  1. Attendance at these Reds games fell precipitously with each Tigers win: Friday- 40,000 Sat- 31,000 Sun- 25,000 A team that was flying high after sweeping the Yankees in the Bronx was brought to its knees by the Tigers, crying and begging for mercy by the end of this series. “Please don’t hurts us!” they pleaded but to no avail. PHFFT! TIGERS WIN!

  2. I think a lot of these Dems who want Biden to drop out are sniffing their chance at power. Either the nom or a VP slot. I hate politicians.

  3. The whole of the race is really in an bizokers place. The thing that seems to be at work to me is that some people (e.g., my hausfrau) saw Biden and some became inconsolable because he wasn't dynamically and effectively fighting each of Trump's lies. Others saw Trump's lies and said: "oh yeah that's why I could never vote for that jackwagon." The right mode of attack is: Project 2025 is autocracy, Ukraine is the bulwark of Democracy, (that if it falls, war in Taiwan will follow which will draw in your sons and daughters.) Trump led a coup on Jan 6 2021, (Those self-entitled neckbeards think they own the country not you.) only 4 of 44 of Trump's cabinet and no former GOP Presidents or VPs support him, Roe vs Wade, (which was made possible by the next item) A right's-snatching Supreme Court (comprised of corrupt and contemptible hacks put in place by) a RW star chamber and Mitch (looks worse than Biden did in the Debate) McConnell and then lastly: Joe is a good man. Another thing to run on would be: Kamela Harris is a good person who can prosecute the case against Trump and carry on the prosecution of the war in Ukraine with the same foreign policy team after Biden dies

  5. I'm not 100% certain on how to read this, but here goes—this is from Isaac Paredes's Savant page: The way it looks to me, from all the balls Isaac Paredes has put into play since the beginning of 2022, he has hit 65 actual home runs since he went to Tampa. If he hit all those same in-play balls in the exact same way—same launch angle, same exit velocity, same direction, adjusted for time of day and atmospheric conditions, I suppose—all in the Tampa ballpark, he would have gotten 70 home runs out of them. But had he hit those same fly balls at Comerica, it would have resulted in 55 home runs. I don't think this means Paredes has lost 15 home runs he would have gotten had he stayed in Detroit, but it might be fair to say that the long fly balls he did hit were -21% less likely to go out at Comerica than they would at the Trop. So, generally speaking, we can assume that he's gained several home runs more since going to Tampa than had he stayed here. Although, do we really believe these numbers on their face? I mean, look at Baltimore, for cry eye! He would have had only 26 home runs on those same balls? Do you buy that? That seems like a hard sell to me, but I'm willing to listen to anyone who can tell me why that makes sense. One thing that tells me is that a lot of his home runs are wall scrapers, which makes sense, because get a load of how much blue there is in his hard hit metrics. I had no idea. So weird.

  6. This is what I'm saying: Avila blocked him here. Paredes was never going to get his chance, so, as long as we're going to deal him anyway, might as well get a middle-of-the-order thumper for him. It was a big swing by Avila that I thought was at least defensible, and I acknowledged that at the time—although I also said that I was not looking forward to watching Paredes fashion an All-Star career in someone else's threads.

  17. It was hard to fault the deal based on what everyone thought Austen Meadows was, the frustration here was that they never gave Paredes a puncher's chance to show what he was before they moved him. And they could have used the help on the IF a lot more than in the OF in any case.

  19. Just about everyone here liked the move a lot. I was the only one openly questioning it, and even I said back then that I liked the chutzpah of dealing from the top of the system for (what we thought was) an established middle-of-the-order hitter, and I knew Paredes was never going to make Avila's team anyway. I bet Tampa knew at least something about Meadows' mental health issues going in.

