  1. No doubt he had fallen off as his health failed and Dickerson had to do a lot of covering but the two of them together even with Jim at half speed was still a better broadcast than all the people they have tried other than Dirks.

  2. Would be nice if we could get this this Torkelson and this Manning for a whole season.

  4. Is it too much to ask our manager to chirp just a little to defend his player after such a blatant bad call..

  5. That was without question so far outside that the umpire should have to make a public apology.

  9. Red Sox with only 1 k and the tigers have 11, yet here we are winning 5 -1. Curious game, this baseball.

  11. If you take Torkelson's HR rate for the season, it's about 1 per 27PA, but in the last 3 months he now better than 1 per 20PA.

  12. Ty Madden has multiple family members that work in law enforcement so that's why he hasn't been called up. Too risky for Deuce.

  13. I wonder how much difference you would see at AAA between a great and a poor farm system. I figure it goes something like this: A good development system delivers 2 major leaguers per season. Lets take a simple 2:1 loss rate at each level in the minors - that's four serious prospects need to get to AAA each year, 8 need to get to AA each year and 16 to A ball. Since between a 20 round draft and the internation signings a team does take in maybe just under 32 new players each year - so 2:1 math at each level works out pretty close to the overall system average. So, long story short, most of the guys at AAA are still going to be organizational fill and hangers on with no chance of making the majors. That's going to be true whether it's a lousy system sending one guy to the majors each year, or a great system sending 3. The impact at AAA is still isn't that big a part of the roster. I suppose in a better system the failures might be better - i.e. more 4 A players?

  14. Adduci is doing back round checks on all the potential call ups, once he finishes that then they'll announce the promotions.

  15. Chapman is probably aiming for a Kris Bryant pay day, 7/182M. maybe he falls short of that, but 6/150 seems reachable for him. Chapman is really, really good, and will be coming off a 5+ WAR season. also insanely consistent. per FG, his offense, defense and baserunning have all been assets every year of his career. rare that a player does not have a down year. he would be a great add. but hard to see Tigers with the wining bid

  25. Today is Gates Brown day. On this day in 1968 Brown won both ends of a double header by hitting a pinch hit home run in the 14th inning of game one, then singling in the 9th inning to win game two to defeat Boston.

  26. Meadows in Center, Greene goes to left. At COPA, left is the field that needs more speed to cover. Riley has good OF speed but no arm so he is perfect for LF at COPA. I assume that since Malloy at least got an audition as a 3b, his arm would play in RF. Vierling's clearly does. Carpenter's is fair. Greene, Meadows, Vierling, 7-8-9 might be as good as some of the TB or Royals OFs of recent years. All that IF Meadows keeps hitting.

  27. It always scares the *** out of me when you have WR 1-3 return kicks. I am all for keeping them on the sideline unless on offense. I am good with this pending contract compensation.

  29. What I liked though is how he brought up how Gerrit Cole(like prime JV) has managed to stay healthy because he picks his spots when he wants to dial it up, unlike Degrom who would throw 102 from the opening pitch and in turn has been injured constantly. So even though he may emulate or compare to DeGrom stuff wise he seems to be wise enough to know that pitching like him isn't the best thing health wise.

  30. Yeah, I don't think Harris is getting enough credit for taking the arrows on this. Obviously some will come back and say "he shouldn't get credit, that's his job".... OTOH, his predecessor was fine with making excuses.
