  1. If anything, I wish he'd spend 100% of his time hosting UFC fights... and not, you know, things like cutting Medicaid.

  2. I hope the announcer was happy he went down to 1st during the challenge.

  3. I think SGL likely stays in the pen for 1-3 inning stints. I don't think Morton is coming out of the rotation until the postseason - he still had double digit K's in his poor start. Hopefully Melton and SGL will allow Flaherty/Morton/Paddock to have shorter leashes if they start to get into trouble.

  4. I know if rubs every manager the wrong way to do it, but they could probably keep using Flaherty if Hinch would put him on a really short leash. Of course do that and at some point you might as well make him a long reliever

  5. I wanted them to keep Melton in the rotation, so this was good to see today. I am not sure where they need him most at this point as both their rotation and bullpen need help. Just make sure you get a lot of innings out of him down the stretch.

  7. Harris has stated in multiple interviews that he will not promote a player out of need, only when he feels the player is developmentally ready. And he has stressed the process of developing through every phase of the farm. I don't see the top of the farm guys up with the team until next mid-season at the earliest.

  8. I am not a fan of these bullpen days. If you weren't doing everything possible to save Hurter, he could have been brought in at the first sign of trouble. For all the effort taken to save starters with these extra rest days via bullpen days, what good did it do Jobe and Olsen? This is different from last year when the bullpen days were out of necessity and the bullpen was a strength.

  13. Another factor is the 40 man roster. There are a number of players that are Rule V eligible this year that would need to be protected. They aren't promoting McGonigle before they are fairly sure he's ready locking up a spot on the 40 man (and starting his clock) and jeopardizing other depth they want to keep. (Remember, all those on the 60 day IL also have to be put on the 40 man after the season.) It may sound good, but McGonigle and Clark are going to spend the majority of next season between AA and AAA, if no major struggles, likely being called up at the end of 2026 (keeping their rookie eligibility) and then starting the season in 2027 giving the possibility of the extra draft pick.

  17. you're in Canada, aren't you? even if you're not in QC, maybe they only have one set of Canada-specific ads. I don't get too much weird stuff on TV, but when I'm listening to the radio on my phone, I get ads for "your San Jose Verizon dealer". I'm in Portland, OR.

  20. He is so unbelievably infantile. I just don't understand how any voter can listen to this epic case of arrested development and think it's a good idea to put it in charge of the local dog pound, let alone their government. If it weren't serious it would be funny.

  26. Tork gets the golden sombrero. We are seeing Anibal Sanchez redux this season with Flaherty. The one year Anibal had this incredibly low ERA up to about the 4th inning, but was just getting hammered every outing after that, and Ausmus just kept trying to get him through 5th. Just give it up and pull him after 4 AJ.

  28. And it worked because a lot of the pitchers used last year had minimal ML scouting reports. It was an ambush on our part. Now everyone knows what Hanifee/Hurter/Montero/etc are.

  32. This video was in my feed today: The TL;DRW version is this: The slide rule made sense when in 1985 when defenses has very little rules regarding how they could hit/tackle a ball carrier. But in 2025 stricter rules regarding how defense can tackle, and specific rules regarding how QBs can be tackled, make the slide rule far less necessary. Further, the video makes the case that the "side effects" of the slide rule out weigh the last lingering benefits. Specifically the video argues two points: 1. It's very hard for a defender who is already in tackle mode to make a split second adjustment if the QB slides. This means the QB may still be hit hard but the sliding position leaves him open for more injury vs. if he prepped for a "normal" hit. 2. The slide rule is being taken advantage of by QBs. Defenders don't know if the QB is going to slide or not so can't go all out for the (legal) tackle because if the QB slides a half second before you hit him it's 15 yard penalty. It's an interesting idea that I think has some merit to it. Given the very mobile QBs in todays NFL... I just don't think the slide rule was envisioned with them in mind. I don't blame the QBs for taking advantage of the rules if they can. That's definitely part of the game. But it makes for a less enjoyable game, imho, when you see a defender stop short of a full tackle because you know he's thinking about that possible penalty.
