Get ready. Numbers out showing wholesale prices up 6%. This is what happens when a criminal operation is put in the White House led by a lifelong conman that’s built an empire on fraud. “Starting on Day One, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring the prices down on all goods.” - 8/9/24 at Bozeman, MT rally “Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down and we will make America affordable again.” “We’re going to get your energy prices down. We’re going to get your energy prices down by 50%.” - both at an 8/17/24 Wilkes-Barre, PA rally. “Energy is going to bring us back up. That means we’re going down and getting gasoline below $2 a gallon, bring down the price of everything from electricity rates to groceries, airfares, and housing costs.” - 9/5/24 Economic Club of New York Of course, I could go the same with the Epstein files, but instead this Administration chooses a criminal cover-up in a situation where Trump’s name is mentioned at this point 38,000 times. This is what happens when you elect a person who has been a con man his entire life.5 points

My niece graduates from law school this weekend. That means I'm watching game 6 in a hotel. My girlfriend is taking bets with other family members on us getting kicked out when I yell at the TV.2 points

This season is reminding me of 2008 in terms of what a letdown that season was.2 points

Riley knocks them both in. 2-0. hopefully it's a better 2-0 than last night's was.1 point

It could be argued it's not a lie at all, because it is not a salary that he is taking.1 point

But he isn’t “taking a salary” Probably another lie the Right is telling the American populace1 point

Trump Sr and DJT were both actively involved in Redlining. Refusing to sell to people of color. If they did they’d jack up the prices.1 point

You got what I was saying. Whoever they choose as the goalie of the future, we won’t know the results for a number of years. I think it’s probably a good idea to give one of the kids a legit shot next year.1 point

I'm not sure what you mean, that Gibson might not be good next season? Obviously that's always a risk with goalies, he's probably still easier to predict than two rookies. My point in mentioning he was good this year is that some might want to hope for that again but I immediately said I want to trade him. My point in mentioning the Habs goalies was that it can work in your favor, not saying it is guaranteed though. I'm struggling to parse out your point I guess lol Edit: Oh god I think I'm being big dumb and you mean what the rookies would show next season wouldn't predict the future maybe? I'm overtired! If so then I'm not sure anyone would argue that goalies are stable season to season, still gives you more informed info than not playing them in the NHL I would imagine? Maybe I need to eat some lunch to jog my brain haha1 point

Tony Brothers is the crew chief tonight. Pistons are 4-3 this season in games Brothers has reffed.1 point

The more I actually sit and think about it, the more I’m a lot more understanding of Chris Illitch. He’s shown that he will spend—although it’s not as often as we want him to as fans….but look at it from the other side. Could he spend half a billion to lock up Skubal for the next 8-10 years? Sure….but the outlook on the team/org as a whole doesn’t support that. We have 2 guys on our offense that are complete players: McGonigle and Dingler. Maybe you could throw Torres in there if he can get fully healthy. Tork- occasional HR power in between looking lost and overmatched at the plate. Gets hot for a short stretch every 5-6 weeks to make it seem like he’s turned a corner when he really hasn’t. Riley- Best overall offensively weapon, but an absolute wet noodle of an arm. Is 25 and always needs days off in the field. Doesn’t run well for some reason. Carpenter- Sells out for power, doesn’t walk enough and can’t hit lefties much at all Keith- Borderline unplayable on defense at any position. Power has regressed sharply. Javy- Still swings at the low and away slider most of the time. Doesn’t walk, doesn’t hit for much power anymore. Meadows- Hasn’t shown he can hit with any consistency and can’t stay healthy—even though that’s not currently his fault this time, it still matters. Vierling- A 4th outfielder on a good team Jones- Can only hit lefties (allegedly) and is unplayable on defense McKinstry- Should be the 26th man on a good team, but we start him all the time because of platoon and defensive deficiencies with other players Rogers- Can’t hit. Perez- Below average defensively—and only really plays RF. Very inconsistent offensively. Then you’ve got the pitchers: Mize, Olson, SGL can’t make it half a season without ending up on the DL for extensive stints. Melton hopefully will come back strong, but it’s an unknown until then. Jobe is a complete unknown as far as what he will be when he’s back. Flaherty is completely washed. Framber was an excellent signing, but hasn’t paid off much at all to this point—and we have all of the pressure of carrying the pitching staff on him now. Keider Montero is one of the only players in the entire organization who is actually meeting and exceeding expectations. Vest, Holton, Hurter, Finnegan are all solid but unspectacular bullpen pieces Hanifee, Anderson, and Brieske are all inconsistent at best Jansen is at the finish line of his career and it’s showing and all the other arms shouldn’t arent good enough to be on major league rosters for any length of time or used in any important situations. Whats there to invest 400-500 million on for one or two players when that’s clearly not going to put us over the top until we clear the organization out from all the one-dimensional every day players?1 point

I had to listen to Saturday's fourth quarter on the radio in the car making my way to our niece's grad party. Listening to Mahorn go ballistic about everything was pretty entertaining in a way. I forgot how much a potential deep run with the Pistons can be impacted by the spring graduations and my own work. Now, I have to mix in the changing TV venues on top of that. I'm going to have issues with game #6 as well for parts of it. Probably will be listening to a lot of it on the radio as well.1 point

