection. 2026 is Flagg/Boozer so bare minimum it will be top 2 protected because nobody is giving up a shot at one of those kids. The toss in Utah might not even be in the lottery in 2025 and that pick is less attractive.

  21. Peyton Graham and Luke Gold are starting to put together good numbers in Low A. Poor Cristian Santana has been struggling to keep his batting average above .100.

  22. Not saying I would have done this (and who knows what "stuff" is and whose 2025 pick that was and protections etc.) but lets assume that Sasser is there at 28 and the 2025 pick was Utah's. Would you take Thompson+Sasser or Hendricks+Sasser+31+Utah 2025 1st? Actually, I just talked myself into taking that trade. The Ausar pick better be a homerun because that's a tough trade package to turn down IMO.

  30. Thank you for putting this together. This is a very good overview of what was not done that other teams on average are doing. Imagine with the teams who are above that average are doing…
