  1. Jeez. That’s a bitter pill to digest, albeit a fair assessment of the current state of affairs. It saddens and depresses me, also, but I don’t feel like I want to throw up my hands and say “oh, well, it was a good run”. If not for myself, I think I need to keep fighting back for the generations behind me. I don’t want them to live in the kind of society that MAGA mindsets will doom them to. We have to - Keep fighting. We cannot go gently into that dark night. Not if you love your family and you know better than to accept this as normal.

  2. Ann Coulter was right.... our only hope is to see what happens when Trump dies. I used to enjoy politics like I enjoyed sports. I could detach from my own views and get into the spirit of who was beating who, what was a good point made, what is their strategy, etc. Analysis. That's all gone now. There is no shame by our politicians. There are no electoral penalties anymore. It all comes down to winning for your side and hurting the oppositon and certain groups. I'm not both sidesing this either. Democrats by and large want to govern. Republicans do not and don't care if you tell them that. They know that 47% of the voters will still vote for them and they have a gerrymandered and EC guaranteed shot at running every branch of government and plenty of states to prevent Constitutional Amendments they don't want. We'll never ever see another Constitutional Amendment.

  3. I'd argue it's not even the EC per se, but the population imbalance of the states - which creates an impact in the Senate at least as serious as the presidential elections. But even that is something that can be mitigated within the current Constitution. Admit DC as a state and increase the HOR to 500 and you'd mitigate something like half the current EC imbalance.

  4. In the abstract, there are quite a few decent candidates that could run on the D side. Whitmer and Shapiro from PA are the cream of the crop if you ask me. It's the "how do you get there from here" question that kinda derails the whole thought exercise. The reality is that if you do not want Biden to run, you have to come to terms with Kamala Harris being the nominee. And unsurprisingly, many of the same people (at least in media) who have complained about Biden running the most (Bill Kristol, Nate Silver, others come to mind), would ***** and moan about her being the nominee as well. I'm not saying he should run at this point, I've been concerned about his age and running for reelection for a while.... but lets not pretend that they could easily and bloodlessly meander their way to Candidate Whitmer.... that's a fairy tale.

  6. So pointless to try and determine which guy is the PG or primary ball handler. To be good you need at least two guys capable of it and it appears Detroit might have the beginnings of that. Encourage that and don't try an pigeonhole the young guys. They each have different strengths so play to them. Most defenses can not guard or take away multiple perimeter guys. Take Orlando the other night. Suggs is their defensive stopper outside and they chose to leave him on Cade when Cade/Suggs were on the court together. Let Ivey eat if they are going to defend him with Fultz and not double. They switch up the defensive coverage then switch up who is getting the plays called for them and go back to Cade. As much as I hate Zeke as a person, he was great at this. If Joe was going off, Zeke got out of the way and let Joe do his thing. Every game they would come down and go to Edwards in the post to start the game. If he hit that first shot, guess who got the ball on possession #2? Zeke found what worked and would pound the other team with it until they proved they could stop it. It changes from game to game and even quarter to quarter sometimes. Don't stick the ball in one guys hands and tell him to go be the lead dog. Embrace the fact you have two guys capable of it and then find a way to utilize it.

  9. regarding the soft support of Harris... that's conventional wisdom from the pundits. But is it true? I'm trying to determine who the voter is that's fine with Biden but not with Harris and will accept another 4 years of Trump over her. Who are these people?

  10. This past week has really gone a long way to shatter my view of where we are at collectively. Setting the Biden report aside, prior to that, the big story was the negotiation on the immigration bill, a negotiation that was done at the request of the current Speaker and, once finished, was torpedoed for *explicitly* political purposes. Like, Trump and others literally signaling that they did not want to see that through because it would be bad politics in an election year. What is the point of governing if 1/3rd of our government just collectively sits on their hands once every four years? Like, are we just paying these guys $174K/year to be high priced rodeo clowns during election years? I really don't know how you fix that.... especially if, as you suggest elsewhere in your post, 47% of the country are just OK with that or are entertained by that.

  15. Are you sure other candidates would jump in if Biden dropped out? Do you think Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer, JB Pritzker, etc. are going to want to burn political capital fighting out a bloody primary with an incumbent VP who would likely be endorsed by Biden and would have the support of the most important demographic in the party? And in all likelihood lose? It's not the party, it's the voters and it's the incentives for alternative candidates. You don't have to like it, I'm just engaging in reality here.

  16. I don't have a particular proclivity toward Harris, but it gets really frustrating to see people act like there's absolutely no cost to going around her status as incumbent VP in this current situation we find ourselves in. Frankly, it's delusional

  17. If Biden were to drop out today, Kamala Harris would be the nominee. Because the most important demographic in the party (ie. AA voters) would be firmly in her camp. Just as it was these same voters (along with those in the Iowa Caucus) who made it so for Obama. Nobody wants to admit this, but it's true. And, for whatever reason, if he were to drop out today and the party, to the extent that they could even control who ends up the nominee to begin with, were to force her to the side to run Whitmer or others, people either do not understand or are engaging in magical thinking about the **** show that would ensue. To the extent that incumbency advantage exists, that evaporates, and you'd likely ignite a civil war in the party.

  18. Maybe the Pistons analytic departments came up with an algorithm where Troy types in his proposed trade and sends it out but before the other team receives it the program changes it so it is the exact opposite of what he proposed.

  19. I always thought Biden was a weak candidate. The only reason he won in 2020 was because Trump was a joke and his incompetence was readily evident due to Covid. He is a very unpopular President and the Democrats are making a huge mistake letting him run uncontested.

  20. They probably should listen but the Raiders would immediately say no. You used logic and in doing so broke rule #1 when talking about the Raiders. If it makes sense to everyone else, they are probably doing something different.

  21. We need to find (draft) our own Maxx Crosby. Wasn't Crosby a 3rd rounder? Holmes could do that. I think I even spotted a potential Crosby floating around in the mock draft 2nd round this year... Chris Braswell seems like a Holmes/ DC type of guy...

  22. The weird thing is that it's based on arbitrary top 100 lists. There's really no difference between the 100th and 175th prospect. It's an opinion. And it's not an unbiased one.
