  1. God was using Times Roman because Calibri is too woke and 10 were all that would fit and still be legible to nomads with no bifocals. Everybody knows that.

  3. You will be fine. Your views on the current mess will be welcome. You are not there to defend this mess. You'll learn a lot about the people you meet. A lot of racism in Europe exists for sure. The further east you go the more racist in general. The more they had US troops stationed there during the Cold War the less racism. Not true in every case of course. Many of the people in the East have traveled to the US now or had kids go to university, but go to rural Romania or places where things are just a layer of modernity painted over how things were in the 1930s and even further back and you'll see some very unprogressive views on things.

  4. Exactly. There’s the “equation” of a trade. And who is going to offer what right now? Is it better than a compensation pick? But there’s also 2026 to consider. The Tigers are a playoff team with Skubal. Any playoff team can win the World Series. I get wanting to move a one season guy for possible future production.. but it seems to me like they should take advantage of being a playoff team now. It was a tough time getting back to the postseason. Take another shot at the ring with a top of the league pitcher whilst he’s still here in Tiger clothes.

  5. Don't forget about being white and a man too. White men get off way easier than Somali-American people. If they weren't black Trump wouldn't give two ****s. He doesn't care about Brett Favre, Ted DiBiasie and his son, or any of the dozens and dozens of hucksters and fraudsters he has pardoned. Trump hates black people at his core. He likely believes all the usual tropes and stereotypes about blacks. Those he does keep around are tokens and for photo ops to prove he is not some racist. There's a reason though you haven't heard him say jack **** about the $80 million welfare scheme in Mississippi but you have heard him groaning on about the fraud in Minnesota.

  6. i disagree with most of that except for the part about baseball. baseball has so many salary constraints that favor owners its ridiculous. so many constraints that help smaller markets already. the mets spent more money than god last year to win a total of 83 games. only 4 more than the bottom feeding, cheap ass marlins. the mighty market of milwaukee won 97. yes yes yes the dodgers. oh no! the pirates couldnt sign a 33 year old corner outfielder with declining stats. someone please think of the children! if anything, the current system is TOO owner friendly. it lets owners off the hook for not investing in their product while quietly sucking up "revenue sharing" money from teams trying to win. i am no fan of unions, but if i'm the players here, there is no way i let them do a salary cap. and i dont think the owners will die on that hill either. they know they have a good thing going. there are much more pressing issues to address than player salary constraints and growing labor coats, the players have largely lost on those issues already.

  7. The Hedy Lamarr doc is simply incredible. It is on Netflix right now. This trailer doesn't really do it justice.

  8. I could see cases where he gets the DoD to seize ballots and once that happens…. All bets are off. We will have elections like Russia does. There will be a declared winner but the accuracy will be in doubt.

  9. I don't know if this has been mentioned here, but Dombrowski's original analytics guy, Director of Baseball Ops, Mike Smith is on Twitter and is an interesting follow if you are into the roster minutiae without the smug that I bring.

  11. My intention has been to go to Europe this spring because, ironically, I had put it off last spring because I wasn’t sure how the Trump thing would go over there, and it had been looking like it was going to be OK to do so this year. Now I’m not so sure about this spring.

  12. I’m with you on zero credit card debt. I’ve practically never carried any, training myself to avoid it by carrying Amex charge cards instead of interest-charging credit cards, and going without instead of going into debt. It’s been good training for managing my spending during retirement. I have only one credit card, a high-quality Chase bank card, and again, I pay it off every month like a charge card and pay zero interest. I use the card for (1) convenience; (2) points (cash value of 1% of spend); (3) benefits like automatic warranty extensions; (4) protections in situations like travel and car rentals mishaps; and (5) running interference against dodgy vendors trying to screw me out of refunds, and I did so just this week against the streamer Britbox, which offers zero human contact on their side. I don’t know how much longer Chase and the majors are going to provide these advantages, since the more powerful and concentrated industries become the less customer service they feel compelled to offer, but I’m going to take advantage of them while I can. I would advise anyone to read the benefits guide that comes out with their credit cards at least annually and get familiar with what they are and when to leverage them.

  13. Nice job to every ****ing clown who voted for this clown. I thought we were more respected than ever around the world? By the way, if we do invade Greenland, I expect every big mouth, fake tough guy in MAGA to enlist. What an absolute ****ing embarrassment this all is.

  14. Adding a roster spot solely as a negotiation chip might degrade the quality of play slighthly, but adding a player in order to allow more strategic substitution without worrying about running out of players, might improve the quality of play. Teams carry substantially more pitchers than they used to carry and it has not necessarily degraded quality of play. One could argue that top starters sometimes get pulled to soon, but in general fresh relievers pitch better than tired starters. One could also argue that bigger pitching staffs have contributed to higher strikeout totals and has necessitated all or nothing batting approaches. That might be considered a degration of quality aesthetically, but not in performance.

  16. A bigger roster would degrade the quality of big league play because, by necessity, they’d have to conclude players on the roster considered not good enough to make them now. So would expansion, for that matter. The $64 question is, can the game withstand such quality decrease? Meaning, is the quality of play high now, versus historical norms? I think it is, but it would be more so with more balls in play than there is now.

  25. I would bet the next MLB signing isn't until February when you can just 60-Day Jobe and not make a 40-man roster move. Every 40-man move now hurts, and unless you are shopping at the top of the market, there's diminishing returns. Unless, the free agents force your hand...

  28. Last night at an open mic, the guy sitting near me, whose ego is so unbearably out of control that no one wants to play music with him, was criticizing a performer because a chord he played “should have been a minor chord”. Just shut up and appreciate that this guy has the balls to perform live in front of strangers. I told him that he should go up and perform a song but, of course, he had a list of excuses for why he couldn’t (including “I don’t have a guitar” despite the fact that there were a half dozen high end guitars that anyone could utilize).

  36. I think he left because he knows he can't fix things. Their OL sucks. Their main WR is a head case. They spend too much money on an over-aged defense that didn't perform, and likely won't in the future. The OC play calling is awful. Their QB if he comes back, is over the hill and can't move behind a line that can't block. Tomlim probably knows next year will be worse and so will the boo birds. I don't blame him.
