those are patriots... hell, some of them may have served in the military and as we hear from folks here, that's a free pass to support insurrection and fascism. Some may even call themselves Christian.4 points

I predict today will be forever known as the Parker Meadows game. Jack White will be sitting next to Geddy Lee on Sunday while Mike McCready watches them on TV.3 points

I don’t get the dislike for Tork that I read and hear so often. To me on the eye test defensively he’s be good for us. Seems to be pretty good and picking the ball and has good footwork around the bag. Good enough arm and makes good decisions defensively. Offensively he’s always going to be a lower average guy imo but he works the count and although I think he could stand to be more aggressive I think he will benefit the most from being able to challenge pitches. Power numbers are good and he hits a lot of doubles. Also seems to be a good clubhouse guy that’s well liked. Sure he isn’t going to be the #1 pick we all had hoped for but I also think he’s one of the least of our worries on this team.3 points

Did I miss where this narrative of Mize being unhappy started? Or are we basing this out of him being pulled early and seemingly unhappy about it visually? if it’s because of last start I wouldn’t read to much into that. I assumed before the game even started he’d only go 3 or 4 innings and I'm sure he was told that too. However the competitor in him I’m sure wanted to stay in and then when it didn’t work out well I’m sure he was mad. That doesn’t mean he’s unhappy with the Organization or Hinch long term.2 points

I don't think that Torkelson will ever be an impact player, but he hits left handers which is something they already need. Losing him and Torres is going to make them even more vulnerable vs LHP.2 points

There was a discussion on "Banana ball" in one of the threads. They announced they are coming to Comerica Park next year. Reading some things I learned that there's a lineage between that format and the Negro Leagues. Those guys would barnstorm the country and were very entertaining in their play. I hadn't put that together. The founder of the league said he took inspiration from that. It sort of puts it in a new light for me.2 points

Why isn't there one ****ing reporter who will just tell him to his face that he's full of **** on this? Or that he's delusional? Like, nothing he says about Portland is actually happening, or Chicago for that matter, and they let him off the hook. Every single time1 point

I would offer the QO to Torres and Flaherty. The pick the Tigers get (if they are still getting revenue sharing money) if they decline would be pretty high with four of the final six picks in the draft being known the CBT penalty box and their picks being moved back 8 spots. That would like be a 26th and 27th pick or something in that range.1 point

In the playoffs he has been treated the same as anyone not named Skubal. Obviously they don't trust him as much as Tarik, and in these must win scenerios, Hinch is going to go with the matchups. Doesn't change the fact that during the season, they did trust him and needed him to get to this position. In today's playoffs, you don't need your starters to go 5-6 innings consistently, but you do need that in the regular season, and Mize gave that while showing much more than he has any season. I see him continuing to earn more trust.1 point

Also, which ones in these pictures of actual footage from January 6th were FBI Agents? Someone please tell me. I'm waiting for Lieutenant-Detective Frank Drebin to come in and do his great police work since he knows they were all just FBI Agents. Was it all these people smashing down windows to get in? Was it any of these people smashing through another window with flag poles and objects? How about these people fighting with the actual police, breaking down a barricade? Was the FBI fighting actual police officers? Was it this person, using bear spray towards police, was he an FBI Agent? Was it the guy here in the red hat, in the corner of the photo, and the people standing behind him who smashed a police officers head into a door? Was it this gentleman, Richard Barnett, who put his feet up on Speaker Pelosi's desk?1 point

Looks like in the phrase "Trump gets it done" the "it" is terrorist funding Republicans supporting pedos and terrorists. What a time to be alive1 point

I think it's simply muscle memory. They are conditioned to throw a certain way for a living. Having to deviate from that, especially so quickly, is hard for anyone. I think if anybody had to reptitively perform an action that required skill over and over then suddenly had to switch up the form on that, on the fly, without much warning, would screw up on a regular basis. Not an excuse but just an explanation. It's why so many pitchers will toss the ball to 1B underhand if they have time. Looking at that play again... did the runner touch the plate? If he had made a good throw it could have been a hell of an ending the other way because he beat the ball no doubt, but if he missed the plate and they went to review....1 point

