  1. Replays that take longer than 60 seconds should stand. Stop putting dust under a microscope.

  2. I didn't think of that scenario. Unlike the Tigers players, I was being selfish and only thinking about the numbers and stats. Not once did I ever stop to consider Bert's feelings. For that, I am truly sorry. I do hope our guys in the dugout are keeping him in mind though.

  3. I think Red Sox fans are worse than Yankee fans, but that depends on whether you prefer self absorbed whiners with a victim complex or arrogant entitled assholes.

  5. We need to do everything in our power to retain Skubal. If he chooses to leave, then so be it….but him leaving shouldn’t be because we aren’t willing to give him what he wants to stay. 1.) He and Skenes are the top 2 pitchers in baseball. If any pitcher is going to get a huge contract- it should be them. Don’t worry about future injury risk unless that has been a frequent problem. Skubal had the one injury and surgery several years ago, and came back from it quickly and was almost immediately back to being impactful. Other than that, he has more than proven that he is sturdy and a workhorse. Not being willing to pay him a big contract and then instead bringing in 60 million a year in injury riddled pitchers you hope you can rehab makes no sense. 2.) This guy IS the organization. Just like Verlander before him. Allowing him to leave and go win elsewhere is a swift kick in the nuts to Detroit fans who have already seen so many of the players they’ve embraced leave and win. Stop kicking us in the balls. Be different this time, and if it doesn’t work—then it’s excusable next time. 3.) The pitching staff beyond him is not particularly stable. Flaherty will probably be back, and then you have a ton of guys who are still on rookie or arbitration deals. Mize/Olson/Jobe/Melton/Montero/SGL/etc. are all cheap, but most all of them have been fragile. So we need depth there, but we also need the consistent anchor. There really isn’t a true staff anchor ace available this offseason as of now either. If we didn’t have Skubal this year, we are a 4th place team in the division. 4. IF it becomes clear that he has no interest in re-signing with us for a mega deal, then you need to move him this offseason. Don’t wait until the deadline because we will be pressured to move him, everyone will know that, and we won’t get top value in return. In addition, half the teams in the league will be selling at that point, so our pool of best possible suitors drops substantially. Either sit him down this offseason and express our intentions to go all in for him and use that to gauge the likelihood of him staying, or trade him for a MASSIVE haul. Failure to do either of those two things should cost the entire front office their jobs, and if the problem is Illitch not being willing- then Tiger fans need to get real f’ing loud at him.

  6. With Tork, the adjustments he made for this year probably saved his career—so I can understand not trying to push the envelope too hard to try to get him to do too many additional things beyond what he has already improved on. You don’t want him to go away from something that has helped him overall, struggle with that, and then not be able to revert back to what he was doing and go back into last years form. This offseason you can probably push him to take the next step now that he has improved his contact rate, found his power, and improved his walk rate. Guys like Greene and Carpenter are a lot more frustrating to not have explanations for on what Tiger management is trying to do with them. They both were lighting up the baseball savant page, and now both have had an enormous drop in plate discipline and are completely selling out for power all the time regardless of situation.

  7. And while only throwing 5 pitches on Tuesday, Sabrowski pitched both Tuesday and Wednesday and threw 18 pitches today. So he isn't likely available for much if any tomorrow.

  8. My theory is that Greene and the coaches know he has to rework his swing. But doing it during the season may not be possible. Maybe he'll rework it during the off season? His huge amount of strikeouts may be the only thing stopping him from becoming a huge star.

  9. Game time subject to change, as far as I understand. The Padres are on their way to forcing a Game 3, in which case the Tigers would either be playing at 1:08pm ET if the other two series also get extended, or at 3:08pm if one or two series finish today. If the Cubs come back to eliminate the Padres today and the other two series also wrap up today, then the Tigers would play tomorrow night.

  12. What can you do if you're AJ Hinch? No one in your lineup is hitting right now. Now amount of maneuvering or playing the analytics will solve this problem.

  14. The aggressive base running is good, but it has to be across the board. If Dingler is sprinting home, he beats the play at 3rd. He let up when the throw wasn't coming home.

  15. Wow, both pitchers getting pulled by the fifth inning. They’re treating this like it’s a playoff game…

  16. The Tigers have killed themselves chasing the long ball. I don't really care what the analytics say on this question - it may be good individually for guys to chase the long ball, but the lack of OBP destroys a *teams* ability to pressure the opposing pitching staff. What is the stat for that? For instance, for for all the K's, the HRs mean Riley's wRC isn't down that much even though his OPB is in the toilet. Which means guys on base in front of him are stranded and guys behind him lose RBI opportunity.

  18. It was a horrible decision to go to third with 2 outs if it's even going to be close. Give the next guy a chance to drive you in from 2nd. If McKinstry can't score on a single to the outfield from 2nd, screw him. Just a low IQ play. There isn't that much of an advantage being at 3rd over 2nd with 2 outs, at least not a big enough one to risk being thrown out

  19. It's what drives me crazy about replay. Completely game, potentially series, changing call because a dude watching a TV was pretty sure enough the right hand was millimeters above 3rd base when the tag was applied.

  23. One of the main reasons they collapsed is because their core hitters did not make enough contact. That has to be solved in the short term and long term.

  26. Just the opposite for me. BoSox fans are orders of magnitude more annoying than Yankees fans, and Boston has has done more to hurt the Tigers in this century than NYY has.

  29. I dunno... I mean he's a decent QB and all, but his passer rating and accuracy are complete garbage when the opposing teams defense has their arms wrapped about him and are pulling him to the ground.

  30. It warms my heart to see Yankees fans being tortured at home. For it to be after bases loaded, no one out in the 9th, and against Chapman was simply perfect.

  35. A narrative was also created when he got dumped from the Rams. Goff was only 26 when he came to the Lions. Go look up Stafford when he was 26. His numbers were worse than Goff's. Goff really compares favorably to Brees. Did anyone say Brees is a product of Sean Payton? Did anyone always mention the elite running game he had with Ingram and Kamara? Did anyone mention the elite receivers in Cooks and Michael Thomas? How about the elite TE in Jimmy Graham? Or the 3+ Pro Bowlers on the offensive line?

  36. looking it again, I think it went under his glove. I'm going to guess is that what messed him up was Javy making the bounce throw already so low to the ground. Tork's muscle memory was probably expecting it bounce higher than it did and probably to be a harder throw than Javy managed. Still a great play by Baez and no justice at all to get an error on it.

  41. Speaking of ice cream, that’s really how this playoff appearance feels to me. A lot of people are mad at how the Tigers make the playoffs, which I have trouble truly understanding, since we are one of only 12 teams even in it no matter how we got there. (My buddy the diehard Mets fan knows what I mean.) But I will say that the way we got there has made me realize how precious it is to even have a chance in the dance. It almost completely slipped away from us, but by the grace of 1,000 gods, here we are. It’s another thing to appreciate just being able to have. Win or lose, I’m thrilled we’re playing today.
