don't agree with the moral calculus here. It's not Biden's fault that Trump is a moral midget. If Biden had a program in place that was in process and working, even if slowly, and that any reasonable person would have left in place, then it's not his fault for not planning on Trump's perfidy or that the voters would elect the moral midget. If you want someone to blame - blame Trump voters - THEY brought you this situation - it was their choices, not Biden's. This logic is sort of like an SoCal insurance company deciding to refuse fire claims by a merchant on the grounds he should have had a 1/2 off sale to move all his stock out of the store because he knew a fire in SoCal was always a possibility. You can't conflate someone doing the right thing at less than 100% effectiveness with someone doing the 100% the wrong thing. They are not the same. Or since this a is sports forum: In a down one basket ball game, how would you evaluate the guy that took a last shot and missed, to the guy that takes the in bound pass and hands the ball to the other team?

These are the same congregants who criticize "liberal" ministers who preach on the Beatitudes. To me the Sermon on the Mount is the basis of what should be Christianity. Now Christianity has become a political force, not what was ever intended by the guy they are supposed to be worshiping, at least according to what I learned in Sunday School. To be clear I'm not critiquing Christian faith, my beef is with those who don't practice what they preach.

Almost all the executive actions seem to reinforce white supremacy. I assume Miller and co wrote them. To the extent he has cogent thoughts Trump can probably understand that it helps the grift continue because running a white supremacist government means the most violent militias in the US will support him should someone in government or the military actually follow the law at some point. Or, the militias threat of reprisal will cause people to resign, or take the easier course and follow orders. Plus the grift has gotten lucrative. Crypto is a better scam then loans, hotel rooms, and golf tournaments. It is hard for me to imagine having tens of millions of dollars and harming so many people for a few billion more. But, then I have at least a limited conscience.

poles is the gm who didnt take jalen carter and hasnt really addressed their oline outside of one first round pick (who has been "ok"), and a bunch of fifth and sixth rounders/free agent scrap heap guys. instead he took a punter in round 4 last year and a punt returner (since waived) in round 3 his first year. cant wait to see which kicker gets picked with one of their two second round selections this time around. and then traded for the corpse of keenan allen and sogned deandre swift to a big contract. i remain very unimpressed with anything he's done other than swindling the equally stupid carolina panthers into trading for bryce young. the idea that they can build a lions/eagles-esque oline in one offseason is laughable.

i only saw parts of the 3rd and overtime, but when elmer was on the ice he looked like he did that last time he was here: big, slow, long, and passive. like g2, i did see him use his reach to poke the puck away a few times but i did not notice him throwing his body around like i would have hoped. but its just one game and i did miss most of it. seider remains in beast mode. he's really gone back to being a physical menace which is good to see. unfortunately the team offense has disappeared again. seems like when kane isnt on a bender the team sort of falls apart. there's no one really outside of larkin/raymond/debrincat who is a capable offensive player for the second line. as kane goes, the team goes. and unlike last year, there is no ghost to score from defense. as has been noted here multiple times gustafson and tarasenko were awful awful signings. they have no replacement for walman/ghost from last year and its killed them other than the period with the new coach bump/kane resurgence. i suspect if they are lucky enough to make the playoffs they will be a very easy out. teams will hunt kane and raymond and brutalize the 3rd pair defense and the wings will be easily swept without big time puck luck.

I read 44 books in 2024. Of these, 30 were non-fiction, 14 were fiction. Also of the 44, men wrote 30 of them, women wrote 14 of them. I read almost exclusively on Kindle these days and did a purge/donation of most of my print books a few years ago. About a quarter of the US households headed by a 60-64 year old have a net worth of $1,000,000 or more. You can live a comfortable life on that but you still have to keep working and saving. Being a millionaire is not that big of a big deal anymore.

well let's be precise. There is always downside risk that deflation becomes self amplifying, so the value in a small level of inflation is to give the Fed some downside travel on their target without triggering deflation. That's the one side that the 2% target comes from. On the other side, inflation at any level where it is actively felt by consumers will also set off a bad chain reaction of overbuying ahead of price increases and increasing long term interest rates choking off investment across the economy. The question again is were is the sweet spot. At 3% inflation, money losses 25% of it's value in 10yrs - that's pretty easily felt. At 2% is 18% of it value. At 1.5% it's 14%. That's getting to where people don't notice it much - so again, 0-2% is the range the Fed targets. It's not magic, and the people who say the targets are arbitrary are either just poorly informed or have an agenda for a different policy - for instance - support of inflation as a way to reduce the relative national debt. If you support tariffs that are going to drive up prices, you should support the Fed still tightening enough to keep the rate of inflation within target.

