  1. These cease fire protesters are simply idiots. They act like Joe Biden is running the show. They never mention the Hamas hostages. They never mention Hamas. To many of them Hamas are freedom fighters. To many of them Oct 7 didn't even happen. You can't reason with that kind of stupidity

  2. Why don't progressives just tell Palestinians to hand over Gaza to keep peace since they are going to lose to Israel like they tell Ukraine to just hand over territory to Russia? How does a ceasefire work when Hamas has broken every ceasefire and continues to state publicly they will attack Israel?

  3. I just can't imagine if a bunch of Canadians parachuted into Lollapalooza and raped and beheaded thousands of people, pillaged the southside of Chicago burning people out of their homes, parading their corpses in the streets, and took a couple hundred hostages back to Canada that people wouldn't be demanding the US go into Canada and smoke all these terrorists out of whatever hole they are hiding in.

  4. Not to mention they still hold 100 hostages. Not sure how you talk about a ceasefire under these terms. It’s sad that innocent Palistinians are caught in the crossfire, but thats on Hamas more than Israel.

  5. The main thing I don't love about warm west coast cities is that they do not have warm nights. It can get pretty gross here in Big Shoulders in July, but there's nothing like 84 degrees at 830pm when I'm sitting on my deck with a rum on the rocks, a Padron 2000 Maduro, and an OOTP team to work on.

  6. Scale doesn't count. What was our response to 3K dead on 9/11? A Global War on Terror? And...? The rest of it is... you going down some rabbit holes. I'm not trying to be mean... it's just that you're going into what you believe we should/ should not have done, you'd do things differently, were we justified or not, etc., etc. I'm taking a much simpler approach: If my country is subjected to a terrorist attack, I am going to respond. If it entails a military response to the inclusion of an invasion, civilian casualty count is not the primary concern. I'm not saying that it's NOT a concern, it is, hence measures to mitigate civilian casualties. But the PRIMARY concern is to eliminate the threat. I brought in Hitler and Japan only for that point. Obviously, the scale of the threat as well as the scale of casualties were exponentially higher. But the simple matter was to stop them, regardless of casualty counts. Am I right? Same with Bin Laden, regardless of whether we took over Afghanistan or sent search & destroy teams... the PRIMARY concern is to stop the threat, no matter what it takes. The firebombing of Tokyo? Estimated 100K dead. Was that justified as a proportional response? How many dead in the fire bombing of Dresden? These aren't even nuclear attacks, which you mentioned with Japan... right? But let's not go down a rabbit hole again. The simple answers are: Israel is justified in responding to Hamas's terrorist attack. That came from GAZA. And Hamas (in Gaza) is made up of 100 (99?) % GAZANS. So GAZA made a terrorist attack against Israel. And... despite all the upset over Gazan civilian casualties... it's war. The NUMBER of casualties is NOT the primary concern. Israel protecting itself from further terrorist attacks from GAZANS IS the primary concern. And Israel HAS taken measures to reduce casualties, and open up humanitarian corridors, and a temporary ceasefire to allow in humanitarian aid... even if it was from US pressure... And... there are TWO simple and EASY remedies to reducing Gazan civilian casualties: (1) Hamas unconditional surrender. Or (2) Egypt opening up its border to Gazan refugees. Which would HAVE to be TEMPORARY in that Israel must complete it's military goals and then the international community needs to step up and rebuild Gaza, allow all the refugees to return, and then some governmental form needs to be implemented that allows Gazans to live normal lives, without being blockaded (I don't believe this is truly realizable... there will still be Gazan/ Hamas (or otherwise) terrorists and it's not just Israel... Egypt is just as reluctant to open its border to Gaza specifically because of this) AND Israel must get some guarantee or control (their demand) that terrorism will not be supported (by the government in Gaza specifically) or exported to Israel again. This obviously complicates things a lot. But if Gazans would just quit with the terrorism... Doesn't that open them up to more international relationships/ trading/ etc. then if Hamas is actively planning a terrorist attack against Israel? Isn't that planning the reason for a fence at the border with Israel/ a closed border with Israel/ etc.? That last part is very simple, at least it is to me anyways, as well: Stop terrorizing Israel = lead an independent and normal life in Gaza. In other words: Hamas blew it. I think I just went down some rabbit holes there...

  8. LOL they wanted to keep Cabrera. They couldn't pay him what the Tigers and other teams were able to pay. I also bet if money was equal, Cabrera would have preferred to stay in Florida.

  9. The difference is the NFL teams are not reliant on local TV contracts and markets. They also have a more stringent salary cap I believe. The Salary Cap is basically the TV money. The teams split that evenly, at the national level. And given the nature of the draft it's probably easier for bad teams to get good considering your top draft picks are very often impact players. I don't see it as better but I'm not a football guy. It brings me no special joy that KC wins over LA or NY. They both are not Detroit so who cares?

  10. Bohanna had a 50 PFF grade and no sacks. They would have had to cut someone from the active roster to keep him. They'll be fine.

