  1. After all the work that's been done on her, maybe they consider her as being 'made in America?'

  5. This is kinda where the Emily's of the world blowing smoke up people's butts about Dixon Machado or Brock Deathrage leads people to think all prospects fail. McGonigle is generational and the best Tigers position prospect of my lifetime. Could he fail? Yes. But lumping him in because others before him took some lumps is overly simplistic. McGonigle is on another level, and I don't think that is emphasized enough.

  9. I get a kick out of Beck because he's been around for three decades and still looks like he's in college. It's amazing how long he's been around without pissing people off too. He doesn't really do anything except calmly confirm any important Tigers news. When he talks, you know it's true.

  13. Mooseheat - that's a name from the past. Years ago (many) a buddy of mine and his wife went to Mooseheart to visit someone or somebody, don't remember. It was there they ran into Art Carney of Honeymooners fame. He ended up at the same hotel and they sat in the room and drank and ate until 2 am. They said Carney was a hoot and a great guy. That had to be a ball.

  19. I grew up yards from a municipal airport runway. In hindsight it was a miracle we never got clipped. My brother says he remembers seeing airplane wreckage in the woods we used to hike in. The NTSB does have a database of plane crashes. So many are single seaters as a result of pilot error/hubris. https://www.ntsb.gov/Pages/AviationQueryv2.aspx

  23. IDK about that. Outside of Stavenhagen and Jason Beck I'm hard pressed to think of any Det baseball writer that hasn't doesn't get savaged here. Back in the day I think Tom Kowalski was pretty widely liked, but that's been about it.

  25. I would argue that a lot of people are nice to Waldon because she's a woman which makes some posters push back. They rail on Lynn Henning and Chris McCosky (Hackosky) all the time. There is a whole thread here dedicated to making fun of McCosky. Jerry Green was another one.

  27. I have seen pictures of that Grand Canyon glass bridge. I can't imagine!!! I think it would be a ball, but I just can't... Funny, the first time I flew was about a week after the 1982 crash in DC when the plane went in the river. Had to fly into the same airport. Oh goody! We know they are going to come down, that's a given. We don't always know how. And over the years my flying experiences have not been very good anyway. Then, you have people that jump out of them. Are you nuts?

  28. Interestingly enough the height aspect never really bothered me even though I'm nervous on ladders. I was a traffic reporter. The chopper pilots were veterans, the airplane guys were basically kids working to collect enough hours to get a better aviation job. We had a couple of :"incidents" that in hindsight give me pause (declaring an emergency into the old Navy Airfield north of Chicago to avoid a thunderstorm). A about a year or so ago wife and I took a trip to Las Vegas. The trip included a helicopter trip to the north side of the Grand Canyon, basically tribal territory. I enjoyed it tremendously. We landed in an area near the Canyon, and had a chance to go walk on the Glass Bridge over the Canyon. That was a bit nervy at first, looking at that big drop below (We were safe, but the illusion was interesting. Back to the flying experience. Chicago does an Air Show every Summer on the Lakefront. One year some promotion person had the bright idea to have the "Air 78 Squadron" do a flyby down the lakefront. I'm not sure how they managed to actually get that passed the FAA. They did make us fly single file only along the route (3 Cessnas and a twin engine plane from the flight crew). During this I was supposed to "chat" with the radio station anchors doing the radio "play by play" Anyway we're heading down over Lake Michigan at about 500 feet and I'm describing whai I'm seeing. One of the producers tells my wife who was managing the broadcast "he sounds good" Her reply, "he's ****less"

  30. I don't know the details of this yet, but he was a pilot. I don't remember when it was but when NC got flooded he took his own helicopter to help people who were stranded. Sad story, seemed like a great guy. How former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle helped Hurricane Helene victims

  32. yeah - In the NBA, trading for guys you don't want just to get the *cost* of their contracts is one of the weirder things in pro sports.

  33. I guess I am fortunate not to have Emily Waldon living in my subconscious. Fans of all teams pump up their prospects way too much. In reality, the Tigers have had ****ty prospects for most of the last 40 years. I am glad they finally have some legitimate ones.

  34. The entire idea is to get us outraged over the impossibility of the math and to argue about that so we will see past and not discuss the horrific results of the policy lying underneath. When we focus on stuff like this, we are chasing the laser pointer.

  35. Basically, I've been hearing the same old Bears song for about 35 years at least. They have the old race track in Arlington Heights. Either build it there or sell the property. The song and dance of pro teams getting the cities to build there infrastructure has got to go. Build it or sell the team

  36. I do agree that Avila was terrible, but I don't think Harris deserves much credit for them making the playoffs the last two years. I give that credit to players plus Hinch and Fetter who were already in place before Harris took over. I don't see any remarkable contributions from Harris to those teams. And that's not really a knock against Harris since I know he's trying to develop from within which takes time. I think we'll see big contributions from Harris in coming years. Even if Harris turns out to be a cookie cutter analytic GM, he'll still be a lot better than Avila and most of the other GMs they have had in my lifetime.

  38. There's probably an obscure NFL rule just for the Lions that if you exit the end zone on your own accord and re-enter the field of play you are continuing the process of the play so if you then take a knee at the 1 the points will be taken away and you'll be marked down.

  40. Browsing reddit, I saw a great idea for the next Lions TD celebration. Whoever scores runs over and takes a knee at the 1 yard line while the other players all signal TD. 🤣

  42. Our beat writers and bloggers might be the worst in the majors. I can’t think of a single one that is even remotely good. For the record, Stavenhagen sucks as much as the rest. He’s just so damn vanilla it’s hard to muster up sufficient vitriol for it to register. Petzold may have exceeded McCosky in my hack index. Probably because he continued to associate with sportz for as long as he did, and now he’s a callow facsimile of his mentor.