Surprisingly, that is true about the pitching, but I was expecting them to improve significantly with Valdez and a full year of Melton. I am not disappointed with the hitting. I was not expecting it to be a strength and it's pretty much what I thought it would be. Their fielding has been a disaster and I think the impact of injuries to Meadows and Baez have been understated.1 point

💯 There is no urgency here because we are just so decimated right now. Yes, I know it's early and we should recenter our focus on winning now, but that's just it: it's early, and we have a weak division. We do have a good deal of time yet, so rushing guys back, or rushing guys up, smacks of the kind of desperation that's not warranted just yet.1 point

He wasn’t paying taxes then. His father and possibly was. Trump was not aware of such things. And RedLining was a real thing then. Gotta keep the undesirables out of the neighborhood and the women barefoot and pregnant1 point

Paying attention is exactly the point. You're reading a governing trend from the noisiest data points: aldermanic social media posts, a primary race in a single Illinois district, candidates distancing themselves from AIPAC. That's real political pressure, and I don't dismiss it. But political pressure from a vocal constituency is not the same as ideological capture of a governing party. The Democratic mainstream haven't abandoned Israel, but while they have complicated their relationship with the current Israeli government, that's not the same thing, and besides, it's what Israeli opposition figures and mass protest movements have done as well. The distinction that actually matters is the one between policy-driven anti-Israel sentiment (even when it's overwrought, and even when it edges into troubling territory) and the kind of ethno-nationalist, eliminationist antisemitism that has historically seized control of parties and governments, and is doing so again on the right in real time. The former is a problem that bears close watching. The latter is the thing that has historically gotten people killed. Conflating them because they share some surface rhetoric muddles, not sharpens, the analysis, and lets the genuinely dangerous version off the hook by treating it as merely one data point along a bipartisan spectrum.1 point

I agree it wasn't a big deal. It's not like it was the Obama family or something.1 point

His bigger obstacle will be the league not letting him move. After the Seattle debacle they are not letting another team leave a decent size market with good fan support over a stadium issue.1 point

Nah no need to expose him to this mess and he's not ready. Just put McStinkey in RF and Lee st second base for now. At the minimum we can give Lee a long look for evaluation and shore up the outfield defense. Plus this might be the end for MStinky as well but he can catch, throw and run.1 point

and part of this one of those strange ironies where because one side is totally out of reach of Western influence and communication, the intransigence of the side you think you should have some influence on, or that at least you believe could do better, ends up becomes the primary focus of frustration sort of by default. In the US a lot of anti-Israel energy on the left is young people, who know little or no history, but have the finely tuned sense of injustice of the young. In the main they are not culturally, racially, religiously anti-semitic in any traditional sense of the word (those parts are more likely on the right) but they have bought into the narrative that Israel's national conduct is no longer the lesser of the two evils in the region. I don't think that many people yet believe that, but if Israel doesn't start helping it's own cause, more will. Also the 'demonization' of Aipac on the left also ties into their support to Trump and/or Trump aligned candidates.1 point

Well, at least they are proving to be a balanced team: Failing in all three phases of the game.1 point

The Tigers have one of the nicest home uniforms in the league. The olde English D, for my money, is the best logo in all sports...not like the atrocity of the hat that goes with the trash motown jerseys. The old road uniforms were really nice too and I don't even mind the newer ones with the script.1 point

Philly and Embiid could be a teachable moment for the Pistons with Duren. They felt they had to extend him even with his injury problems instead of losing him for nothing. Now they are locked into a very old team with an injury plagued star who will rarely play 50% of the games and very little resources to improve the team. Bad contracts are franchise killers. Sometimes it's just better to let a guy go even if it's for nothing.1 point

I think the City Connect concept is unnecessary, but whatever, I guess I'm used to it. maybe it would be cooler if they weren't used as frequently (talking about any team, not just the Tigers). I've also gotten used to other teams having the "regular" alternates with colored jerseys and such, but man, I really don't like it on the Tigers. it's just so jarring to see the dark blue or bright orange, and I keep thinking it's the other team's unis, especially if it's in Detroit and the actual other team is wearing standard road greys.1 point

Bolton with an asinine Editorial in WaPo complaining that Trump 'just needs to open the Strait.' I'm sure he would have by now if he could have, but he can't, and that's the fact on the ground. I don't know where these neo-cons get their fantasy ideas about the ease with which the US Military can just conjure their international management wet dreams into existence.1 point

You don't need to start Reed. But he has earned minutes in the rotation for sure, and sitting the first half again is not an option. I would have a quick hook for Duren though. If Duren struggles in the 1st quarter then Reed gets the bulk of the minutes and possibly starts the 2nd half.1 point

Melton and Mize are injured. Valdez is having his usual meltdown games at the wrong time. Flaherty can't get the ball over the plate. I don't know why. They didn't win the reliever lottery this year. Their defense is bad and the the injuries to Baez and Meadows have made it worse.0 points
