  1. I see a range of people who voted for Trump, some more problematic than others. Sure it would be nice if all voters did research and had critical thinking skills. And understood how much the Constitution was going to and now is being trashed. But I do distinguish between the gleeful fascist element and the lazy people thinking the economy would be better under Drumpf. At least the latter might be capable of learning a hard lesson, whereas the former are too messed up to redeem. Better citizenship from all would be the goal, and I am trying to remain a small degree of hope that a really significant part of the population can return to decency and honor in their voting choices. Not welcoming with open arms, not as sympathetic as I could be, but not casting all Trump voters in with MAGA Trumpers.

  4. Just my two cents, but I really think the Dems need to lean in on his embarrassing treatment if Ukraine a lot harder. JB Pritzker, who governs a state with late populations of Ukrainian and Polish Americans, seems like a good candidate to speak up on this.

  5. You don't have to give these people a seat at the table, they don't even want one, but the ask is to not mock them or scream in their face. You say "Yeah, he's a bad guy. Welcome to the party. Here's more information. MTU is right. There are people who are not engaged like we are in this. We go after dems for having purity constests and compliment the GOP for "coming home to vote". This is an example of that. You need their votes. It might make you feel good to say I told you so and **** off.... but where does that get you electorally? What is the goal? To scream or to win elections? I've blocked and snoozed a lot of liberals b/c I don't need a daily 4 page rant from Heather Cox Richardson or Occupy Democrats to tell me what I already know.

  11. What gets me is that we are the most powerful country in the world, and yet we are choosing to be a supplicant to a country with a GDP that is 14 times lower than ours (and lower than "51st state" Canada) And throwing the EU and Britain (who combined have a GDP 12 times larger) to the wolves. It's not just stupid, it's insane.

  14. I disagree. The Dems having been doing this "let's have a conversation" thing for how long? The notion that there's all these sweet innocent country folk who just didn't know better is bull****. Even poor "Ryleigh" or whatever from Baldwin. She basically wanted free **** for herself but didn't want those black or brown people to have it. Chances are she married a MAGAt and that's what changed her vote from 2020. She was also sexually assaulted as a teen and still voted for a sexual assaulter. But sure, let's present facts to these dolts. I mean, why don't we sit down and have a nice chat with those who were gassing and burning other humans? I mean, some compassion is in order. If y'all wanna buy the bull**** about it being about inflation or the lab leak or Biden's age, have at it. I'm sticking with the mocking, shaming and watching the face eating the traitors who knew exactly what they were voting for. When there's nothing left but bones and the leopard burping, they may start to reconsider their vote.

  23. I've been away from this thread too long. As for the "some semblance of an answer"...the answer depends on what one considers a "card". The winner COULD be outfielder Elliott Maddox, who played in 109 games with the Tigers in 1970 but is pictured capless as a member of the Washington Senators on his 1971 Topps card. He does appear as a Tiger on a stamp and on an oddball card...do these count? Similarly, catcher Gus Triandos got into 106 games with the Tigers in 1963 but is listed as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies on his 1964 Topps card (despite being pictured in a Tigers uniform)...does that count? Utilityman Kevin Witt made 93 appearances for the 2003 Tigers as a DH, first baseman, pinch hitter, and left fielder. He's on a promo card for the 2004 MLB Showdown card game...does that count? Moving forward in time, we find some players who could be outright winners. Casper Wells appeared in 100 games for the Tigers in 2010-2011 and has nothing to show for it. Forum favorite Jim Adduci similarly has nothing to document his 88 games in 2017-2018. Australian reliever Warwick Saupold pitched 82 times from 2016-2018 and comes up empty. Outfielder Alex Presley had 74 appearances in 2016-2017 but is missing in action. Also playing 74 times and never appearing on a Tigers card was outfielder Josh Anderson in 2009. Infielder Scott Fletcher played in 67 games for the 1995 Tigers but fell victim to companies limiting their production of players from bad teams to pull out of the "junk wax" era. A short skip away on the same team is Franklin Stubbs, with 62 games in a Tigers uniform going unrepresented. A second Aussie, Brad Thomas, pitched in 61 games between 2010-2011 but has no cardboard proof of it. A few other players have hit the 50 game mark with no Tigers cards, including catcher Ron Tingley (54 games in 1995), pitcher Louis Coleman (51 games in 2018), and pitcher Shelby Miller (51 games in 2024). So there you have it. Discuss.

