I believe he has about $40 million on option years from 2030-2032 and a chance for a big free agency payoff after that. He'll need to perform at a high level to get all that. Of course, the 28 million guaranteed will set him up for life and maybe that is good enough him. However, I tend to believe that most professional athletes have a competitive drive to be the best at what they do indepedent of money. Otherwise, they wouldn't have made it so far.4 points

So, again with the City Connects today. I thought they were supposed to be rare and special? Look, I admit I’m an old man, and I do like certain traditions, and I do whine when they are flouted, and I don’t feel any pride in being like that, but it is what it is. But I think it is fair to ask whether the Tigers are hurting their essential brand equity by wearing City Connects every day. The traditional uniform, and particularly the cap, are iconic brand symbols going back more than a century. I mean that literally—this is from 1923: (Don’t focus on the pinstripes on two of the guys. I can’t explain that.) So this is a well-established look, the look that’s been driving hundreds of millions, maybe even into the billions, of dollars in merchandise sales over the years, and continues to do so. And by wearing the City Connects every game, they are basically repudiating this look that they have, again, spent more than a century cultivating. I accept that City Connects are not going away and teams will continue wear them until they fall out of favor, which will hopefully be soon (although maybe not). But in the meantime, someone from the Tigers has got to step in and put a stop to players wearing them every. God. Damned. Home game. It’s too much, but more importantly, it hurts the essence of the brand.3 points

It’s hard to wait a few more years after having seven years of our life completely wasted. But wait we must. No one is getting fired a year and a half after the biggest change in this organization in at least two decades. Harris—and Hinch, like it or not—were brought in to change this team for the long term. If it were all about winning now and damn the costs, we’d be stealing Dombrowski back from the Phillies. So strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. If it doesn’t get better later, you can call me a liar.2 points

And for whatever reason, the two of them were spending a lot more time in non-game personal banter and camera in the booth stuff (toys/fgifts/food etc) than any of the other pairings, almost all of which could be deep-sixed IMHO. Maybe they were learning to get along, maybe it was forced --- don't care - don't need it.2 points

The team doesn’t want to keep fielding questions about him, although he wasn’t a particularly high-profile part of the team. I did post way back in March that I thought Craig was big-timing Benetti in the booth that first broadcast, stepping all over Benetti and hogging the mike and using what I thought was an alpha-jock-talking-to-nerd tone, and I do wonder whether that had any lingering effect on their working relationship.2 points

It’s not even about the actual W and L results. I was never expecting it to get better quick but we are almost halfway in and zero percent of his culture change is apparent. I do agree the Flaherty trade and any other deadline deals will be big indicators.1 point

he has 4 years to show something. like yzerman (and now langdon), he inherited a wasteland: the worst team with one of the worst farm systems left to him by his predecessor. check in in another year and a half and see where mcgonigle and clark are. see what he got for flaherty. see if Lee is in the majors or knocking on the door.1 point

I watch a lot of games since I bought the MLB app. What I find refreshing is other teams announcers actually call the game and they don't spend multiple innings giggling like 3rd graders.1 point

Gores is tough to stomach. I think if you had no clue who he was and met him, most of us would instantly dislike him. He talks and talks and says absolutely nothing.1 point

It was so strange to watch the Yankees Braves game on Apple TV last night. Everybody looked like they knew how to hit a baseball. You could read it in their body language when they walk to the plate like they had contact harbored in their bodies, waiting to be expressed through the barrel of the bat. I sometimes think our guys are afraid of the ball. They look tentative, not confident. Sometimes confidence is mere performativity, an act. But in the other game I watched last night, these guys all seemed to know what they were doing, and a lot of times our guys don’t.1 point

It was. I was thinking about the future. I only went there once after a game but it was for music so I wanted to see if it was a regular bar bar or a “only open when music” kind of bar. In the Woodbridge area by Trumbull and 94.1 point

People will want to blame it on Comerica - but the ballpark gave us two batting champions and and a triple crown in a lot fewer years than old Tiger Stadium, a supposed great hitters park, ever did. The biggest problem with Copa has been who's playing there.1 point

Adrian Beltre made 52 errors in his 1st two full seasons. If a guy has decent hands, decent reaction time and can throw accurately he's got a chance to become decent. If Keith was making bad throws or having balls clank off his glove with regularity I'd be more concerned, but unless they swap him back to third with Jace they should just let him work at 2b for a while. You don't want to throw in the towel and put anyone that young at 1st that still has any potential to hold some other spot since their bat will be a lot more valuable there.1 point

it was such a good trade they've won the least amount of games in the league since it was made. in the context of where the franchise was at the time and what it should be doing to move forward on a realistic timeline, sacrificing a first round pick for a role player at the beginning of a rebuild was not a smart trade. hopefully langdon can maximize the value of a guy like stewart rather than waiting to trade him for two second round picks two years from now.1 point

Yeah, I was fine with the deal when it happened and I still am. It’s low risk for an amount of money that’s not going to cripple us if it goes upside down, like, for instance, 8/248.1 point

Harvard and MIT have quite a few courses you can audit for free, I'm sure many others as well. Here are a few possible links or sites to check. https://www.edx.org/learn/government/harvard-university-american-government-constitutional-foundations https://www.classcentral.com/tag/constitutional-law This one is on the US Revolution, not directly related to what you seem interested in, but I found it while digging these up and plan on watching this. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeCFWdLZpnW97PCYqTm4e37ush6xgnJ_G https://online.hillsdale.edu/landing/intro-to-the-constitution?utm_medium=search_paid&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=online_courses_dsa_oc&utm_term=&utm_id=692119507807&utm_content=oc_course&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4Gpx5aGGkgQpDHBdf2FqmSSMdcUGF5r5y6g3EKHHCiiUw7CSxILQEhoC594QAvD_BwE https://www.coursera.org/1 point

I’m following this game on my phone, but I’m watching the Braves and the Yankees on Apple TV and I saw the Dontrelle Willis is now an announcer. Too bad he didn’t work out for us. He started his career in Boise, Idaho and for years he called his host family every week to talk to them because he got really close to them. He’s a cool guy. Once again it’s a shame he didn’t work out for us.1 point

That’s true. I learned the minimum in my Catholic grammar school. Learned a little more in h.s., but much of what you referred to - dates & places… However, the one world history class I took in college, covered the French Revolution and the American Revolution (& the professor was adamant with us that the French Revolution was so much more important to world history 🙂), THaT class was worth something, because of the discussions. I think if I could find the energy (I have free time, but not so much energy lately), I would like to audit a college level American history class.1 point

Maybe the worst thing that could have happened to Tork was to come up with Detroit at a time when they were desperate for the long ball, because he should have spent his time learning to be a better hitter, instead of spending all his effort trying to drive the ball into the seats. My guess is that the last 2 years actually set him back as a hitter, because now pitchers have figured out to just pitch him away and he had become stuck in a mode where he couldn't cope instead of having spent that time learning to actually "command" the zone.1 point
