There's an excellent interview of Harris by Johnny Kane on this month's Inside Tigers, if you get a chance to catch it on Ballys, or you can watch it here... https://www.motowntigers.com/2023/09/09/inside-the-tigers-progression/2 points

Some general thoughts on the game and Arrowhead: Arrowhead was great and I would definitely recommend it to football fans. It definitely gives off something of a college football feel to an NFL stadium. Maybe it's because I was in the upper deck, but I will say that I didn't personally think it was that loud. It definitely got loud when it mattered, but I found myself saying "Ford Field can beat this", which I think they can (and maybe will next Sunday), but I am also biased... I think an indoor stadium (particularly the way Ford Field's roof is designed) is naturally inclined to provide a louder environment when it's rocking than an outdoor stadium. Though I also know the decibel records disagree with me. I also think there was a not insignificant number of Lions fans there. The speckles and seas of Honolulu Blue reminded me (sadly) of the days 5-10 years ago of The Game in Ann Arbor, where masses of scarlet would be painting the maize. But that tells you that there were a lot of us there. And at the end, you could definitely hear the "Let's Go Lions" chants. It was great. There were some less than great aspects, which come with older stadiums. The scoreboards could definitely use an upgrade/renovation. Compared to what I've grown used to, and what the standard has become in the NFL, those things felt tiny... Also, the fireworks rained ash down on us in the upper bowls every time they went off. Judging by the comments from season ticket holder Chief fans around us, this was not usual, so not sure if it was just an abnormal wind or something. It wasn't a huge deal either, but I think I did end up drinking a bit of firework with my beer. The truly incomparable part of the experience for me though was the people. Chiefs fans are the best opposing fans I have ever met, bar none. Now granted, I'm sure it's easier to be nice when you're playing an out-of-conference lovable opponent after hosting five straight AFC Championship games and winning the Super Bowl. At the same time though, every fan I encountered was nothing but kind and welcoming. At the end of the game, as Goff took his final knee, the Chief fan behind us went out of his way to offer to take a picture of me and my friend. Truly phenomenal. Leaving the stadium, as I mentioned, I am sure many Lions fans came across as obnoxious with how boisterous we all were. But they remained kind and pleasant, making comments like "y'all go restore the roar now" and "hope to see you in Vegas". I didn't come across a single bad apple. Others have kind of beat the horse dead related to the game. I concur with everyone though. I think we brought a C+ performance and were still able to pull off the win, which is what good teams can do! I was very encouraged by the second-half defense and I think the offense is going to get things going in time. I thought Dan Campbell called a great game. I actually called the shot on the fake punt, which made everyone around us think there must be something in the water up here. The only thing I disagreed with was punting on the -40. I get that we don't have a Justin Tucker who can make a 57-yard field goal. Outside of getting someone who can though, I think we are better off going for it there than handing the ball to Mahomes, knowing that he can get the 30 yards back in one play, with ease. It worked out though. The officiating blunders were obvious from the upper bowl by the way, multiple times I saw the RT moving early and was calling it out, before even knowing that everyone across the country was seeing it too. I'm really looking forward to the Seahawks game. Ford Field is going to be absolutely electric in a way I don't think Ford Field will have ever experienced.2 points

Jamaal Williams runs 11 yards for a first down to ice their game against the Titans, then fumbles the ball, but is lucky enough to get it back. Finishes his first game out of Detroit with 18 carries for 45 yards, no scores. Before the last play of the game he was at 17 carries for 34 yards. Not so great away from the Detroit offensive line.1 point

This is what makes me okay with having Gibbs on a pitch count with Montgomery. Monty has shown NFL durability, he can take a licking and keep on ticking. The plan for Gibbs is that he is going to be performing at a high level for 17... 18.... 19.... 20?!? games. Need to keep him fresh, no need to just create a Swift 2.0.1 point

How about all those one score games for the Vikings. Not this year. 0-1 looks great.1 point

first of all, counselor, its a usa today article meant to expose tucker. and youre condensing 1200 pages of a one sided investigation into 3 pages for a general audience who only wants the salacious details. as you know, if tucker files a lawsuit she will be deposed by someone asking questions designed to bring tucker's side to the forefront. investigators will be hired to talk to any person she's dated for a long time. once youre talking about $80 million it will become a dirty business indeed (and tucker's past history will also be fair game). for people who are involved in the litigation game, we should know better than to jump to conclusions about what actually happened or to take what is published in the papers (usually leaked by plaintiff's attorneys but not likely here) as "truth" or "the whole truth." in other words, i dont know what happened with mel. sounds to me like he fell in lust with some lady and took it to places she didnt want it to go. that's the most favorable reading for mel. it could also be he is just another dude who interprets friendliness as "lets have sex" and then he stalked her and harassed her. regardless, she says it was unwelcome and made a complaint. he admitted to the behavior. given msu's recent history, the next likely step is that he's fired for cause and he files a lawsuit against the university and they settle.1 point

You don't know how many of this years starting pitchers will be both good and healthy next year. Based on past track record, I'll guess some of them won't be. I think they will need another starter even if Rodriguez stays.1 point

