Yeah, if somebody needs a year to know what they have in today's information age, that's a problem. I could see the "well, let's see how players improve with different processes in place" line though.

I don't really understand the argument that he has to see what he has for a year before making moves. He has all the stats, videos and scouting reports he wants on demand. He knew what he had in terms of players. I can see the argument that he was focused on making off-field organizational changes and wanted get that all in place before making big moves.

What an emotional final game! After an 0-for-3 start and a BS four-pitch walk in his last trip to the plate, Miggy surprises us all with one final appearance at first base, and two pitches in gets the 3-unassisted, and walks off on top. What a beautiful ending to an inner-circle Hall of Fame career that will culminate in another Olde English D enshrined in Cooperstown. Tigers finish the season 78-84, and in full possession of second place, capped off by a nice little 18-10 run. I think they did better this season than the vast majority of people thought they might. They certainly beat my own preseason prediction of 75 wins pretty nicely. I would say that, despite the complaints and objections voiced throughout the season, Scott Harris's first season was a pretty solid success. Let's spend the next six months posting endlessly about what he must, I mean absolutely must, do this offseason to win this division next year and then every year after that for the rest of all of our lives.

My guess is that he approached this year as an assessment year and probably wanted to get a feel for this org before making really big moves.

My assumption: Miggy remains in the game until he gets on base then pull him for a pinch-runner. If he doesn't get on base, they put him on 1st in the 9th for a batter or two then pull him.

Denver defense literally allowed Fields to have one of the greatest QB performances imaginable for 55 minutes then when it counted he fumbled, committed an intentional grounding penalty, and threw a game losing INT. Classic. 😂

Boston desperately needed to add a PG. Tatum is not a good creator for others and you cant go another playoff year where Brown turns it over 6 times a game. Holiday can fill that role and he shoots well while playing elite defense on the perimeter. Boston has a nice lineup 1-5 but not a lot of depth, especially at C. They just signed Wenyen Gabriel to a deal but maybe they are looking for someone else and Detroit could push Bagley off on them.

At the high school level they already have something like that. It goes on the officials’ waist and vibrates at 10 seconds and then continuously from 5 to 0, so when it shuts off they know time is up. At the NFL level I’m not sure why they can’t synchronize something like that with the on-field clock so that there is no looking from zero to ball, it’s just looking at ball, feeling vibration, flag.

It feels like the play clock should just have some sort of buzzer associated with it. Not sure why the shot clock in the NBA is treated so vastly differently than the play clock in the NFL. The whole “40 seconds isn’t really 40 seconds” philosophy of giving them extra time between the back judge seeing zero and looking for the snap never made sense to me. I don’t want that to devolve into five reviews per game though, because usually it’s not an issue. Only when they give them an extra two seconds to setup an NFL record field goal against the Lions. The game clock though, that should just be reviewable. If they can look at a play and adjust the game clock accordingly, they should be able to look at a play for the purposes of the game clock and determine that the snap shouldn’t have occurred. Games shouldn’t last 60:01 because that extra second can make a huge difference.

Could you imagine Miggy getting hooked for arguing in his last game? - if anyone could do that, it would be Angel - who should be working his last game today. Don't care about their union, it's time to finally do the right thing here. I think umpire performances should be evaluated like players, coaches and GMs. Why should they be totally untouchable? The vast majority of them would have nothing to worry about, but there's always the 1 to 3 that have no business being at this level. These guys are like Supreme Court Justices and they shouldn't be.
