I think allowing all parents to raise their children only as they see fit is overrated. Some parents are not fit in the first place and need to have their children rescued from them.3 points

You know what? Nothing about today and reading this thread has been in any way cathartic for me. Period. ….which pretty much tells me that I also need to step away for a bit. What all this has told me, and I don’t think I can be dissuaded from this opinion, is this country will not vote for a woman. The only way would be is if both Republicans and Democratic candidates were women, and you goddamn know that never going to happen. I will try to direct some of my brain power(whatever might still exist), and whatever else is needed into areas that would be a positive. If locally there are any groups working with immigrants, I will see if I can help there. If there are women that need medical help/assistance, I will see if I can help in that direction. make no mistake about it, this was & is a war against women.3 points

I was planning to take a couple of days off, then start researching in preparation for the midterms. And then it will be the time to get active in our communities, and if you haven't already, follow your local government and try to make choices to make it a healthy one. There are a lot of organizations and people out there who could use the help. And... remember in 2016 enough people got together to keep the ACA in place until the midterm elections-maybe we can't prevent everything on Drumpf's agenda but we owe it to ourselves to keep trying.3 points

The Lions are going to be loaded in the secondary for the playoff run with Moseley and Iffy returning, assuming they don't get injured again in the next 3 weeks which is a big assumption with those two. Davis, Arnold, Robertson, Rakestraw, Moseley, Branch, Joseph, Iffy, even B. Joseph, Dorsey Vildor are decent depth that far back into the depth chart. I'd be hard pressed to find a deeper secondary in the league, Holmes is a freaking magician with what he's done with this group in 2 years really.2 points

Rational and informed people want to believe the country would elect an openly gay man for President. The numbers tell us that a majority of our voting population is not rational or informed.2 points

FROM TOM SANTOS ON X- So when Trump fires all non-partisan career professionals in government, replaces them with radical loyalists within every nook and cranny of the US government, and adds radical judges everywhere. And every one of you that voted for him finally wake up from your ****ed up fantasy just like the folks that woke up after 4 years of the last **** show, only to realize it’s much much worse, and much more permanent, this time. When the cancer you caused has infected every bit of the American system and it can’t be unwound for a lifetime. What then? Do you beg this country for forgiveness for choosing fascism because you were conned into believing your eggs are too expensive because of Joe Biden? You just put Steve Bannon in charge of American policy. You just put Michael Flynn in charge of our military. You just put Alex Jones in charge of media and propaganda. You just put Stephen Miller in charge of immigration policy. You just put bat**** crazy RFK Jr. in charge of health policy. You just killed free public education and privatized schools, which you will have to pay for. You just sealed the deal on a national abortion ban, because you’re demented if you think it’s not coming. You just radicalized the Supreme Court for a generation. You just made women less safe and less free. You just made this country an oligarchy with the billionaires quite literally in charge now. You just put in office the one person that believes a president is a king, with the ****ing Supreme Court ruling to prove it in his back pocket! You just ushered in Fascism. Because your cereal costs more. Congratulations.2 points

We shouldn’t be surprised about Biden. I remember during the Obama presidency they locked him up in the vice president’s mansion and put duct tape over his mouth so he couldn’t say anything untoward and embarrass them. Then passed him over for running in 2016 and it looked like he was dead politically and then in 2020, lo and behold, the oligarchy had to find the oldest, safest, and most innocuous candidate because everybody else was “too left-wing or too young“ and they dredged him up. This is what the oligarchy does to us. And interestingly, enough, Biden enacted some “activist government“ policies that by my recollection were greater than what Obama ever did — he acted like an actual Democrat at times which is something that hasn’t happened for quite a while — especially given that his healthcare plan was a business-friendly marketplace healthcare plan and not an expansion of Medicare. To me, Obama is sort of a liberal Republican of the old style who had to be a Democrat by circumstances, who believes “the business of America is business” and government intervention is essentially obsolete. He never really stood up to the far right, he never engaged in political combat when they were tarring and feathering him. And I think we can thank him for making the momentum of the far right possible.2 points

Biden administration did more for working class whites than any administration in decades. Trump did nothing for them; will do nothing for them. It really is a pure messaging issue. Dems needs to build massive social media platforms to reach these people. I would suggest even if the Dems do nothing to help these people, just lie and say you did. Say you cut their taxes (whether you did or not); say you increased their SS checks (whether you did or not); say you brought in more jobs (whether you did or not) actual accomplishments mean nothing - it's all vibes, so don't focus on helping people, focus on lying to them1 point

Lets do a little math, everyone: 2024 MICHIGAN SENATE RACE Elissa Slotkin Raw Vote Total: 2,690,782 Mike Rogers Raw Vote Total: 2,673,747 2024 MICHIGAN PRESIDENTIAL RACE Kamala Harris Raw Vote Total: 2,715,809 Donald Trump Raw Vote Total: 2,800,060 Difference between Harris/Slotkin: +25,027 Harris Difference between Trump/Rogers: +126,313 Trump [126,313 - 25,027] = 101,286 votes Margin of victory in Michigan for Donald J. Trump in 2024: 84,251 votes. --------------------------------------------------------------- There'll be a lot of questions about how Dems pulled out all these close Senate races despite Trump winning, but this is why. And again, it raises a lot of interesting questions about future election cycles... especially considering this will be the last time Trump's name will be on a ballot.1 point

