In fairness you don't expect to get any value from a 19th round pick. DH or not the guys is providing incredible value for a 19th rounder.2 points

Has anyone noticed how Hinch is getting an absolute free pass in this thread for letting Candelario go?2 points

Why is Michael Fulmer being discussed in this conversation? He would be one of the worst members of this bullpen if he was still here. I get the "old friend" conversations about guys like Candy or Chafin, not Fulmer.1 point

Can't complain about 4-3 on this road trip. Now they need to come back home and knock out a 5-1 homestand before the All-Star break.1 point

Thanks. Not really much of a loss as it turned out. Holton replaced him for the league minimum and is cheap and controllable for a few more years, assuming he keeps his production up.1 point

It's all a game, but one might bet that the rigged stock market will follow the rigged fed numbers. Of course, it's best just to make a plan and stick with it, which is what I do 90% of the time.1 point

I think bullpen games, while a necessary evil, work in the teams best interest for that game. Relievers can go all out for an inning or two and the lineup only sees them once. Advantage to the pitchers. However, it’s clearly not a sustainable model based on roster size and most starting pitchers rarely going past 6-7 innings. When I see we have a bullpen game, I fully expect us to be in a great position to win the game.1 point

Not that Aldred wasn't terrible, but I do wonder how many 90's Tigers pitchers were hurt by horrible fielding behind them. Pitchers weren's striking out nearly as many back then, so having some combination of Cecil Fielder at first base, aging Tram/Lou up the middle, Mickey Tettleton at C/RF, Gibson in CF, etc.1 point

I don't know how much longer the Tigers can justify keeping Schoop around.1 point

We get our first look at Chet this Monday at 8PM. Salt Lake City and Sacramento summer leagues both start the 3rd. OKC is playing in one of them.1 point

It's really tempting to think about what could go right. There is the pitching, but on top of that Miggy is being productive, Torkelson is being productive and teasing more than that, Greene was on a 6 WAR pace before he went down, Rogers has solidified the catching, Vierling has been a steady presence. then again there are still land mines - Lange in particular. Still very hard to persuade yourself this team can suffer any kind of good luck.1 point

Not to steal Chas's thunder... I remember him strongly making the point that even at the very low end of his expected WAR that his expected salary (from arbitration) would actually be an underpay... I certainly agreed with that as projecting him at 1-ish WAR (IMO) was ridiculous... but I get it... because of 2022. But I think it was the 3 of us politely requesting the Tigers to hold onto Candy. Outside of us... I think there was a strong inclination to dump him. If memory serves that is...1 point

It's interesting that, for the most part, the countries with the happiest population are also the least publicly religious. They have religion in Denmark. They just keep it to themselves.1 point

Traditional triple crown categories for Ohtani 10th in wins, although 4 wins from first 2nd in SOs, 12 behind 8th in ERA, 0.52 behind 4th in AVG, .006 behind 1st in HR, 6 ahead 1st in RBI, 1 ahead If he stays healthy this will be the greatest season of all time for a baseball player.1 point

No matter how much he rakes at Toledo, don't be surprised in Keith is held down until he can maintain rookie eligibility. Unless the Tigers somehow find themselves in contention before then, that is. Reminder, he will need to be under 45 days of active (i.e. non-IL) service time and under 130 at-bats at season's end to be eligible for prospect lists and thus be able to net the Tigers a draft pick if he gets any award voting early on in his career. We are talking late August at the earliest. Patience...1 point

When I saw Malloy in ST, I was a bit surprised at his physique. He’s a bit stocky—I think full time DH is probably a few years out. I like the idea of Keith at 3B.1 point

The less than perfect lawn is actually a healthier lawn... and one way to prevent grass from turning brown in the event of a drought is to let it grow longer. Don't even get me started on overuse of pesticides and herbicides.1 point

FYI, this is the chart from last month's year-over-year inflation report: The bottom line number came in at 4%, and as we can see, almost a third of that is tied up in last June alone, which is now 12 months ago. Once that month falls off the year-over-year period with next month's report, there's a good chance the overall number is going to come in at two-point-something, which is gonna make everyone throw their hats up into the air and shout "huzzah!" Well, at least those of us over sixty. 😁 I might increase my positions in some stock indexes before then.1 point

I have noticed that there is a noticeable difference in fielding between the lower levels, upper levels and the majors. The strong fielders stand out to me as much as the strong hitters and pitchers.1 point

OBP is exceptionally misleading in the complex leagues, particularly the DSL, because the caliber of pitching is so wildly variable. Frankly, stats of any kind at that level of affiliated ball are borderline meaningless.1 point

What a terrifying and unique horror movie. There is truly nothing like Skinamarink. If you watch it you'll either think it was the most innovative and terrifying film you've ever watched or think it is flat out stupid.1 point
