  1. I assume the Tigers will go after FAs they want to go after, regardless of who their agent is

  2. yeah that's a good point. I view it as stories about 100 of the most prominent players, not necessarily the best. I almost didn't buy it because I figured "I am not interested in an encyclopedia version" but it's not that at all. I've always enjoyed reading him and for some reason he fell off my radar over time. His section on Schillling was very very good. Another tidbit that stood out was on Neikro. When the scout finally came to sign Phil he said something like "We'd like to sign your son for a $500 signing bonus". HIs dad says "I'm sorry sir but I'm a coal miner, we don't have that kind of money".

  3. Hate to break it to you this roster is full of crap players

  4. The free agent class is terrible. But there should be opportunity to find a team that wants to cut payroll and take a big contract off their hands to fill in offensive gaps.

  5. Jamo, Paschel and Levi havent produced yet as 1st or 2nd rounders either so its not like every early pick he gets is a guaranteed home run.

  6. Probably. It will look different, with naval assets involved. The big question to me is what happens if Iran ends up holding a smoking gun? THEN our involvement may look VERY different.

  7. I feel like I’m arguing with my wife. My point, which I believe I made, is that we should not enter into bad contracts in free agency just because we have the payroll. And to think I was going to ask you to grab a beer at a Pit Spitters game next season when I’m in Glen Arbor.

  8. The first step of building a team from nothing is different from taking the final step to championship level. You use your draft picks in the draft when building because you need as much cost-effective talent as possible to build your core. Holmes has completed that step, as well as the second step of surrounding that core with quality depth. We're now at the final step where one or two great pieces can put your team over the top to be legitimate SB contenders. I'm not saying to go all Eff Them Picks, but eff some of them if it gets you a stud at an important position.

  9. You don't know what type of players they will be. Nobody does. Counting on all of our prospects being successful is not a winning strategy.

  11. Which teams have roster crunches and may have some guys on the back of the roster worth nabbing off waivers or a cash deal? The next Eddys Leonard? Those are going to be your transactions between now and the end of November.

  13. Absolutely buyers. You only get so many chances at a Superbowl run so take full advantage of it. I don't think they should sell the farm or anything like that but 3rd-5th round picks should be on the table to bring in solid players. If they want to shoot for the moon, and I doubt he's available, Maxx Crosby is a name that highly interests me. Gamewrecker in the trenches, still young and locked up long term, Michigan guy, definitely has that Detroit/Dan Campbell mentality. The cost would be crazy but if they go that route of big **** swinging move, he's the guy I'd shoot for. They'd have arguably the best offensive and defensive line in the league if they made that move, add in a top 5-8 QB which is what Goff is and you have instant SB contender.

  14. "That" changes each and every year. Or close to it. Don't act like there's ONE way and ONLY one way to build a championship level team.

  17. My point about the draft picks. That was a damn good haul because he had a lot of bullets. Meanwhile in the Matt Millen era it was the scene in Predator where Bill Duke shoots up the jungle with the mini-gun. The evidence is that Brad Holmes knows the trade game (Stafford for Goff and a billion picks). Perhaps he can also get trade deadline talent with impact. The injury rate in pro-football makes all these guys commodities with the exception of QBs.

  19. would you rather have jamo and levi or maxx crosby? its ok to trade a pick or two to get a bonafide superstar.

  20. Consider the impact of the draft class we just had. I want this GM to have as many picks as possible.

  22. As we stand here today, there are not a lot of obvious holes on this team. The defensive backfield seems like it should be one with the absence of CJGJ and now Moseley, but Jerry Jacobs and Will Harris are playing outside of their minds after being forced into action. You can't complain with what they're bringing to the table. Defensive tackle was expected to be a weakness on this team, but it's turned into a strength with the #1 rush defense in the league. Wide receiver seemed to be possibly lacking in depth too, but they just put up 42 points while missing their WR1 and RB2. I'm sure Holmes will be active and make a move if there is a smart one out there to make us better, but he's not going to mortgage the future for it. We aren't some old team with a narrow window.

  24. LOL Too much old baseball in my head. I've done a ton of research on players who had a very brief time in the show. That helps a ton with players who have a lifetime .300 avg or hit .300 in a season. When the Rockies came into the league, Topps made cards of all the players they had drafted from the other teams. For some reason, I have a photographic memory of baseball cards.
