For lo the winter has past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; The time of the singing of birds is come, And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.7 points

Announcers fussing that Tigers should be nervous about turning SS over to a 21 year old McGonigle...apparently they're too young to recall a 19-20yr old Alan Trammell. 18 year old Robin Yount. Etc - I would think with the advanced training that kids would be MORE ready today.3 points

Judge hits a Spring Training home run off a 35 year old pitcher who has a career ERA near 6 and the Yankee announcers are pretty much declaring him MVP for 2026.2 points

My brother-in-law who died at age 92 last year grew up in Shenandoah Pennsylvania and was a high school baseball pitcher to whom the Pittsburgh Pirates offered a contract right out of high school and I’m assuming he would’ve started in a class D league had he accepted. He declined the offer because he was smart, good at math and science, and he instead joined the US Air Force during the Korean War becoming an electronics engineer. He did this to get the G.I. bill so he could go to college and ended up working for IBM and writing code and stuff all the rest of his working life. He was an astute baseball fan, and when I went to games with him, his focus was so intense you were eveloped in his bubble of enthusiasm and perspicacity.2 points

Still holding out until the end of March when T-Mobile gives us the MLB App again. One of the perks of living outside the Market2 points

Maz was an integral member of that Pirates team that broke the 33 year drought for the Pirates. To an eight year old kid from Western Pa (somewhere between McKeesport and Irwin) Maz was probably my favorite player. edit Just wanted to add my with had a conference in Pittsburgh in 2024, while she had meetings I took a pilgrimage to the old Forbes Field site. It's part of the Pitt Law school, I believe, or at least home plate is implanted there. Left Field wall is nearby,2 points

I work across the street from msg so I made sure to wear all my gear. Now if I would have worn it Thursday instead of Tuesday and not gotten the date of the game confused, it would have been an even bigger hit2 points

Random randomness… 1 ). Since moving here to Delaware in October, I’ve learned how to play mahjong and canasta, am part of a book club @ my local library, joined a “meet up” group, & enrolled in the continued adult education group @ the University of Delaware (- 3 classes). I have met quite a few people. 2 ) I am missing my friends so much. Having a hard day today. Very hard.1 point

A young hitter going with the pitch and hitting a single to the opposite field is a glorious sight to see. That's excellent hitting...1 point

One of the things Dan Dickerson just mentioned is that with the WBC we’ll likely see a lot more of the young guys than we would have otherwise. I’m cool with that.1 point

When I say he'll probably start at some point, that means I am assuming there will be injuries. A team should have 8 viable starters at the beginning of the season. I think he's one of the 8 along with Melton , Anderson and the top 5. Melton and Anderson would probably be ahead of him. A couple of them may start in Toledo.1 point

Dan D. on the radio feed said that the ABS at the minor league level generated one extra walk per game. If you do that at the major league level, that will have an effect on pitching staffs in terms of the duration of outings during a game and all sorts of stuff I’m assuming.1 point

That is funny because I have my own 85% rule which I like to follow. I just made it up myself 21 meals per week - 18 healthy ones and 3 not so healthy. That is roughly 85%. It seems to work for me.1 point

LaGrange starting for the Yankees today, so of course I thought of this. And the guy without the long beard is named Beard, because of course.1 point

Bill Mazeroski died. He’s noted for his game 7 1960 World Series 9th inning walk off homer against the New York Yankees. I had both of these baseball cards when I was eight years old. But like my innocent youthfulness, they have also departed. I had already become a Tiger’s fan by the time these cards came into my possession in 1961. I knew the Yankees were the main enemy because they were always ahead of the Tigers in the standings in 1961.1 point

So now our government, through a duly-appointed representative, is relying on the authority of unknown authors from thousands of years ago to advocate essentially conquering the land of other nations in the Middle East today on behalf of a foreign terror state. Outstanding. But hey, what do you expect from a government that allows one of its most highly-placed member to brag without consequence about snorting coke off toilet seats?1 point

Good. Let him burn as many bridges as he can. It won't be the last decision this court has to make that affects him, but he's too stupid to think strategically - which is something to be thankful for.1 point

Thanks. I dont care if I have to stream it but I'm not even sure if YouTube TV carries channel 20. But I do have an indoor antenna I bought to watch our local channel 7 (ABC) for Monday Night Football when YouTube and Disney were spatting. The antenna picked up a ton of local channels but it didnt have the better features like pause and FF. I guess I really dont wanna go back to the 1980's technology to watch baseball. Ans with the season quickly approaching, the Tigers need to let their fans know what's going to happen. Many older fans aren't real tech savvy.1 point

I don’t get to watch this game, or any spring training game not on MLB Network, because my access to MLB.tv is tethered to my Directv Extra Innings package, which does not kick in until Opening Day. And, inexplicably, MLB Network is not running the Yankees game.0 points

Well after bragging about my generally excellent health at age 74, three days ago I suffered a visual impairment that implied a possible stroke (which implies a host of bad results) or a detached retina (which implies possible blindness). Four or five times in the last 20 years I’ve stood up really quickly and saw shooting stars and weird images that got burned on my vision - it’s sometimes referred to as a visual migraine or ocular migraine - and it was kind of frightening because if these images stayed there forever it would be awful but they went away after 10 minutes. Monday morning around 2 AM this happened again for the first time in three or four years but part of the image never went away and never will and is burned into my vision in the left eye forever. My doctor tested me for evidence of a stroke of which there was none and sent me to an ophthalmologist which allayed my fears of a detached retina. When I’m looking through my left eye only it covers about 1-12th of the visual area of my left eye. It looks like a childish drawing of a ball of yarn. When I’m looking through both eyes it seems like a mild shimmer at the very bottom of my vision. I know other people to whom this is happened and it doesn’t affect driving or reading and your brain does you the favor of overlooking it as a problem after a while. so the next time I think of bragging about my health I’ll be more circumspect about it.0 points