Permission to speak freely, sir? The premise of this post is horse**** and you know it. We just had a black woman running whom we could trust to do right by the economy—if she gets the blame for working with the Biden economy you don't like, then she gets credit for working with the Biden economy that got inflation under control with record employment—and it's becoming very clear that millions of people wouldn't vote for her simply because she was black and a woman. A gay person, even a gay white man, would also lose millions of votes simply because he is gay. You know you'll never be in the position of having to choose whether you would vote for an openly gay man because you (and I) will be long dead before an openly gay man runs as a Republican. So you're safe from having to put your money where your mouth is. Sir.1 point

'Filtration' terminology is used sloppily out in the real world. You do not 'filter' DS. 'Filters' remove solid particles. Some filters remove very small particles but still solid particles. Sort of by definition a filter does not remove DS, because --- it's dissolved - no particles at all. To stop dissolved ions you can move from a filter to a membrane - i.e. Reverse Osmosis removes DS. While it could be done I suppose, I haven't seen a Fridge with an RO. Just to confuse things there are also membranes used for very fine particle filtration - but they don't remove DS either. But you can also exchange one ion for another, which is what a zero carafe does. That's not 'filtration' either, it's ion-exchange. It's loaded with two ion-exchange resins. One to swap out cations like Na, Ca for hydrogen ions, and the other to swap out chloride or other anions for hydroxyl ions. The hydrogen and hydroxyl combine to produce water, which is non-conductive, whereas the NaCl or whatever DS was in the water initially is conductive. Thus the ion-exchange reduces the conductivity, which is what the meter reads and calls DS. RO also reduces conductivity because the anions and cations simply don't pass the membrane. There are other differences but a major one is that an RO membrane will last a long time if it's not physically damaged, whereas the ion exchange resin eventually runs out of the replacement ions it was charged with and needs to be replaced. In larger ion-exchange systems the resin may be regenerable - e.g. a water softener (totally different resin/exchange system in a water softener however.....) Fridge filters are usually just particulate filters plus activated carbon, which removes mostly organic contaminants and can also tie up chlorine - actually Cl2 mostly reacts on the surface of AC and turns in to ordinary chloride ion. (The zero carafe also contains activated carbon in front of the ion-exchange resin). Chlorine removal by AC won't result in any reduction in DS reading - in fact it would produce a tiny increase. The carbon may trap a few other heavy ions, but basically only reduces DS by accident. I can't say there aren't any fridge filters that do ion-exchange like your carafe, but I know many or maybe most do not. For sure I've never seen one available for a fridge I've owned. So tl:dr, it's not unexpected that your fridge filter, which is likely just a particulate filter plus AC, doesn't reduce DS. It that is the composition, it wasn't designed to.1 point

In Windsor, we have fluoride in the water again after not having it for several years. They did studies and found dental health became worse when the fluoride was gone. I've always drank the tap water here. Too bad science, truth and facts are not part of project 2025.1 point

Maybe six or seven years ago, I got one of those large Zerowater carafes that filters out dissolved solids to a 99+% rate (and also, funnily, it reduces Chlorine and Fluoride). A few years later, the city of Chicago then sent all us taxpayers a smaller Zerowater carafe and six filters gratis. (Well, actually, paid by our property taxes.) Chicago has one of the best water systems around, but sometimes, I can really smell the chlorine in the shower and coming out of the kitchen tap. ZW also provides you a meter that measures dissolved solids. Depending on where you are, tap water usually has around 100 to 200 PPM; ZW reduce that to zero, and you’re supposed to periodically test the water so you know when it’s time to change the filter. I’m telling you all this because I also used the meter to measure the water being filtered out of the fridge dispenser, and it had the exact same dissolved solids levels as the tap water, and when i changed the fridge filter to new and ran five quarts through the dispenser as instructed, it still had the same readings as water out of the tap. So, I’ve started to think the whole fridge filter thing is a sham.1 point

They tell themselves they don’t think trump is actually going to do all the awful things he’s promising to do, because after all, he was in office for four years already and he didn’t do any of that back then, did he? Of course, that means they’re active supporting a man who they acknowledge is being dishonest when he talks about what he’s going to do once he’s back in office, which, I’m sure there’s a bible verse somewhere that gives them all cover on that. Probably somewhere in the Old Testament near the Cyrus thing.1 point

I just don’t know how people can think government gets “smaller” when all the branches of government are concentrated into the hand of one man who is a dictator. I guess the decision-making is “streamlined“ but this model does not have a good track record historically. Dictatorships are the biggest government conceivable. Also, how can you LOVE “the constitution“ and support a candidate who essentially wants to get rid of it? You either have to be really duplicitous or so charged up with emotion that none of this stuff registers.1 point

They should have let Biden run in 2016 instead of Obama and his bros forcing Biden to stand down and clear the way for Hillary. Biden likely wins in 2016 and Trump goes back to being a C rate celebrity.1 point

I’d agree in a normal election where you have two candidates with differing world views. This was not a normal election. This was a vote against hate and for the immediate future of our democracy. You either voted for the party that had a chance to defeat Trump or you accepted it and were ok if he won.1 point