  20. On this score, despite the self-righteousness of a lot of the "Biden must drop out" crowd, I don't think they are helping. Even though they think they are. Today on X dot com, they are currently debating about "the elites" being responsible for Biden still being in it, despite the fact that may of the loudest commentators (the Matt Yglesias's and Bulwark types) *are* elites themselves and have written extensively on this subject for months. It's just inane. The biggest issue is the sense that, even if he steps aside, what then? You look at the Bill Kristol types (not even a Democrat lol) who have made their entire identity into this subject over the course of the last few weeks, and when they discuss the possibility of him actually stepping aside, they launch into fantasies about a firehouse, last second primary among delegates in Chicago, as if that's the answer to everything. As if that purportedly respects the actually will of the voters. I still don't know what's going to happen here, but my overall takeaway is that a lot of people have done a great job in showing their *** throughout all of this. I just hope, whether it's Biden or Harris (and yes, it will be one or the other), they can somehow unify. That's the biggest casualty in all of this.

  21. Cmon CM, you’re at it again. There’s no need for a physical. The guy has recently won 2 club championships in golf. Not the Senior group but the entire club! He’s regularly beating players half his age. He’s so good that many courses across the world have been named after him.

  22. It’s free for this season. There’s no word on whether it’ll be free forever. I do wonder how many people are paying the $19.99/month for Ballys app right now especially with the Tigers as the only live content this summer. I’m not sure we’ll ever know these numbers but I know of many more that just stopped watching rather than keep paying the money.

  24. I did see it said that he has something that I won't dare pronounce or spell, but it's a condition where the feet go numb. That's why his gait is the way it is. My wife says it's not even age related. Someone who is 35 can get it. While I can't say it's common, it's something she as a therapist is very familiar with and sees quite often in patients.

  25. Reports have surfaced that Biden has seen a doctor known for his work with Parkinson's several times as well. Doesn't mean he has that, but if true, his medical team has some concerns as well. Maybe if Biden can just get a letter out to the press of 50 well respected doctors to say they don't show anything wrong with him this will be put to bed.

  27. He had a physical in February, the White House did release a summary. No cognitive test was given at the time. Meanwhile I don't believe any tests released by the Trump campaign. He probably had someone take them for him.

  28. I’d hold on to Ibanez and Vierling. Both are good contributors and likely wouldn’t command much in return. Ibanez is who he is—plus bat against LH pitching and provided defensive versatility. I still think Vierling can get better. I’ll trust that he is monitoring the opportunities with Flaherty and Kelly, though he’s not forced to move either at the deadline. This is different than the ERod situation.

  33. I wonder how much the threat of Trump beating Biden here in the States drove voters in Britain and France to the polls to repudiate their own right wingers. I would bet that influenced the outcome a lot. As long as there are free and fair elections, hard right wingers will lose practically everywhere in the First World. There are only two ways I can think for them to win: (1) fix the election upfront; (2) overturn the election results after the fact. After that, staying in power is all about the muscle.

  34. I don't want them to trade prospects for players on expiring contracts. If Harris decides to wait until the off-season to aquire players that will be around for a few seasons, I'm fine with it. And the next 7 games may be a reality check. Cleveland for 4 game and the Dodgers for 3.

  37. So you know how they introduce the actors during the Leave It To Beaver opening credits, right? "Leave it to Beaver! Starring Barbara Billingsley ... Hugh Beaumont ... Tony Dow ... and Jerry Mathers ... as The Beaver." Well, the old **** Van Dyke Show, which I still watch on occasion, has the practically the same type of introduction: "The **** Van Dyke Show! Starring **** Van Dyke ... Rose Marie ... Morey Amsterdam ... Larry Matthews ... and Mary Tyler Moore." And I just can't help but add at the end: "... as the beaver." Which ... oh, hell, yeah ...

  38. I believe the Tigers traded Ben Oglive to the Brewers for Jim Slaton. Then Slaton signed back with Milwaukee after the season. So the Tigers essentially gifted Milwaukee an All Star.

  41. That trade reeked of a deal where Wingenter had an upward mobility clause, and it was confirmed by somebody on the Red Sox beat. So, similar to Trayce Thompson a couple of years ago or Jonathan Davis last year, they either had to call up Wingenter or offer him to every other team and make a deal. Not much leverage in that situation. Those clauses aren't public, so it's tough to know when they are coming.

  42. I will say one thing I've learned about dementia, and obviously all cases are different, is the person who is sick often does not know they are sick. Also, given how difficult it is to get a neurology appointment right now (not for POTUS), a lot of people are going through this right now. I really hope people stop with the flippant jokes about that disease in an attempt to score political points.
