If he wants too much, take the comp pick and develop more Skubals. If the Tigers stay revenue sharing recipients, you are talking 3 of the top 35 picks or so in 2027.4 points

Well, you go ahead, but I'm not going to worry about tomorrow or 2026 or 2027 or 2030 or any of that. That's for future me to worry about. Present me is going to enjoy having the best pitcher in the game today help us win a pennant this year.3 points

look, i come not to bury tobias harris but to praise him. but every time we brought up kat this year we all laughed about what a soft pansy ass he was and said we cant wait to see him play weak in the playoffs. and now that its happened - just like it happens every year - you say "what a great job by harris on kat." i mean, sure. but we all know - and YOU know - that kat is a pansy. that's why jb putting harris on him works. not because harris is bad or because harris is a lockdown defender, but because KAT IS A PUSSY. he wont post him up and wont be aggressive. i dont want to take anything away from harris. he's a soldier doing yeoman's work. he IS playing against a guy who is 4 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier and he's staying with him. that says something. and he stepped up when stew got hurt. harris has been a good teammate all year. he's been professional. he plays hard and not dumb. but he's still tobias harris. he's a 4th option forced to be a 2nd or 3rd option because ivey is hurt. and that's ok. he is what he is and right now he's contributing to a team that just stole home court. let's all be happy.3 points

I have a funny story from my commute home when Dingler hit the HR, whoever was listening on the OnStar heard “There’s your Six runs, Bert!”2 points

If hundreds of thousands of ciminals were let into the country, why did the violent crime rate not rise last year? I understand that there are logistical problems with allowing too many immigrants into the country at the same time, but they are lying about the violent crime wave. I realize that you guys know that!2 points

He's going to surrender and then announce that he made the best deal ever and his cult will believe him. He is so predictable.2 points

Exactly. You compete for chances at the prize, and with the projected rotation, you have a solid chance. You don’t give that up for the equivalent of 1 additional 1st rounder (assuming you lose him for the compensation pick). And in reality, you’d be lucky to get 2 top 100 prospects for 1/2 season of Slubal anyway if recent deadlines are an indication.2 points

If they are bound for the playoffs, then they can win the World Series especially if they have a couple of great starting pitchers. I don't think a team that is looking like they are headed for the playoffs would ever trade their ace at the deadline. I could maybe see them trading him before the season, but even that seems unlikely to me.2 points

The blacker and whiter it gets, the closer we get to openly rounding up and disappearing entire groups of people in plain view of everyone else, who will comment about what’s happening before their eyes at their peril.2 points

I really hope this puts to rest the Hendrickson nonsense. They can't afford him and they are going to reward their homegrown players.1 point

I played Edge Of Seventeen on the air this afternoon in honor of Dingler and told the listeners every time he hits a home run in a day game, I'm playing it.1 point

I don't know about other teams but the players seem to have completely bought in to what Harris and Hinch have asked them to do. Another thing I noticed is they seem to hold themselves accountable. I'm not sure if it's an individual thing and leading by example or if guys are vocal behind the scenes. That's something I've heard many times over the years about the '84 team. They held each other accountable and it elevated everyone's performance.1 point

Well put, balanced take and I totally agree. For what it's worth, I re-watched the game last night. I was going to do that anyway, but since we were talking about it I paid particular attention to KAT and Tobias. Harris actual did a phenomenal job of not leaving KAT to the point where he gave some open looks to other guys when maybe he should have switched. He was always between KAT and the ball, denying the pass and not letting him get any catch and shoot opportunities. That's the assignment against someone as soft as KAT. As far as KAT taking the ball into the paint. Three of his makes in the first half were against Cade (missed switch), Duren (prayer that went in), and Reed. He had a couple of nice post ups on Tobias, but Tobias also stopped him a couple of times in the paint. In the second half KAT had 3 opportunities in the paint. Tobias stopped him in the post on the first one in the 3rd quarter. Then, in the fourth quarter KAT had 2 chances. One was a post up and one was a drive. On both of them he was smothered by Tobias (and some help) so he had to pass out of them and couldn't even get a shot up. As you said, KAT could have been less of a punk and kept going to the paint to demand the ball, but we all know that ain't KAT. The few opportunities he did try in the second half were shut down by really good defense. We already agree on all this, but I just figured I'd post some details here since I re-watched it with this in mind.1 point

The highlight of Norris for me was his last start in 2016 when we still had an outside chance at a wc berth. I remember watching it and thinking that was one of the most explosive fastballs I had ever seen. Unfortunately that was one of the last times he had any sorta life on his fastball.1 point

I was pleasantly surprised to learn this the other day. Just didn't seem like he was Pope long enough, but he has been around longer than I realized. We have not officially left the Catholic church, but my daughters last year of catechism was awful and our priest would be happy to revert back to "MAGA" Catholicism. Apparently everything was better when folks showed up because they were afraid of being ostracized by family and community and just kept their head down while the priest gave mass in Latin. We haven't stepped back in that church since she was confirmed and I won't be going back there as long as the current priest is still there. Unfortunately with all the consolidation, he also oversees several other Catholic churches in the area, so we haven't even bothered to try and look elsewhere. I really hope someone that aligns with Francis' values is picked, we need those values to be celebrated again.1 point