  25. This is the first part of a few months of different boycotts-next up is a week of no Amazon. My hope is that it gets people to look for and buy from the smaller places, and to learn just how many brands are owned by a much larger company. It's going to take a lot of time to shift people's buying habits, but it's a good start.

  26. The goal for the D Party (and the anti-Trump movement more generally) right now is to push back against this administration in anyway possible and, in 2026, win a bunch of elections. That requires more voters - certainly when you look at the outcome in 2024, it even requires some folks who voted for him. You don't have to give absolution or anything, but when people feel like they were lied to and betrayed by Trump, the natural response for a movement that wants to earn back power and win elections would be to take whatever help you can get and deal with the next charlatan or huckster when they come. Or even work on policy in a way that makes it harder for the next charlatan or huckster to gain the kind of following that Trump did.

  27. Well, this is poorly worded too. He's in the running, if not the leading candidate, for 6th man of the year on a good team unless you think the Pistons aren't a good team which I'd take issue with. As I said before, the Pistons will need a better 2nd scoring option when they're ready to really contend and they need to be careful to not overpay but you're really downplaying the impact Beasley has had on the team this year.

  32. For better or worse, being a 1-1 pick comes with a set of expectations and privileges lots of players just don’t have. 1-1s get chance after chance to make good, long after other players have been spun out of the big leagues for similar outcomes. Not many players get to throw up sub-replacement numbers with a stone glove for three years as a starter at the easiest position to play and still get an honest fourth chance to make the same team’s starting lineup. In exchange for that privilege, as well as the privilege of pocketing $8 million before he even went to his first team meeting, he gets to endure an earful of **** for his ongoing terrible play and his inelegant comments in the press. It’s sad to see, but that’s how things roll in the bigs, and he has to more than just deal with it. He has to force a change to the narrative. He can do that only with results. Personally, I’m glad the front office threw down the gauntlet and publicly announced moving another player to his position. Maybe he shouldn’t be guaranteed a starting spot because of his pedigree. Maybe this is the kind of thing Tork needs to light a fire under him and to finally take seriously whatever he might not have been taking seriously enough before. It’s put-up-or-shut-up time for Tork, because this team is going places, and there’s no longer room to carry sub-replacement starters along the way. Best of luck to him. I want nothing more than for him to put up All-Star seasons with us.

  33. Donald Trump won the overall popular vote by 1.5% nationally, and by roughly 200,000 votes spread over three states (PA, MI, WI).... small, subtle changes in the electorate over the next couple of years can and will make a huge difference. It's not about the Trumpers, it's not about the "red hats" as you like to call them.... most of those people are just gone. But there's a slice of the electorate that doesn't follow politics as closely as your or I do, who maybe don't love Donald Trump but remember the economy as being reasonably good between 2017-2019 (memory holing how he ****ed up 2020). We pretend like these people don't exist, but they do.... The "leopards" and "FAFO" stuff is fast food for liberals, and it isn't without a modicum of truth, but in order to build a coalition to push back on these guys, there's going to have to be an acceptance of people who realize or admit that they were lied to by this administration. It's annoying, I'll be the first to admit it, but it's reality.

