  4. Except that that is exactly what Israel is doing today in the West Bank. The State of Israel has bought and paid for the critique they are getting. Having sympathy with anyone is dubious when there are no good guys. 🫤

  7. Israel responding to being attacked is not a genocide. It’s been 2.5 years now and Gaza still exists. Israel isn’t that good at doing a genocide. This is a right wing op. Why did the protests largely stop when Trump took over? Trump has been worse for Gaza but they still follow Harris around protesting her instead.

  8. israel is not a "colonizer" state. the situation in gaza is infinitely complicated by all the actors directly involved and those tangentially involved. israel lives next door to multiple states who base their entire existence upon israel's destruction. its in their founding documents, for god's sake. THAT is the underlying issue. the inability of "the palestinians" (really, the leadership of certain ethnic groups in the levant and iran's proxies) to move on and stop treating their people as human martyrs to the cause of killing jews. that doesnt excuse israel for certain actions and things theyve done during the war, but it does set a certain tone for how it is forced to deal with its neighbors. the naiivety of many on the american left when it comes to hamas and iran reminds me of their naiivety surrounding their embrace of communism in the 50s and 60s. anything that is anti-western is good. again, people being horrified by israeli tactics is understandable and not "anti-semitic".

  11. the protests at universities, the harassment of jewish students, the violence against jewish students, the increase in violence against jewish people all over the country, especially in large cities. swastikas painted in new york and other places. there were violent attacks last week against jewish people in new york again outside a synagogue. there are security details in chicago assigned to synagogues up here by me. multiple jewish people have been shot walking down the street in chicago over the past few years. there has been a huge uptick in anti-semitic violence in major cities. yes, the far right is always against jews (see tucker carlson and that nutty band of ignorant ****s), but now you've seen it in liberal areas as well. the human rights commissioner for chicago recently resigned because mayor johnson insisted that she amend her report on anti-semitism in the city. the report cited the huge upsurge in violence and threats against jews in the city, but johnson refused to release it unless it was changed to focus on other minorities. the equivalent of making "black lives matter" into "all lives matter" so the report could be diluted and it wouldnt upset his far left supporters on city council like sigcho-lopez or rossana rodriguez. the anti-israeli art exhibit at the chicago city museum. the attacks on the two israeli students at depaul. again, protesting israeli military actions in the middle east is one thing - everyone is entitled to their opinion on the war. but its spilled over into a huge surge in violence in urban areas, fed largely by online agitators and the hysterical and over-the-top way we present news on social media now. people are taking out their feelings about israel on jewish citizens. its akin to people assaulting asians after covid, but on a much much larger scale. we have 3000 years of history telling us how people treat jews differently.

  12. MAHA means culling the weak from the American society by allowing them to die from preventable diseases. Survival of the fittest. Meanwhile, MAGA means total discrimination and keeping the poor hungry. Eliminate the elderly, who soak up too many resources and are too expensive to support. And remove any foreign speaking people from our country unless they are wealthy enough to pay their own way.

  15. This team is missing a super strong, all nba level on-ball defender. They’d be really tough to beat if they had someone like that to play 33 minutes including most of the 4th. I know those guys are hard to find but it would make such a difference.

  25. facts not in evidence on this one. but yes, I absolutely will grant you that the kind of atrocities committed by Hamas are beyond the pale (btw they are all the exact same ones committed in at the turn of the century in the Turkish nationalist frenzy against the Armenians that I heard about from 1st hand eye-witnesses even as a child.. so you have no surprises for me on that front.).There are some uniquely grotesque and evil ideologies/mindsets that come out the ME that are absolutely hard to fathom. I will even grant you the old saw about "two wrongs don't make a right" goes pretty much out the window in war. But what I will stand on is that States with more power have more responsibility and Israel is trying hard to fail on that score. The attitude that populations are grass that needs to be periodically 'mowed' with high explosive in perpetuity is a pretty terrible mindset also.

  26. My grandfather, who came to this country in flight from genocide, would always get impatient at his fellow emigres when they would talk old homeland grievances, he would say "You are an American now. You came here to leave all that behind!" When the old world grievances of emigres become issues in US politics it never helps America, whether it's Cuba, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, whatever.

  41. So on the ESPN Tiger site right now, Buster has an interview with Boras. So what Boras says is that the deal here is that they did not use an arthroscope on Skubal, they used a new micro device (come kind of fiber optic micro canula) that isn't much larger than a hypodermic needle. That is why they are looking for less than 'std' return possibility. The story is the new even-less-invasive-than-a-'scope treatment tech provides a possibility for faster recovery.

  43. No, "being unhinged" and "knowing what you're doing" are not mutually exclusive by necessity. "Unhinged" typically means acting wildly, unpredictably, or outside social norms, e.g., impulsive rants, bold risks, or chaotic energy. "Knowing what you're doing" implies competence, awareness, and deliberate control over your actions. Trump exhibits both. You're going to focus on the "competence" part. Trump is not anything like competent when it comes to managing the economy, for example. A president absolutely should be competent when it comes to managing the economy. On that, we can agree. The breakdown occurs when we contemplate the difference between "should be" and "is". I would counter that managing the economy is not even his goal. Trump does not care about the economy. He cares about his own aggrandizement, control of others, and personal enrichment. He is very competent when it comes achieving those goals, and the economy is merely a tool in the service of those goals. This line of logic may enrage you. Certainly defensible. I don't like it, either. But just because he is incompetent in something that is traditionally important for presidents but that he cares hardly a whit about, it does not follow that he must by definition be incompetent in everything else, and in every way imaginable. Trump is unhinged. Trump also knows exactly what he is doing. It's simply bad luck that that which he knows exactly what he's doing is in an area that doesn't help the American people, or the rest of the world.
