Jeimer Candelario 0.9 (Free Agent) The fast solution just wasn't there, and I know that strategy appeases fanbases, but there is a reason fans aren't paid to run teams.

  2. I’ve been gone all night and didn’t see the game. I just looked at the box and, holy sh*t, Casey Mize. I just did a query, and Casey Mize is literally only the second guy in modern baseball history to strike out at least 10, walk nobody, give up at least nine hits, and do it all in 4-1/3 innings or less: https://stathead.com/tiny/JjwEf This is a very modern baseball thing to do. Nobody could have done this before the last ten or fifteen years, because of how the game has evolved.

  3. All an owner can do is hire people and let them do their job and spend when called upon and get rid of those executives when they show to not be doing their job. Has Chris not shown that ability? Yeah, he didnt "go after" Ohtani. Get real. On one hand people are complaining about Baez and his contract and on the other people are complaining about the owner being cheap. The team has made significant behind the scenes improvements and hired expensive people in the front office, the kind of hires that most fans would never know happened, and I throw in Jason Benetti in that conversation. If Chris just wanted to bank the cash from owning an ML team he wouldn't have approved those hires. Take a look at the media guide and you can see who they are.

  4. the thing is, if you are going to build a lineup with speed and contact skills, it can't have terrible holes in it, you need everyone to to at least average OBP so you have a decent chance of stringing things together once in a while. If you score using a lot of power, that's less important. If you look at the Tigers now, you see Keith and Perez with low K, potential for decent averages, if they develop a little more walk skill they could play on a team like that. And if Parker could hit for a little more average, his walk rate is usually decent and he has speed so there is another guy that moves you in that direction - if he can hit enough.

  5. Javy's defense isn't great this year. It isn't even particularly good. That's what's going to make it easier to cut him before we carve the turkey after the Lions game.

  6. They've got two more years of control on a cheap contract. Unless he gets hurt again, you bring him back and see if he can ever put it together.

  7. Turn it on right into time for Riley's RBI triple, since I missed the offensive explosion the other day I legit think this is the first run I have actually witnessed them score in atleast a week. Feels good!

  8. As much as people want to give Al Avila equal (or even more!) credit for the eventual revival of the Tigers by dint of our still having guys on the team he acquired, I think what we will find is that almost all of them will be gone by 2027. We’ll definitely have Colt Keith, we’ll probably still have Riley Greene, and possibly Reese Olson, and maybe even Tarik Skubal if we can sign him. But it wouldn’t floor me to see practically all the rest gone, including perhaps Tork and Mize and Meadows, probably Perez and some bubble-40 guys like Campos and Workman and Flores, and certainly Manning and Kreidler and Baddoo and Rogers, and probably all of Avila’s relievers. All gone. Bookmark this post so you can lambast me, or the memory thereof, in 2-1/2 years. 😁

  9. How much do we have to pay to have move Tork?

  10. I don't like the idea just because I'm not seeing the problem with his play at 2b given his experience level there. They certainly expect him to improve as a hitter, so if you think he will achieve an OPS suitable for 1st that's one thing, but if he can achieve an OPS suitable for 1st and still learn to play 2nd, I'd still leave him there. It's been said here before, but people are getting into too much of a hurry, half a season is not much time to master a new position on the IF let alone do it as a rookie in the majors.

  13. Time for Andrew Navigato? I'm sure he's probably not on the 40-man, but he plays SS and has an 890 OPS in Toledo. There are far worse options right now.

  14. By the logic of so many of the impatient sect of the fan base, the infrastructural investments in the Dominican Republic Academy are a waste of money because they do not contribute to 2024 or 2025 success.

  16. I see nothing wrong with any of Greenberg's quotes. In fact, I grant a 100% endorsement.

  17. It struck me as odd when I saw the line too. Thanks for confirming it. The other thing is you wouldn't expect it from Mize who had never struck out more than 7 batters in a game previously.

  18. building around a strong rotation blew up in the Astros faces this year with everyone on the IL, but with a little bit of health luck, this would be nice rotation next year: Skubal-Jobe-Flaherty-Olson-Mize

  20. Kreidler and Malloy have yet to give us any reason for optimism. Perez and Keith are doing enough to keep hope for them alive.

  21. Cody had some interesting takes on his Pod this week. One of the topics was how the Brewers manager apparently shared that he felt his team was perfectly suited for Comerica and insinuated that the Tigers weren’t. If the shift will be to find more guys who have contact skills with speed, that would make sense to me. Probably not an accident that Clark and McGonigle both seem to fit that profile. Maybe get some big boppers at 1B and 3B and fill in the rest with Brewers-type players. I would put Greene borderline in that camp. Small sample with Lee, and he has a long way to go, but he seems like a good profile for the CoPa

  22. Kenny should have traded Draisaitl for someone who would score in the SCF. Fail Kenny.

  23. Especially since Nick looked at him with a blank stare as if he never saw him before in his life. remember in the sopranos when Paulie ran into Carmine Sr who had no idea who he was?

  24. You aren't wrong. But he's also somebody who went undrafted and unsigned and was playing in indy ball a month ago, so I'm not sure he should have been expected to pass any test. Not saying he's a prospect.

  25. Carson Kelly has given himself a decent trade market as a catcher. Decent win for Harris and his pro personnel staff.

  28. He was fired. I sort of question him taking the Cavs job. Great guy to develop a team and build culture, exactly what Detroit needed. Not sure he has the chops to handle an already established team. But maybe he learned that sitting next to Kerr the past few years.

  29. that would make Dingler a borderline all-star
    1 point
  30. But as for Dingler: 2021: High A .287 BA, .925 OPS. 2022: second time through AA (his first pass in 2021 he struggled badly): .238 BA, .752 OPS. 2023: 3rd time in AA: .253 BA, .833 OPS 2024: second time through AAA (his first pass in 2023 he struggled badly): .287 BA, .858 OPS. My hope is that if he got called up this year (either/or after trade deadline if Kelly is traded; if not: September) he might struggle initially, but by next year he would start showing flashes that would boost him as better than Rogers 2.0. You offered .210/ .300/ .400. I'll offer .240 to .260 (range over the years 2025 to 2030), .330/.450 average OPS of .780.

  31. If I went on a date with someone who supported Trump I'd ask them if I mocked a customer in this restaurant who had a disability during the course of our meal together would you go on a second date with me? If the answer is no, then why the **** would you elect a person President who does that.