  36. I can only go back so far in the pages of this thread without messing with myself psychologically and emotionally, so if this has already been seen, here it is again. I can only stand just so much exposure to political social media, and although I don’t think we’re going to tame capitalism with boycotts, if this is the only thing I can do, I’m in. I’ve run into a number of people socially who are talking about this. I’m not going to buy anything Friday, although I might go to a Mexican restaurant tomorrow because I know the people there are good people and it’s a family owned place. I’m also going to go dead on social media and not even turn my TV on and for me this is not some sort of self involved conceit, it’s more or less what I’ve been reduced to and I’m admitting that this is what I’ve been reduced to right now. See you all in a couple days.

  37. Absolutely, but it's also not 49% of the voting population or whatever Trump got. I would love to peel some folks off of that group rather than push them to dig into their 'dear leader' and add to that 25-30% that is true MAGA.

  38. You are underestimating the amount of people who completely tune politics out and vote for the party they've always voted for. The amount of people I've run into the last month who know I'm a federal employee but have no idea what's going on at work these days has opened my eye to this. I'm not talking about courting the racist uncle who wears the MAGA hat to his wife's funeral.

  39. So, again, after nine years of Trumpers wishing nothing but the worst for liberals, it’s liberals who have the obligation to reach out to Trumpers, a group of people who take their emotional and social cue from a nihilist sociopath, in the mere hope that they will respond in a kindly and neighborly fashion? Liberals are the ones who are supposed to make peace with the leopards? That seems like a tall ask to me.

  40. Why is it Democrats are the ones who have to accommodate Trumpers and Republicans did nothing to bring Democrats to their tent after 2020? Trump called Latinos murderers, rapists, poisoning the blood of Americans, accused them of eating dogs and cats, and promised to deport them and they started flocking to Trump. This woman believed Trump more than Harris. She believed the white man and not the black woman. She even acknowledged what a horrible person Trump was and still voted for him. What are Dems supposed to do with these people? They've been warning them for 8 years.

  41. The Pistons just beat an NBA superpower with their only All-Star having a bad shooting night. Let that sink in. First I need to say that Beasley as 9th man on a good/contending team is a laughable take. This is a good team right now. The dude is a league recognized 6th man candidate who outplayed the other 6th man candidate handily last night. He's quite literally doing things this year that only Curry has done with his shooting percent on that volume. The "this is a bad team" stuff I keep hearing is simply doubling down on bad takes from the offseason and stubbornness to come off of preconceived bias. It's so easy to be a contrarian because only 1 team wins the title so you can always say "see, they didn't win it all", but bad teams don't do what the Pistons are doing night in and night out this season. And the best part is that the average age of the core players is 22. JB deserves coach of the year if this continues. Cleveland has been up and coming for a while and if you told people before the season that they'd win a ton of regular season games, it would have at least been in the realm of possibility. No way anyone would believe you if you told them what the Pistons are doing. No way in hell. He's got this entire team buying in on both ends. Guys like Beasley, Harris, and THJ that everyone ridiculed in the offseason for their defense are giving full effort on that end and making a difference. Every one of them had key defensive plays in that game last night. Speaking of which, its time to give Tobias some love as the solid vet floor-raiser many of us predicted he would be in the offseason. He's been very good for a while now. The three point shot could still use some work, but he's been clutch in so many other categories and is at the top of the league in +/-. And finally...Ausar. The last time I witnessed a Piston completely control a game without scoring was Ben Wallace. Ausar in the starting lineup has been that crazy. The number of steals, stops, extra possessions, and running opportunities he generates is unreal. This dude is a lock for All Defense first team every year if they ever let him start playing 30 minutes per night.

  43. Yes, the 1968 Tigers won with a home grown core, and so did the 1984 Tigers. And this feels like the first time since 1987 - holy cow, 38 years - that the organization has once again stumbled across the formula for sustained success. The Tigers will not win the World Series in 2025 but I am liking 2027 and I think Chris Ilitch will make us all shut the f up and keep Tarik Skubal here for the rest of his HOF career. 38 years, JHC. Bert that is more than half of our lives, that is unacceptable.
