Seeing betting lines when I go look up the box score. Seriously, you've got to be a total degenerate to gamble on exhibition baseball. Your finances resting on a lineup full of guesses.2 points

He needs a fresh start somewhere else. He had a great spring last year, but when Olson beat him out, something just snapped with him and the Tigers. It's like his whole career is at stake with every pitch he throws and you can't pitch like that.2 points

Watching spring games on TV is not so good either, unless you really like watching scrubini players being interviewed for an entire inning or more. Especially where they show a two-camera shot where the bigger frame is the player and the smaller frame is the game action. It’s even worse when they do that same shot during regular season games and the bigger frame are three guys in a booth.2 points

Maybe next year they should try not losing 13 games and losing to a 16th seed in the conference tournament.2 points

Following up… if he cares so much about Gibby why would he air his dirty laundry and jeopardize what he’s trying to do with his foundation? Are we to believe Gibby or someone close to him griped and Shep found out? Crappy friends if true. Everyone knows how vindictive the Ilitch family can be. That’s why I think he’s lying. Those around him wouldn’t do that. But Shep has to play “look what I know and you don’t” in his search for relevance.2 points

Those broadcasts are very long days. A lot of people think they show up 30 minutes before the game and just talk about baseball. Not if you are serious about your work and Gibby never half-assed anything. He was probably at the park before noon and probably didn't leave until an hour after the game is over. All that while dealing with the effects of Parkinson's AND the side effects of the Parkinson's meds. Those meds make people exhausted and then the Parky makes it hard to get real sleep. It's a Catch-22. My guess is the Tigers probably went to Gibby and said "Do you really want to put yourself through this so much?" and he probably agreed it was too much. Tough to see a spirited guy get so slowly cut down like this, but he did not sound good last year and I am not angry about that, because his insights were still pretty spot-on, but it made me sad to hear him struggle like that. He'll still be connected in some way.2 points

The more Trump’s behavior goes unchecked the more it gets accepted and copied. The maga Governor of West Virginia was butt hurt their team didn’t make the basketball tournament. Today, he calls a press conference with his AG announcing they are going to sue the NCAA. In a hat tip to his fuhrer, he has to berate and name call the selection committee as he speaks from dias with a banner of National Corrupt Athletic Association.2 points

It’s definitely time for Gibby to hang up the microphone, unfortunately. I enjoyed him in the booth, but the typical viewer is going to find him tough to listen to. Wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully the Tigers find ways to keep him involved- occasional tv guest, honorary assistant coach, etc. Baseball is something he loves and taking that type of thing away from an aging and sick person can be devastating. He’s done more than enough good for all of us and the organization to still have some type of regular role.2 points

Let's say it wasn't Gibby's choice to leave. You know what? I'm fine with that. There comes a time when all of us won't be able to keep up anymore. For most of us it will be age. Most people avoid this by retiring when they get the chance, but for those of us who love what we do, there will be a time where we just can't do it anymore and when that happens, the ones who don't recognize it will be asked to leave. It sucks for Gibby, but it was pretty clear last year that he was really struggling. Doesn't make the Tigers the bad guys here. They didn't do it for personal reasons, they likely didn't do it to save money, they did it because it was painfully clear. Parkinsons' Sucks.1 point

The Pistons sure know how to take care of business against teams they should beat. Outside of that Wizards slip up, the Pistons aren't just beating these teams they're pounding them. The issue is, as expected really, is that they struggle against playoff teams. 0-4 in their last 4, against Denver, Clippers, Warriors and Thunder. They were competitive in 3 of those games but it's indicative of a team that is likely a one and done in the playoffs. Wildly successful season either way but the bottom line is that I hope Langdon doesn't rest on his laurels this offseason and makes a push to bring in a significant player to team with Cade. I wouldn't hate it if they ran it back with this group and see where internal development takes them with a healthy Ivey but I feel like there might be a somewhat limited ceiling with this group in terms of championship contention. Anyway, that's looking ahead. Right now, this team is real fun to watch with an upward trajectory which we'll take over last seasons' disaster.1 point

Avoiding the play-in is going to be real nice for this team. Their last regular season game is on a Sunday, and the actual 1–8 playoffs will start that following Saturday. So they will get 5 days off to rest/practice, possibly 6 if their first game is Sunday. So the players should be well rested. It is also nice knowing their opponent right away. The 1 and 2 seeds have to wait and see who they get. The Pistons will know who they play once the final games end on Sunday. So they have 5 or 6 days to formulate a game plan and run some practices with what they want to do in game.1 point

I am thinking the 2025 AL Central will see 1st place through 4th place separated by only 5 or 6 games. Maybe even less. And with the Yankees losing Soto and Cole, I don't know if there's a 90 win team in the AL. We could see as many as 9 teams between 82 and 89 wins this year1 point

Another 33.3% might be showing some signs of effectiveness this year... although obviously that's only ST so we'll see... And I wish they would just get it over with and push Manning into a 1-inning reliever spot in Toledo. Just to see what happens. It might be nothing. But damn... just give it a shot and let him go all out, one inning at a time... and... see. what. happens. because. there is. nothing. to. lose. at. this. point. in. time. IMO.1 point

I appreciate the appraisals and analysis from you guys that know more (and actually watch more games) than I do. We’re all waiting for the breakthroughs that get us back to playoff and then contender hockey. Go Wings!1 point

I don't think it's up to him to let the world know this info. Maybe Gibby didn't want people to know and he's very capable of speaking up for himself.1 point

My first day in the Vanguard Total International Stock Fund (VITSX) was a good one (+1.78%). With all the uncertaintly in the US now, I decided to allocate a portion of my retiremet money to an international fund.1 point

In my 20s I had a lot of people tell me I looked like Gibby. It's tough to see him struggling because he was my doppelganger of sorts. In my late 30's people started telling me I looked like David Wells. That was wake up call to drop a few...dozen..pounds1 point

Gibby was in the park when we were in Sarasota to see the Tigers/Orioles game in February. The photo below was taken pregame. Not surprisingly his mobility was somewhat challenged but all things considered, very understandable. I stated this prior, he really didn’t need to be there (he should not have been there). He sat in the very hot sun off to our right for the first half of the game and moved up to sit in the shaded concourse after that. If he had anyone with him we never saw them. I honestly felt for the guy. Gibby leaving the booth is very unfortunate because of the reasons he’s having to do so. I enjoyed his contributions in the booth. I hope he doesn’t become invisible from this point on.1 point

Sorry to hear about Gibby. I have no more insight into this than anyone else. It’s painful to watch the slow decline of a Detroit icon. I at least know that.1 point