Just like anything, it wouldn't be impossible to hack given you throw enough money and talent at the problem, but I suspect it would be quite difficult. Then you also have to hope that your efforts don't get discovered. And honestly if you're going to hire someone who unethical enough to take lots of money to do this, that same person may see that he could earn a extra chunk of money selling you out to MLB or media. Plus hacking the pitchcom is only half the battle. Next you have to find a way to reliably, secretly, get that pitch data to the player. This could be done with a sound or a light, but I don't think it would take too long for someone to start catching on to this. And you have the danger of your own teammates. This was how the Astro's sign steal scandal broke. Your pitchers might be loyal to the team and not talk about it, but once a pitcher moves to a new team, you think he's going to remain loyal to the old squad? You think he's going to want to face his old squad knowing that they hacked ptichcom and his pitches are going to be known? So, in short: Yes, it probably can be hacked, but the cost and effort would be high, and the risk of getting caught would also be very high.* (*Now the players may not care... I mean look at how none of the players in in Houston Scandal got even a slap on the wrist. They might go along with it for temporary glory. Honestly, not even the front office or manager suffered extensively.)1 point

I don’t know if they’re back to “firing on all cylinders.“ The way they were playing before they fell off the edge of the Earth seems like a fever dream now. But I think they’ll win this game one way or another. It just seems unlikely the Tigers could lose with Skubal on the mound a fourth time.1 point

This year is a reminder you need 8 starting pitchers. Flaherty has an interesting decision to make. Don’t think you could get anything better for a 1 year contract so I prefer him coming back. skubal, Olsen, Mize, Melton, Flaherty (or replacement FA) with Urquidy, Jobe, SGL, Montero as depth seems perfectly fine to me. Verlander would actually be a great fit as a reliable arm and maybe helps you limit innings for Melton and/or Jobe if necessary. Bigger issue is the offense. McKinstry, Baez, and Wenceel are best as bench pieces. There is going to have to be a trade with Max Anderson, Jung, Lee, plus Ibanez and Vierling all competing for bench spots.1 point

Have to upgrade the offense somewhere. Greene (LF), Dingler (C), Keith (2B), Carpenter (RF/DH) seem fairly safe bets. I would guess that Baez (SS) is safe, too, until McGonigle is ready. I doubt they would upgrade there. I’d put Tork (1B) and Meadows (CF) as likely, but vulnerable to an external upgrade. The obvious positions to upgrade and bring in new talent are 3B and RF/DH, again. Also, probably a good reason that we held on to our position prospects who could be banging on the door next season, including Malloy, Jung, Anderson and Lee. Will Harris largely run back this combination of options or seek other help?1 point

He'll carry that memory for the rest of his life. Philly fans can be brutal. And baseballs blunders have a long shelf life. Just ask Fred Merkle, Fred Snodgrass, Mickey Owens, Bill Buckner, Donnie Moore, Sal Maglie, Abbott and Costello, the Mighty Casey, Jim Joyce.........1 point

I do think it’s likely only location Naylor was tipping if anything at all. However, he could have potentially seen a tip, whether a grip or what Mize/Holton did on a certain pitch and was tipping that. Again, highly unlikely, but a runner on 2nd would have a better view of a pitchers hand in his glove.1 point

Skubal pitched very well in his last start against the M's. The M's haven't done anything to 'solve' Skubal. The Tigers just need to score, which they would need to do in any game. The Skubal vs the Ms narrative is a nothing burger. EDIT: ditto to LordS1 point

I don't think Mariners v. Skubal is a big enough sample to even think about regression to the mean in any meaningful way1 point

It’s electronic. The catcher has an electronic pad with different pitches assigned to buttons. He pushes a button and the pitcher hears the pitch in an earpiece.1 point

I get emotional about that game every time I see it. Maybe it was because of my age at the time, but it was the most unforgettable game I have ever seen - better than the Ordonez homer, better than the Gibson homer, better than any of the no hitters,...1 point