Which is another way of saying that no-one will give up fair value even for a good pitcher even with a full year of control. Which argues that you might as well get the last year's value yourself, let him walk, and hope your comp pick turns into a serviceable player. I think you can do well with deadline deals with more average players, but not so much at the all-star level.1 point

I continue to be amazed at how differently I feel about the draft vs. just a few years ago. I mean the draft used to be this HUGE thing. We'd all be speculating... wondering about trades, thinking who might fall a few spots. Hoping the next first round pick in the top 10 (where the Lions often picked) was going to be the savior of the franchise. Now I keep forgetting that the draft starts Thursday. Look at our 2022 Draft thread: https://www.motownforums.com/topic/99-2022-nfl-draft-thread/page/58/#comments More than 57 pages of posts BEFORE the draft started! Now, 1.5 days from the start of this years draft and we don't even have 10 pages yet. I know the old joke was always about how the Draft was the Lions' Super Bowl... but man... being on the "other side" now (ie, having a good team) it feels like there really was a lot of truth to that joke.1 point

Before I get roasted, let me preface this by saying I'm perfectly fine if Brad Holmes stays the course and doesn't make a big time move for a guy like Trey Hendrickson. Brad has earned the right to keep on doing what he's been doing because he's been successful at it. So if Hendrickson never comes here that's perfectly fine. I also don't suspect he will be a Lion, so my hopes aren't really up at all. That said, I think the Lions can afford Hendrickson and still be able to resign Hutch though. Assuming the cap continues to go up over the next 2-3 years along with Goff's contract being restructured and likely letting one or two of their own marquee players go/get cut. Jeremy Fowler at ESPN reported Hendrickson wants around $30 million/year. The NFL cap went up an estimated $23.8 million in 2025 from last year. The cap going up whatever percentage creates an initial bucket of cap space. We don't know how much it will go up in 2026 or 2027, so that makes estimating the increase tricky. Assuming it goes up again by a similar percentage though, as it has the past few seasons, that gives you more flexibility. Restructuring Goff's contract gives you the next bucket of cap space and could net a decent amount of space. Cutting Taylor Decker in 2027 gives you around $17.8 million in cap space while only creating about $6.2 million in dead cap. Lastly, if you're trading for Hendrickson you are probably still letting Jamo walk and one of Branch or LaPorta in this scenario. Is Trey Hendrickson really that much of a difference maker? I'd say with 40+ tackles and 17.5 sacks each of the last two seasons suggests he can be. If we win a Super Bowl out of him being that productive of a player, will fans care if that means we lose Branch, Decker, Jamo, and/or LaPorta in the end? I'd suspect "geez but our cap and roster flexibility and the fact that Brian Branch and Taylor Decker are gone next season" would be on the minds of almost no fans if they were to watch Campbell hoist the Lombardi in the post game show. I don't think Holmes is mortgaging his future and giving up his own guys or his high end picks for Hendrickson. So this is all a moot point really. I just wanted to put out there what I think scenario might look like trading for Hendrickson.1 point

I’d love Hendrickson but Cincinnati has no need for Jamo. They already are spending way more on WR’s than anyone in the league after giving boatloads to both Chase and Higgins.1 point

I’m here to say this for today: I am very pleased to see RFK, Jr. ‘s move today to ban 8 food dyes. Thumbs up. This should have been pursued & done 20+ years ago. So, there it is. A positive review for one thing done by someone in this current administration.1 point

How is Hegseth not fired yet? I’m just sitting here reading stories regarding his bull**** answers….and how glaringly ridiculous it is that he’s in charge of the department of defense. What the ****? what the actual ****. He’s trying to make himself the mini-Jesus. Comparing his prosecution to his God Trump‘s persecution. my God . this whole administration is so beyond the pale. Where do we even begin?1 point

They would 100% sign Skubal for 6-7 years at $30 mill per.1 point

You don’t trade Skubal if you are leading the division unless your staff is stacked. Then you consider it. Otherwise you ride. The Tigers didn’t trade Scherzer in 2014.1 point

I don't know where the line is.... but I'm definitely uncomfortable with the encouragement of it... especailly with the in studio "bet of the day" or whatever they call it. Frankly I think the country's economy would be far better off if all forms of gambling, outside of Casinos in Vegas, Atlantic City, and real Indian reservations were gone. That includes lotteries, stratch offs, etc. I frequent my gas station a lot b/c I work from home and I enjoy going up to get a tea or coffee or banana. It's a nice 10 minute walk. The $$ I see spent on lotteries is insane.1 point

I believe it’s one thing to have informal bets with your buddies, or even visit a sportsook to lay a bet, but it’s completely different for leagues to partner with gambling companies to try to get as many people betting as much money on games as they possibly can.1 point