The game has changed in that players are getting more rest days and spending more time on the DL. Thus, depth has become more important. However, I agree that there is nothing virtuous about putting together a roster of guys that play all different positions and havin not set roles. Platoons are great when it's Champ Summers and John Wockenfuss at designated hitter on a consistent basis, not so great when you've got a different second baseman and third baseman every day and none of them are elite fielders or hitting enough to be starters. The Athletics had a revolving door at second base in the 70s because they didn't have anyone who could play every day, not because they wanted it that way. It shouldn't be any different today.1 point

Why are we assuming permanent roles for players based on their snap counts for a single game? Different teams will call for different player packages.1 point

I had some at a tailgate before the game and didn't eat at the stadium (I never left my seats once the game started). I did see some being eaten by people nearby that sure looked and smelled authentic.1 point

If this was just a staffer, or a senior assistant, or some random fling by Tucker, it would be incredibly embarrassing for the school, and fireable if the sexual harassment allegations were sustained. This is a woman who was brutally sexually assaulted by four members of the Oregon State football team in 1998. She goes to schools around the country, speaking to student-athletes, mostly football teams, about how to be good teammates and good men, and how to ensure that sexual assault and sexual harassment do not become a part of the culture, and how to react if a situation of sexual assault presents itself. In 2017, in the very infancy of the #MeToo movement, I had the privilege of listening to Brenda talk to a group of student-athletes and band members on my undergraduate campus. She was impassioned, serious, and devoted her life to sexual harassment prevention. Even if we take everything Tucker said at face value, bad judgement doesn't even begin to describe the idiocy of his actions. Do you really think this woman, nearly 25 years after her attack, after spending many of those years combatting sexual harassment and sexual assault on college campuses, is going to enter into a consensual relationship with a head football coach? Even if you think the answer is somehow yes, do you really think that is at all even remotely a good idea? I would be shocked if Tucker survives the week, but it blows my mind that he coached yesterday. For a school that paid out $500 million in settlements for Nassar, you would think they would learn something - anything at all - about taking allegations against people in power seriously. The allegations were made in April 2022. The second Tucker admitted to having phone sex with her, he should have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an expedited investigation... Instead, Michigan State has allowed USA Today and ESPN to run with this story 17 months later, catching them on their heels anyway. For WHAT?? And MSU sure better hope that this was a one-time thing with one person, because personally, I doubt it.1 point

This is the ironic part isn't it? That State was already on the road to buyer's remorse with Tucker anyway.1 point

This isn't some unknown person who comes out of the woodwork to make wild accusations against someone. This woman travels the country giving talks and rubs elbows will all sorts of rich and powerful people. If she was the type to make up false allegations looking for a payday or exposure, she could have done so a hundred times before she ever met Mel. Mel is a sweaty pervert and is going down!1 point

I count 5 every day players already including Meadows. That leaves 2B, 3B, and one more OF/DH (Malloy is first in line). Maybe Keith can fill a hole at 2B or 3B. I don't think that "the game has changed" very much at all. GM's are still looking for every day players, and "chess pieces" are the unfortunate compromise when drafting and developing is done poorly. Good teams don't have a bunch of guys who play 6 positions.1 point

Things get worse for MSU with every hour that goes by with Mel Tucker not being suspended from his duties. Being accused of sexual harassment by the person that you hired to teach your team about sexual harassment is idiotic enough but this is the foremost expert on the subject within the college football community. She’s been hired and on site at at least half the programs in D1 and knows just about everyone in the college coaching profession. This is such a poor lapse in judgment and not something that MSU can look past especially with their recent history. I feel bad for Mel’s wife. That’s a lot of divorce money that she’s not going to see when MSU claws back $70M of his contract. Um, not quite. You don’t know so it’s cool.1 point

its "he said she said." he says it eas consensual and she says it wasnt. he's going to lose. he's likely going to get fired. we'll all be able to make fun of michigan state again and bonghit will be there to somehow make it about michigan. dont worry.1 point

Mel Tucker is done. What an absolute moron. Getting involved with her is one of the dumbest decisions he could make. Goodbye 95M contract and so long the hope of ever head coaching again. The only way anyone could survive this is if they were coaching at Michigan.1 point

If I didn't know better I'd think you hit on her and she turned you down. It comes across as obsessive. I love her as governor and hope she runs for Senate. She and some of our other prominent female leaders in this state are models of how the country would be better run by women. I firmly believe that. I don't know if her background would pass inspection from a national search. I have no inside dope or anything but there might be some skeletons best left hidden. Who knows...just a hunch I have.1 point

Without any deep analysis I just go by my gut and say that it's been a lot of fun watching the team this year. The good times feel legitimate and earned. The bad times exist but it's easy to think there'd be fewer of them with some tweaks that he should be capable of doing. They aren't THAT much better but I feel like I am watching more of the future than just retreads. Rather than go on about individual deals or non deals it's better to take a macro view. Expecting him to pull an expedited Dombrowski and get the team to the WS in one year rather than 3-4 is unreasonable. Not saying anybody here is doing that but some on twitter already make fun of him and think he's in over his head. Absurd. I'd say a solid B. It's probably an easy B considering the state but that's the reality.1 point