  11. I trust that the team knows what they are doing with their budget a lot more than I do. If they have a high payroll, I assume that means they are going to maintain the high payroll in the future. If they sign Yamamoto (and I know there is little chance of that happening), I would assume that means they are going to be a high budget team which would be a good thing. I wouldn't assume that Harris was an idiot who made a stupid signing which is going to damage their future. Even if they sign a couple of Lorenzon level players to shorter contracts, I would take that as a sign that their budget is not tight. Again, I would view that as a positive.

  13. (1) Gaza had its OWN government. Not Israeli occupation. This point is irrelevant in the context of the current Gaza War. AFTERWARDS, Two-state may be brought up again in the context of the greater solution to Palestinian nation-state to include the West Bank. But GAZA was already independent PRIOR to them invading Israel with murderous intent. (2) Then why aren't we hearing a clamoring for this? Why does Egypt get a PASS for not opening its borders and it's ALL on Israel? I hear nothing, from anyone, in the way of criticism for not alleviating Gazan suffering by allowing them a temporary home outside of Gaza whilst Israel goes after the Hamas terrorists that butchered its citizens. THAT would reduce civilian casualties, would it not? (3) They already did. Look at the results. I don't care who governs Gaza, and neither does Israel. HOWEVER, whomever governs Gaza... Israel is ADAMENT that terrorists not be allowed into Gaza and are demanding control oversight or similar over such. And they have EVERY RIGHT to make that demand! Period. (4) Hamas must be wiped out, at least effectively, IMO. I don't do terrorism or butchery. But to declare Israel as "no matter the count" is BS. They've given multiple and ample warnings to areas that contain terrorist tunnels, terrorists, etc. Your statement here is disinformation, pure and simple. (5) Disagree 100%. The US has already brokered humanitarian aid and increases of such aid, has already pressured targeted campaigns in which Israel has COMPLIED, and Two-State is for AFTER Gaza, not a PART of the Gaza campaign. Sorry.

  14. Giolito is projected to be one of the more expense fixer upper guys. would prefer to pay more $$$ for more talent, or less $$$ for a Lorenzen type. but again, have to trust that they see something they like in whoever they sign

  15. I mean when you only play 17 games vs 162 you're naturally going to have more parity and teams in it. Just imagine what the MLB playoff race would look like if the season ended in Mid April instead of October.

  16. if embiid wants to try in this game, the pistons are dead. the hilarious thing about this team (one of them) is that weaver loves to collect centers yet the pistons have no one who can play defense on a traditional center. cause weaver sucks.

  20. Your Mom is my clone. I agree 100% with her observations, I could not have said them so well. Biden has a tough row to hoe here. As an example on the CBC news recently a Jewish couple from Toronto, leaders in their diaspora community, described how much anti-Semiic prejudice they were experiencing and as a result, more to the point, how much they hate Netanyahu. They hate Netanyahu, they freaking hate him. So Biden is on an island that is getting smaller and smaller, an island that the ultra-progressives have probably already abandoned.

  24. I want them to lock up Tork, Greene, Keith, Jung... whoever early before they hit arb. Buy out a couple years of FA. I doubt the Tigers will be anywhere near the CBT going forward, but getting those guys under contract does reduce their AAV later, so if we do start to butt up against the tax if things start going well, their AAV is averaged with some pre-arb and early arb years and not their current year salary. As an illustrative example, Alex Bregman's current deal included three pre- free agency years and is 5/100. 11, 11, 11, 28.5, 28.5. This year he makes 28.5 million, but his CBT number is 20 million. If the rebuild goes well, every little bit may help in that regard.

  25. I'm not sure the NFL has more parity or is better. It may be more popular because the season is shorter, condensed to one day, and more conducive to fantasy leagues. They have also mastered the art of publicity. I hesitate to say better; that is in the eye of the beholder, and this beholder couldn't give two ****s about the NFL.

  26. 7 franchises have won the last 10 super bowls, 9 franchises have won the last 10 world series, including the aforementioned Royals. It's apples and oranges anyway because you build the teams different. There's a lot more development and international work that goes on in MLB.
    1 point
  27. Yeah those are all reasons why the NFL is better than MLB. The thing is, if you do draft a player like the Chiefs did with Mahomes, New York and Los Angeles can't give him a massive deferred contract. They can pay him the same as what the Chiefs pay him. The Chiefs are rewarded for drafting well. If the Royals had drafted a player of Ohtani's caliber and spent the time developing him, he would have been traded because the Royals would know they can't keep him. It matters in the context of the Lions because they are equal with other teams. It means the Lions have just as good of chance of being one of the dominant teams in the league as any other team. Parity is what makes the NFL better.

  28. agree.... as a fan I have payroll fatigue. I'm tired of seeing guys out there just because we are paying them and they are under a big contract. I don't want to see any Justin Uptons or Jordan Zimmermans for awhile. Fans just think players are items on a shelf in a store and you pick up what you want and that's all there is to it. Or you can trade a couple of bad players for a good player because 3+3+3 = 9.
