Honestly, what purpose did this post serve. He doesn’t want to debate or discuss with you. Nothing you say will resonate with him. He wants exactly the response that you just gave him. He loves that he’s bothered you to the extent that you took the time to reply. He will continue to post incendiary tweets and his own hateful ideas as long as people engage with him. If nobody responds to it then he will eventually get bored and move on to troll libs somewhere else.4 points

The de-humanization of undocumented people is just gross. These are people just like you and me - these are people who have fled their own country for reasons such as political/gang violence or extreme poverty.3 points

Why bother? He'd just be replaced by another red hat athlete. Most professional athletes, especially the white American ones, are ardent red hats. If you want to be a fan of big-time sports, you can't allow yourself to set a bar of no MAGA ever for your teams because you can't ever have that. Either disassociate the player from his ideology, or give up following big-time sports. Simple as that. You're rooting for the player, not the person. Difference.3 points

For as much as fans wanted Harris’s priority to be supercharging the offense by acquiring proven major leaguers, it’s worth remembering that last season, with essentially this same team, the Tigers’ offense finished 12th in wOBA, above the midpoint, but also, 7th in wOBAcon, 9th in xwOBA, and 5th in xwOBAcon. Not for nothing, they also finished 11th in runs, and were 8th before they slid. And they did this with one of the youngest offenses in baseball. This means they are doing the right things to score, and there’s still room for growth. Harris will get raked if the offense goes splat this year, and he’ll have earned that as the guy responsible for it. But the way things looked after their performance last year, standing pat on the core position players, if that’s what we end up doing, will have been a reasonable decision to make. Of course, there’s a lot of time between now and March 26—one month from tomorrow!—to make a move and finalize the roster. But I won’t be disappointed on that day if we don’t.3 points

Jefferson didn't say "some" men are created equal, and he was just channelling St. Paul who said "all are one". So whether you fancy yourself an American or a Christian, there is your fundamental value staring you in the face whether you like it or not. Too many today want to claim either title without accepting the responsibility to be what it demands.2 points

The good news is that the Knicks and Cavs are now tied. Hopefully the Cavs can pass them up and duke it out with Boston in round 2 while we get our revenge on the Knicks who I think are a much better matchup for us than either of those other teams.2 points

Sure, they never expected us to descend towards authoritarianism and to turn on our allies, but as far as personal behavior goes, they were right on target. Amereicans are loud, arrogant, self-absorbed, shallow, ignorant and unserious people. In that respect, we got exactly what we deserved.2 points

There are and have been legal ways to deport those who overstayed or came in illegally. Obama was quite successful in doing it the proper way. Check the numbers1 point

When it comes down to it we are all immigrants. Unless we can trace our roots to this continent before 1492, or say 1619 in what is now Virginia1 point

About 40% of undocumented immigrants came here legally, but their work or student visa expired. I understand the overstay is still illegal, but these aren't rapists and drug dealers. In fact, only a small percentage of undocumented immigrants are serious criminals. I don't think many would protest if they quietly removed that small percentage. That does not require invading cities and disrupting and endangering the lives of everbody in the city1 point

Yes, people accused marothformvp and Stan and Archie of being trolls in the past, but I don't think they were capable of being better. MAGAholic has always been prickly in this forum, but he was once a reasonable poster. Now, he has made a a conscious effort to agitate people with every post he makes and is deliberately just being a trouble maker. That is why he is the first person I put on ignore in a couple of years.1 point

Maybe it's because I don't consume as much news media as I used to / use social media less, but people overrate how important these speeches are and how many people actually watch Further, Donald Trump is the most known figure in politics today and is polarizing beyond belief. Everyone has an opinion on him. The downside to that is that he has a hard floor politically, but the flip side is that his ability to sell those who disapprove of him (which is what he needs to do to help his party) is near impossible at this point.1 point

That isn't a Detroit specific problem. Only 19 players attempt >3 3PTA's per game that qualify as a center. Of those 19 only 10 shoot over 36% and two of those guys haven't even attempted 100 shots yet due to injury. Of the 19, only 4 guys make more than 2 per game. A big that can shoot well is pretty rare in the NBA.1 point

I predict no less than 50 times the same redundant Harris/Avila argument comes up randomly in threads from now through the end of September. Please don't take this as an invitation to repeat the same banal arguments from other threads.1 point

They primarily lost this game because they shot 19% from 3. Pistons are a poor shooting team, but this was far worse than normal. Credit to Spurs defense, but they also missed a ton of wide open looks. On the other end, the Spurs were hitting their open 3s. That said, this was a 1 point game with 8 minutes to go in the third when JB and Ausar got into it over a missed defensive assignment and JB benched him for the remainder of the game (as reported by Ku). JB covered it by saying that it was because Ron was playing well, but that was obvious B.S. Never mind that the team was better on offense when Ausar was in the game, and obviously better on defense. Never mind that the 4 times they tried to put Wemby on Ausar and have him roam, we scored on three of those possessions. Never mind that Duncan Robinson gets cooked every time they go after him or that Careless Lavert dribbles it off his foot or that Daniss was having an off night. None of that matters, but let's make an example of the best perimeter defender in the league and our second most impactful player on the team. JB is an absolute terrorist when it comes to Ausar. It cost us the first round series last year and it has cost us (or nearly cost us) numerous times already this year. It has to stop. I'm not saying they would've won with him on the court, but it certainly would've been a much closer game with a few extra stops, a few extra possessions, and some easy transition buckets.1 point

Because we were struggling to guard the Wemby pick and roll. He would dive to the paint and we had 2 guys collapsing on him to body him up so he couldn't just dunk it. That left dudes wide open on the perimeter and the recovery wasn't fast enough.1 point

Pitchers are valued for their ability to induce high levels of swing and miss, because they can’t give up hits and runs on balls that don’t get put into play. That’s always been the case, but that ability was considered special and limited to a small percentage of pitchers. Science has allowed more pitchers to figure out how to get much more swing and miss, and that requires a kind of max effort from most arms. But that’s where the money is, so pitchers will gladly risk their arms falling off for a chance at the big payday. Seems to me the thing to do is to change the game to reduce the need for swing and miss. Not eliminate it, just reduce it, to the same degree it was when a teams averaged 130 homers instead of 190. That way, it wouldn’t be so horrifying for a pitcher to give up contact. That sounds like changing the ball to me, which I’ve advocated for more than a decade now, but maybe there’s more to it, I don’t know. But there’s got to be something that can be done to eliminate the idea that a permanently shredded arm is a mere occupational inconvenience. Of course, chicks still dig the long ball, and Baseball makes a lot of money off that, so it would take some real business discipline to strive to put that genie back in the bottle.1 point

Some have said that. I wouldn't make that claim but I don't think it's outrageous to say that Avila deserves a good deal credit for the roster and I don't think there is an accurate way to say how much1 point
