I remain amazed that after the July trade deadline, when I assumed this team had pulled the plug on any hopes for this season, that they would propel themselves into a future that is happening now. This late charge is dazzling and exceeds anything I had dared hope for. These guys have a great esprit de corps that is tangible and infectious, and if there actually is a subjective or affective side to this game that has real effects when combined with good coaching and training, this bottled lightning they have discovered is a pure joy to witness.5 points

THANK you. It hasn't escaped my notice that everyone I've ever heard clamoring for legislating longer starting pitcher starts are over 50, mostly way over. I've never heard any young fans agitate for it. There's nothing I can see about the opener that is degrading the product on the field. One could fairly have made that case about extreme defensive shifts, and about pitchers and hitters dawdling around between pitches. I don't see the same five alarms going off about openers. As far as I can tell, the opener is just another pitcher being deployed to maximum advantage for a team, same as the closer which, if 50-ish-year-long memory serves, was also widely complained about since it (further) reduced complete games. Hell, the closer concept is still disparaged in some quarters. I love it when people cover my tunes.2 points

I can’t see how making a SP go a certain amount of innings has anything to do with the way this game has ever been played. The bull pen strategy or whatever you wish to call it is only a direct result of pitchers going on the DL because every pitch can result in a home run and they’re injuring themselves trying to avoid that. If they’re going have a rule about pitching a certain number of innings, they should add the 10 run mercy rule and be honest about the Mickey Mouse nature of these changes. Of course, I don’t know what their series of ifs, ands, or buts are that will adjudicate all these possible complications. If they’re going to do anything, they should deaden the ball so pitchers are not throwing their arms out of whack and getting TJ surgery for fear of giving up a plethora of long balls.2 points

The Tigers have had enough success with it that I look for the league to do something to outlaw 'openers' in the off-season.2 points

With Hurter's motion and his use of off speed pitches, he sort of looks like Kenny Rogers on the mound to me. I read about him last year, and Montero. Had no idea they'd both have a shot at being future rotation guys. With Jobe and maybe Hamm, the depth looks to come from within. Lions and Tigers and Wings, oh my!2 points

True. But that’s different because it CAN affect the outcome as you described. But none of the pictures have me on speed dial so I can say what I want2 points

You can try switching over to the Toledo game if you want and watch Jobe make his AAA debut. Nevermind. Forgot your not home.1 point

I have to admit, I have rarely had cause to use this term in any context, but it really applies to the energy you see exhibited on this field by these young guys. The unabashed joy they share is really special.1 point

It's not just that the Tigers are winning. The story has to include the Twins collapse.1 point

the only part I remembered myself is that there were a lot no-hitters that season and people were starting to talk about it being 1968 all over again and when were they going to make a rule change.1 point

You should have a day where you dress up as Perry Ferrell. He’s apparently been a drunken mess all throughout this tour.1 point

So I often make fun of Robert Smith of The Cure for how perfectionist he is and how he has to do and re-do his vocals 1,000 times before releasing a new Cure album. Thinking it would never happen I pledged on the air that if the Cure releases an ablum in 2024...........I will dress up like Robert Smith that day. The hair and the makeup. Looks like The Cure is releasing a new album in November. I'll send pictures.1 point

You’d have to go deeper in the thread, but not recommending it. The point is we shouldn’t rush to judgement over a ridiculously small sample size.1 point

Broadcasters should talk about no hitters too. It seems like that should be pat of their jobs.1 point

I think most people regard solo no hitters more than group no hitters. Everybody remembers the no hitters by Verlander and Turnbull. How many remember the 7/8/2023 no hitter thrown by Manning, Foley and Lange? I had forgotten about that one until I looked up Tigers no hitters.1 point

It’s always a mistake when I go on a Tigers-oriented Facebook page and read the blathering idiocy of ordinary fans. It makes me appreciate this place even though we are Morans. Two or three months ago, scores of ordinary fans on a Facebook Tigers page were venting their rage at Verlander claiming that he had left the team in free agency for more money and they could never forgive him. There were so many of them almost no one could be heard over their grunts that simulated reasoned discourse Just now it was white hot rage at the Jack Flaherty trade that anyone with brain tissue knew was inevitable. Even though we are fewer than we once were, I’m glad the few of us who remain are still together.1 point

The best part of my day is when I come home and she comes outside, immediately runs over and jumps on that patio chair and waits for me and then gives me a great big hug. Even though I really love my job and rarely come home in a bad mood, but it just makes everything okay for a little bit.1 point