St Brown got matched up on the LB but slipped and fell so Goff had to hold on to the ball. Even if they didn't convert, they were going for it on 4th down anyways. When your down 17 with less than 10 minutes in the game, you can't run.

Definitely not a bum, did a great job here, but he choked in this game as badly as Goff. 14 carries for Gibbs is coaching malpractice and having Jamo throw a pass when you're 10 down was idiotic. Not to mention throwing on 3rd and short when Goff fumbled in the red zone early in the game when they were set to go up 14-3 when Gibbs was tearing up their defense. It was a poorly called game, almost as if his mind was elsewhere. Hmmm..

Didn't see all the game either - about 2/3. Saw at least a few plays where he used his length to break up a rush, he carried the puck with a little success. Didn't get much of a feel for how he played on defense as I hadn't memorized his number and I always find the fox/bally/fanduel production style uses too many tight shots to get get any quick sense for whether all 5 people are where they should be on the ice. I was struck at how much the team as a whole seemed to be back in fall-back mode. Tarasenko in particular. There were multiple times he could have challenged a Flyer for a loose puck at the boards at half ice but just fell back instead. I just don't get that. Maybe you can tie him up and ruin the flow - even if he beats you to the puck and gets a pass off, you've hurried him and can finish your check and take him out of the flow of whatever rush is started. Has to be better than letting him just skate away and organize his offense. The last few year's Wing's teams have done this (well failed to!) more than any hockey team i've ever watched. To me it's the biggest reason they've been bad. They don't/won't compete.

and the criticism comes from people who wear their version of Christianity on their sleeve and cry when you go after them as if you are "anti religion" but don't think twice about their hypocrisy when they do this. I grew up with these people. I see it going on right now. It's their version of Christianity or the highway. The first problem they see here is a female bishop. For them they can't even get past that. The merging of religion and potlics that took off with Falwell is the main reason why the church as a whole is dying off. The leaders are too busy counting their money to look in the mirror.

My favorite podcast to listen to is The Rewatchables, run by Bill Simmons and his Ringer group. It's them talking about movies that are "Rewatchable", meaning we've all seen them a million times on cable, etc. It forces me sometimes to either watch a movie I just passed over all these years (even if they haven't done it yet but they keep referenceing it) or to revisit a one and done movie I just forgot about. Sea of Love and Running Scared are examples of this. The reason I'm posting this is when they did Running Scared a few months ago I searched for it and it was on Tubi. They make fun of Tubi. I made fun of Tubi. An old friend is a local actor and he stars in a series that's shown on Tubi, it's Detroit made. So I went to Tubi to watch Running Scared. My verdict? Tubi ****ing rules. It's got nearly everything. Yeah commercials. I don't care about that. If you like to watch TV and movies or are considering giving up the ohter streaming sites, give this one a shot.

I read a book about the fall of blockbuster. They had no interest in actually running the business. All they cared about was growth and expansion. (Stock price). They left so much on the table. No interest in data analysis or inventory management. The author worked for a big competitor in the south and wound up working for a big franchisee. He had to manually hack into their systems and hire a college kid to convert the data to csv files so he could devise a strategy. He would share with the corporate offices and they didn’t care. You had all this data on who bought what and when and where… they didn’t care. It’s a quick and fun read. I might revisit if. Lots of slap your forehead moments about things that seemed obvious.

Sort of like Sears could/should have been Amazon.

I use the term "thermostatic reaction" a lot, but this is a perfect example where the incoming administration, by ignoring that relative acceptance of diversity and inclusion, is absolutely susceptible to overreach and backlash. Most people aren't Stephen Miller or view the world like him, yet he will be a major voice in this administration.
