  1. They don't even care about saving money, because they aren't. They care about skimming off the top.

  4. When did Ramaswamy ever do any actual hard work? Upper middle class parents, Ivy League schools, how does he know what actual work is. Get out from behind the desk and get a real job. Try laying that flooring six days a week and then talk about working to your 70s and 80s

  7. March 16 is a good date for “firsts” in the space program. Gemini VIIII launched on this day in 1966. It had two notable firsts involving a crew that performed their own “firsts” later on. Neil Armstrong and Dave Scott performed the first space docking. This was after Gemini 6 failed to do it because the target agent rocket had issues and blew up. Docking was a huge objective in going to the moon. Both in terms of physically being able to connect but in learning about trajectories and orbital mechanics and proving that the math and computers were spot on. Shortly after docking their combined craft became to roll. They undocked the agena and that made it worse. Almost a revolution a second. They had to activate the reentry control system to stabilize as nothing else worked. The problem was a stuck thruster kept moving them. This was the first in flight space emergency. It happened during a communication blackout and the crew themselves almost blacked out. They wouldn’t have survived. The flight lasted 10 hours and 6 orbits. The astronauts involved later had their own firsts. Neil obviously was the first to walk on the moon. Dave Scott was the first person to drive on the moon and also the first person to dock to a lunar module on Apollo 9. The egos of the astronauts led to rumors that some thought Neil “screwed the pooch” but obviously NASA management disagreed. Both guys were put into early Apollo assignments that led to commands of lunar missions and Dave Scott is one of 4 to fly in two Apollo missions. There would have been more if not for cancellation

  8. As soon as the season starts, I expect us to find out that Spring training performance means practically nothing just like every year.

  9. Jennifer Botterill is as dull as bathwater. If your HR department insists you hire a woman as commentator, at least find one with sass and energy, like that former gold medalist Tara Lipinski who does Olympics figure skating with her gay best friend on NBC.

  10. George and Ernie worked broadcasts together in the early 60's. As a kid I had a hard time keeping track of which of the two southern drawls was which. This thread led me to a story written by Lynn Henning a few years ago - almost all of which I already knew - except the part that Mel Ott had been Van Patrick's partner in Det before Kell. Had no idea Mel Ott had ever worked in Detroit. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2020/08/28/they-werent-close-but-kell-harwell-era-broadcast-booth-bonanza-tigers-nation/5616546002/

  11. Churchill used to say "change of work is rest" and a lot of managers inculcate themselves with that. As with many things people will use this sort of thing to leverage you and take from you more than what is fair.

  13. This is a key reason I turned down a chance to apply forthe board of a charity I’ve been delivering food for. I don’t want to have to concentrate on the business side of anything. I don’t mind speculating about it for fun, but I don’t have the energy to take on the responsibility of managing it in any capacity. All I want to do is drive to people’s homes, give them the food, make pleasant chit chat for a minute or two, go home after I’ve completed my rounds, and not think about it until I go back a couple days later.

  14. Do they need basket weavers anymore? I think we will move shortly into a regime in which everything going wrong red hats can’t blame on demmycrats, they blame on Musk, and continue to hold Trump 100% blameless. Currently we are still in the regime where red hats are thrilled at everything that’s happened so far, especially the destroying the government and making lots of noise about expelling immigrants as cruelly as possible parts, but pretty soon it’s going to hit them, and they have to figure out a way to exonerate Trump for any of it.

  20. Your doctor will be Dr. TELAIBOT from the prestigious University of Musk. Your medical experience will be not unlike what happens when you are on the car dealer's website looking for their service hours and a "person" comes on to chat with you.

  23. The explanation is simple. Doge only cares about saving money. It’s the only metric they use to judge their work. All they care about is the total dollars saved number. Doge doesnt care about what they are cutting. Elon believes that people should be able to take care of themselves and anyone who relies on the government is a freeloading drain on the system.

  24. One would think that a programmer/statistician could work forever, but sitting in a chair and typing all day long can take a toll on your body. Worse than that though, you begin to lose it mentally. In my case, I can still get my work done, but it's more difficult to focus and concentrate. Getting back into teaching the last few years has helped give me a break from sitting in the chair all day. It also does not take as much concentration and working with younger people is energizing. Doing both does add up to a lot of hours though! I stll think I can make it until 70 if our university does not get destroyed by budget cuts.

  25. I began to meticulously track my expsenses this year and already have become annoyed how institutions process transactions. I yelled at my wife for spending too much on Starbucks but I realized depending on which day of the week she reloads her card, it will show up multiple times, then resolve itself. You'll reload it on one day, it shows up immediately, then a few days later the same transaction shows up again with a different date, then that other transaction goes away after a period of time. I had to spend a probably 15 minutes yesterday making sure I didn't get it wrong. I had 3 transactions logged for every 2 legit. It's the same amount as she reloads it at work and she and a work partner take turns buying for each other so she couldn't remember. It's not critical as I am not doing any kind of audit and it doesn't really matter other than me being right or wrong when I try to yell at my wife 🙂
