And just as silly as this it is you can exactly reverse this meme to “death row inmates disguise themselves as fetuses…..”3 points

Unpopular opinion: the death penalty sucks and doesn't accomplish anything. Very few, if any, of the people he commuted to life sentences would have even faced it had he not did what he did today, but I'm glad he did it (although I tend to think that holding back on the hate crimes cases looks unprincipled) It's my most unpopular opinion... It doesn't save government money, it doesn't deter crime, I'm not even sure its about the victims in some cases... its all about something deeper for the American psyche. It's not rational, it's all about emotion... I'm sure some folks will call me woke and stupid for feeling this way, or that I cannot possibly relate... but given all of the above and the fact that we have undoubtedly executed innocents given that our justice system is composed of human beings, the costs outweigh any benefits IMO3 points

I think Randy meant we'll be able to see the Viking/Packers game since it was moved to the national timeslot.2 points

Republicans nominated a rapist for president and more voters picked him than the black lady and he wants to appoint rapists and sexual abusers to positions like defense secretary and attorney general so apparantly it’s all ok now. So quit your bitching. You voted for it. You endorsed it.2 points

My grandpa, born in 1914, went to Cass Tech. So this would have been late ‘20s, early 1930s. He got a job as a sweeper at Navin Field, cleaning up after the games - all matinees of course back then - finished up. Would take the streetcar after school. He said it was a steady job but was hired basically day to day. Once they knew you, you’d be hired day after day but if you missed a day there was a risk you’d be out of the rotation. So some pressure. He tried to get promoted to clubhouse attendant, and my understanding is he did not get the job but was asked to go into the visitors’ lockerroom a few times to help clean up.2 points

We’re witnessing Cunningham warp into his next dimension. So fun to see it. It’s too bad he had a few injuries to plow through in previous seasons. Hey, better late than never. The turnovers are still an issue. And I didn’t like his final shot, I’d have preferred he drove to the basket. But, he wasn’t exactly getting the calls last night either, so maybe the result is still a missed basket that is rebounded by the Lakers with enough time to get a shot off.1 point

If he wants anything even sniffing that type of deal then just let him F off and let’s stick with a Jung/Vierling platoon.1 point

It's always fun watching the Lakers lose. Nice to see the team win on a night when Cade was struggling a bit. He still found ways to impact the game, but the bench was phenomenal, especially on the defensive end. Reed with zero points, but 5 stocks. Then again, maybe we should give that 1 pt to him for the technical he drew on AD. Holland with a nice game as well. Beasley doing his thing as well, of course. As far as when we'll see them stop clenching up during crunch time...when you're the 6th youngest team in the NBA, that's going to happen.1 point

It appears that we along with the Red Sox and possibly the Mets are the only suitors left for Bregman. The contract will most likely look terrible in 4 or 5 years but he’d look great in our lineup everyday for the next 3+ seasons.1 point

Well, well, whaddya know ... just after I do this post, I see this: Walker signs 3-year, $60M deal with Astros: 'Everything we were looking for' In which Walker is quoted: “I try not to change who I am at the plate, but very excited about that short porch,” he said. “Playing at Chase [Field] so long, it’s a big park. This can be at times, too, but the atmosphere on the field as an opposing player, it’s fun to play. It’s a challenge.” So he is very excited about the "short porch" in Houston. He is done with "big parks". So the Tigers and Comerica Park never had a real chance for him. Now multiply that by every other right-handed free agent slugger.1 point

Unlike pitching, I really do think bats won’t choose to come here unless they are out of other options. Comerica is regarded as a tough place to hit homers, especially for right-handers, the exact hander we happen to need. And we are not known to have a hitter whisperer in the way we have a pitcher whisperer. So I think a top RHB was always a tall order, and if Bregman ends up coming here, it’s because he has run out of other options. We would have better luck getting a really good RHB if we were to liquidate prospects for someone who can’t block coming here.1 point

I actually agree... It's not totally unlike where George Ryan was in Illinois in 2003 (biggest difference being that Ryan was facing prison time), but in a case of conscience changing, it doesn't make sense to settle for a half loaf. You either go all in or you don't.1 point

Losing close games is just what mediocre teams do. The Lions were great at losing close games for decades. In fairness to the Bears, a large part of their problem is the North, at least here and now. If they were in most any other division, Eberflus isn’t fired when he is and they probably go around .500 this year, probably battle for a playoff spot, at least for a while. They were 4-5 until they had to start playing in the division. Now they’re 4-11. It’s just really hard to gain any traction as a mediocre team when you’re playing six games against top 5-8 teams in the league. It’s hard to see them doing any better than 7-10 or so next season without two of the Lions, Packers, and Vikings taking a significant step back. I do agree that finding the right coach can make a world of difference though. Dan Campbell, KOC, Sean Payton, and Jim Harbaugh all prove that. Lucky for us, Virginia McCaskey owns the team, so they’ll probably hire Kliff Bar Kingsbury.1 point

49ers are a good lesson in why we need to enjoy every second of this season, and of this era of Lions football. It can come crashing to the ground very quickly. The Niners a mess, owe a lot of people a lot of money, and I'm not sure Kyle Shanahan will survive a rebuild.1 point

A large portion still believe in the Trickle Down Fairy. That and they have to bend over for the billionaire donors who demand tax cuts in return. That and the democrats are giving all their money away to those who "don't earn it" or folks who flip hamburgers for a living, while they continue to receive their farm subsidies and disability benefits.1 point

Yes, when I was a child I also “put away childish things.” I somehow lost my ticket stubs for the fifth game of the 68 World Series and I don’t know if that’s one of those things I can blame my mom for, in all honesty. I think after a while, she asked me what I wanted to keep and since I moved on in life, I pretty much told her “nothing.“ I would only have a sentimental attachment to the things of childhood long after they no longer existed.1 point

I would prefer year-round DST to year-round standard time. I don't want the sun to set as early as 7:30PM on the first day of summer, and I definitely don't like it setting at 4:23Pm on December 21.1 point

I tried to give you a like and ran out. I’ll try to remember to come back to this. To the idea of capital punishment not saving the government money, I would bet the right wing elites would have an easy solution to that: execute immediately upon conviction. The moment after sentence is passed, walk the perp to a special cell, line them up against the wall, kablammo. Then bill the family for the bullet plus labor and court costs. And don’t forget the 3% surcharge if they use a credit card. I get a lot of good ideas when I put on my red hat.0 points
