  1. Unless others can convince me, I'm not as worked up on this as I expected to be. As I spend 3 minutes trying to decide on official vs non official acts.... assasination isn't legal. A president is charged with faithfully executing the laws. Often Presidents are faced with 2 bad choices and they have to decide which is worse. If a policy harms 2000 people vs the alternative that might have harmed 3000 people..... with no immunity for official acts could a group go after the POTUS when they picked the first option?

  2. The Southern League, Carolina League, South Atlantic League and International League are already into their second half. If you look at the MiLB schedules, teams are splitting the week with their opponents. We’re going to see Myrtle Beach play Charleston at Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night and the next night we’ll see the same two teams in Charleston. Monday-Wednesday at one park and Thursday-Saturday at the alternate team’s park for MiLB this week. This is the case across MiLB this week. My guess is that this has something to do with the 4th of July fireworks and the gate that the 4th of July brings for MiLB teams. It’s usually the biggest revenue night of the year.

  3. Well, Toledo hosts Columbus Monday through Wednesday and then the series shifts to Columbus Thursday through Saturday. Wednesday is July 3rd and Thursday is July 4th. I think the International League has tried getting every team a home game around that time in the past before the age of the Tuesday through Sunday series. That might be what is going on here, but it’s just a guess.

  4. i'm fine with what they did today because they didnt spend stupid term on players. everyone who is complaining that they didnt sign any big names today were the same people pounding the table for johnny gaudreau and pierre luc dubois. chasing the shiny toy every year. the worst things yzerman has done are the copp, compher, and holl deals. overpaying for guys in years and money. the best things he's done in FA are waiting out the market to get ghost and kane when everyone else was tapped out on money. waiting out ottawa to get debrincat on a good trade and for decent TERM. that kane deal is great. every other deal today was prudent, imo. to me, this was always a bridge year to next year. make your big splash when your foundation is ready to contribute. now, with all that said, its day one. he could be dealing multiple #1 picks for trouba or signing a guy for 5 years to play third line center tomorrow and i will have to walk this all back. but for the moment, i am fine with this. bring up the kids next year and let them play. sign seider and raymond. if you cant make the playoffs, i'm ok with that. let fabbri, husso, etc come off the books and spend big next year.

  5. Stood outside SCOTUS starting at 5am to get a front row ear to the opinions today. I think what will stick with me the longest is Roberts' saying "I wrote the opinion in Trump v. United States" and the deafening sound of a hundred people leaning up in their chairs, moving to a fresh notepad, and clicking their pens. FWIW, I don't think this is the affront to democracy that the dissent makes it out to be. What if Trump had directed the DOJ to prosecute Obama for conspiracy to commit murder on day one, on account of his drone strikes? There just has to be some level of criminal immunity provided to the commander in chief. The question at the end of the day will be how far the periphery of that presumptive immunity will go, which almost has to be anecdotal and case-by-case in nature, because (hopefully) so few Presidents are getting indicted and charged with crimes. At the end of the day, voters are who should be holding elected officials accountable for their official acts. That being said, if the Court comes back next term after a Biden victory in November and says "sorry, but a President inciting a violent mob and violating RICO in an attempt to overthrow an election is within that umbrella of an official act", then that's a different conversation, and the dissent will be right to be livid. I don't think they'll have the five votes to get that far though, especially when the political pressure of an election is removed.

  6. All true but unfortunately this is not part of the public perception at the moment. It’s probably a great idea for the Biden campaign and Democratic war machine to start focusing on health much more with regards to Trump. If both sides are perceived to have the same issue, it’s no longer a deciding factor in the election.

  11. an excellent question, but the real inquiry is who is the 13th best prospect we will pick at #5.

  12. From ACB's concurrence: She goes on to say that she would not have vacated the judgement but instead declared the acts at issue here not official acts based off the present record, and that the case could therefore go to trial. That means at least four already agree that Trump should be able to be prosecuted in at least this case.

  19. The options at Toledo are Englert, Wingenter, et al...so yeah. Another problem is that every other guy in the bullpen has had a disastrous outing within the past few weeks(aside from maybe Foley). So it's a bunch of bad choices.

  24. Its weird. I think most folks would take a WHIP of around 1.00 and a SO/BB of 3.57 from a RP. But, much like the bullpen in general, he has fallen apart after April.

  26. So, if he gets who everybody else wanted, he gets no credit. If he get a late round guy who succeeds, he gets no credit. No matter who he picks, he gets no credit. Chris Fetter was signed under Avila too, but I am retty sure you have already explained why he gets no credit for that. I still say those were all successes for Avila. He was also a bad GM. Those two things can happen at the same time.

  27. I think Biden *today* is more qualified for the job, without a doubt. Trump was that bad as President, and is that bad today in terms of where he is mentally. But he's a candidate for this office and it falls on him and his campaign to convince the majority that he is up for it. And he simply failed at doing so and has largely not moved the needle on this over the course of this campaign. I feel firm in my conviction on what I said in the first paragraph, but I'm not going to live in denial on this, the majority in this country disagrees with me and most people on this board. And it's hard to see how the needle starts to move in the correct direction with some four months left in this campaign

  28. This pretty much nails it. Back in 2018 breaking stuff was still considered put-away pitches. Six years later, only high cheese pushing 100 at minimum at the top of the zone can seem to get big-league batters out. Casey is basically a pitcher of a different era, with signature pitches today’s hitters know how to spit all over. That might be why his K/9 is not even as high as seven, even post-surgery. There are some bright spots in Casey’s performance. His FIP- is 91, which is a bit better than average, he doesn’t give away free passes much, and he kills a lot of worms. But he still can’t get swing and miss, can’t get guys to chase, and gives up too much on-the-button contact, and he isn’t better at any of that than he was in 2021 pre-injuries. We may be seeing the finished product right now, which would make him as good as he’s ever going to be. If anyone could theoretically benefit from a ball deadened back to 1980s level, it is Casey Mize.

  35. Especially in Tork's case, considering he was drafted in a year where the last three months of the college season were cancelled. My understanding is stats are used somewhat, but not in the "look on Baseball Cube and rank guys" way. They are likely able to parse stats and factor in competition and park factors, but even then, that's only a small piece of the pie. Especially now that they have batted ball/spin/etc. data.

  36. Plus they seem like they care that there are fans there. MLB has a certain arrogance when it comes to fans, like we are lucky they exist and should thank them for allowing us to spend $100+ to watch a terrible product. But yea, the team sucks but now you watch them suck from upgraded seats. Minor league games have all sorts of give aways, stuff between innings, etc Just a lot better experience.

  37. Going to minor league games is definitely more fun for me. I am not emotionally invested in the teams and don't care who wins, but the environment is usually more enjoyable.

  41. you know what the complete comedy in all this cultural warfare is? It's upper class liberals that live the most morally 'conservative' lifestyle of any segment of American society. They have the most marriages, the fewest children out of wedlock, the highest proportion of stable two parent households. The right in American has their head so far up their asses they don't understand the difference between being free to do something and forcing other people to do something. Liberals are completely happy with conventional lifestyles, we don't denigrate them at all, all we want to do is make room for people to be free to do it differently if that is their choice. The right just can't figure out this simple equation. Wanting to allow people to be free is just that, and nothing more than that. But of course, "that" is a lot. The Christian Right's problem (as well as the RCC ) is that they want the state to mandate people to do what they can't persuade people to do because their doctrine is just too unappealing. They call themselves "Evangelist" after the Greek for "Good Tidings" but their "news" just isn't so good and when people see it and don't like it, they want to be entitled to police power to enforce it.
