This is really really delightful, especially given the not very good day. I’ve been having.

I really want the Tigers to win this more than most regular season games, because it seems like every kid there is pulling for the Yankees. I want those kids to go home disappointed.

I'll be on the north side Tuesday and Thursday and on the south side Saturday! Then I'm coming into town for Red Sox-Tigers the following Friday. They're playing good, exciting ball with a good chunk of the future on the roster now, so, should be a good time to see them play!

In 15 games back from AAA and his break on the IL; Meadows is hitting .351/.373/.596 with 6SB while playing elite CF defense. He has a .409 BABIP so not sustainable but easy to dream on.

So the Tigers are going to spend eight days and seven nights in Chicago, first playing the Cubs and then the Sox. This will be almost like a home stand only on the road. Hoping they settle in on this off day, get dialed in, and play some memorable baseball in the city of broad shoulders.

Well, me for one. Honestly I'm not sure why you assume that most people have done this? It's frankly disturbing that you'd assume this. I'm a bit put out that you'd state something like this because when I did it, it was a domestic flight and therefore totally different.

I think of "plateau" as meaning this is as good as Malloy's going to get, and I believe most of the rest of the world thinks of it as that, too. I have my doubts as to whether Malloy has plateaued. I think he has room to get better. I don't know whether that includes his glove, but if .700 OPS is his plateau, then we might as well start looking for ways to cash him in.

If Tork is productive through the end of the season, they will be loath to give up their best RH bat. If he isn't, he won't net much on the market so if he is moved it would be as a throw in, he won't bring back enough to matter. If he is sort of so-so - 90-100 OPS+ then I think you have the highest prob they shop him.

Weird weekend where my NFL team played the best team in football and their QB did something showy and amazing and that was the headline which ends with "Mahomes does behind the back pass in loss to Lions" or some such and the entire game was a celebration of things KC Chiefs because it was their announcers. Then the Tigers play last night under the same broadcast situation. I really hope next year we can beat the Yankees in the playoffs. I'm beyond ready for that.

There are two ways to look at it: To be promoted and not fall off the cliff a month in once you are thoroughly scouted is a good thing to see in a rookie, so 'plateau' isn't the worst thing. But we know Malloy is sort of an odd duck. His MiLB OPS was driven by a 20% walk rate, and his MLB walk rate is a good but more normal 10%. So knock 100 of his MiLB OPS for that and then assume a normal loss of 50-100 OPS points on reduced contact against better pitching and a 700 OPS player may just be what you have. But if he goes back to AAA now understanding he has to work on making better in-zone contact instead of waiting for MiLB pitchers to walk him, then the call-up will have profited him.

they won 78 last season, they need to get to >90 to be competing for the playoffs. So call it 92 wins and a 14 game improvement. To accomplish half of that this season would require them to get to 85wins - which is conceivable, but not all that likely - they would have to play 600 the rest of the way. OTOH, if they were on track for the playoffs, Flaherty would still be here, so that would add 2-5 wins. The the other view would be that if they do at least win any number greater than last year after losing Olsen, Mize, trading Flaherty and having Lange turn into a pumpkin, then the line-up has gotten stronger and they could be poised to make up a lot of ground in 25. The irony is that while you can point to all the unexpected pitching loses, it's still runs scored where they are lagging by 50+ runs of being in the same class as the playoff teams, while despite the pitching losses, their runs allowed would be competitive in most divisions.

I just can’t get over how nourishing, exciting, surprising, and hopeful these last dozen games have been. And after the trade deadline, these last dozen games have disrupted the narrative I expected to witness. And hey, I guess they could go into a collapse, but my philosophy is what I think the novelist Sherwood Anderson said “eat your ice cream before it melts.” This is really good ice cream. This is really enjoyable.

The cutoff man had the ball before Jayce even hit 3rd base...that wasnt a good send at all, and it's not like it was a bang bang close play with Jayce half way to homeplate when the cutoff guy got the ball, he was dead to rights 30 feet in front of home plate...just admit it was a bad send by Cora, come on man

Sorry, Bert. Hope you feel better soon. I am sure you’ll enjoy watching the game as much as I will here in Jersey. I just love that they’re playing this in the Little League World Series park. It just makes it extra fun, and the kids seem so excited to meet these major league players. Thankfully, the weather seems to now be cooperating. (But I have severe t-storms & flash flood warnings every 10 minutes. 🤪😬. I’m just going to hope I don’t lose power, so I can watch the game.)
